Wow, this place is crazy. My mum and I went in looking for a halal place. When we asked if the food was halal, the guy initially said no, then came back and said yes. It was incredibly confusing and unprofessional. He rushed us to make a decision before we even sat down, claiming he'd explain what was halal. It was a long day, and we were tired, so we stayed despite the warning signs. Big mistake. The decor is mediocre, not terrible, but they still had Christmas lights up in the middle of summer, which felt odd. We ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill (£15) and Chicken Madras. After waiting 50 minutes, we asked about our order and were told it was taking time because it was being made 'FRESH!' However, the restaurant was empty, and we saw takeaway orders going out promptly. When the food finally arrived, the Chicken Madras and a bowl that looked like the same sauce were lukewarm. Clearly, it wasn’t freshly made as claimed. It looked and tasted like microwaved food. The Chicken Madras was more like a soupy orange tomato puree with overcooked chicken. It was beyond awful, freezing cold, and lacked any usual garnishes. The servers even touched the plates and food, claiming they were hot when they were not. The platter was the stingiest I've ever seen: the world's thinnest kebab, two pieces of chicken tikka, a halved chicken leg, and two tasteless lamb pieces, all for £15! It was basically boiled meat with red food coloring and barely any onion or pepper. My mum ate the chicken leg, which was pink inside. PINK! Serving undercooked chicken is unacceptable. When we complained, they rushed to check if it was true, showing no remorse or apology, just excuses about their food quality. The naan we received was cold and soft, and when we questioned it, they said they make it this way for white customers, implying a discriminatory service practice. We also noticed we were given a takeaway menu while other diners got proper ones and were served warm plastic Coke bottles, unlike the glass bottles behind the counter. The whole experience was awful, from the cold, poorly prepared food to the lack of proper customer service and possible discriminatory practices. Despite all this, we still paid, which was shocking given the quality and service. This place is a joke and should not be in business. They clearly prioritize certain customers over others and serve subpar food. Avoid at all costs!

Here for the wife's Big Birthday Bash. Das and staff did not disappoint! Firstly, Das & Muhammad helped me set up balloons, photos and banners before the guests arrived. Everything looked immaculate! Despite having a large number of guests to cater for, all drinks, popadoms, starters, mains and sides arrived on time, hot and tasty. Some had never tried Indian food before, so some new converts in the making! All feedback received was very positive and is testament to the care and attention to detail, this restaurant puts into every meal! I made a reservation turned up to be told it will be a while I then asked again after waiting about 10 minutes to be pointed at a table and told it’s over there. We then waited some time to be asked had we ordered. We gave our order and asked for two drinks which never appeared. The food came after a long wait we again asked for the drinks and had to ask for glasses to drink out of. Whilst eating our dinner the female manager (I take her to be) started to lift empty dishes reached across my husband whilst eating without an excuse me or anything. This is totally rude and the height of bad manners. Not once whilst dining were we asked if everything was ok or could we get you anything else. It seemed to be if the proprietors new you then you were looked after but as we were not known the didn’t care. Very bad customer service!!! I myself have worked in an Indian restaurant for several years and would never dream of not looking after my customers should I have never seen them or if they were regulars. Always would I have engaged with each table making sure all clientele were treated the same. Think some lessons would need to be learned at star of India

Just returned from the star of India have to say the food didn’t disappoint but I feel there was a mix up with our booking as they seemed to have difficulty finding our name on their list. Out table was for 7 pm . They did admit they were short staffed but our food arrived promptly and didn’t disappoint. At 8.10 pm our bill was set on the table without us asking and we hadn’t finished our wine then five min later we’re asked if we wanted to pay by card weren’t asked if we wanted another drink tea or coffee etc. When I asked the lady if there had been a mix up with their booking her reply was we don’t want to send people home. I know things have been difficult for restaurants but I feel we should have had our table for the usual hour and a half time slot or at least admit there had been a mix up.

We are regular diners at this restaurant, and since they re opened this was our first visit. Expecting the usual welcoming atmosphere we were soon disappointed.no Placed back to back at a cramped table with no social distancing despite plenty of well spaced tables that were free. It then took 50 minutes for our main course to arrive, in the interim the rather blunt waitress kept trying to push further drinks orders on us. The food when it eventually arrived was to the usual good standard but strangely the same brash waitress appeared whilst we were still enjoying our dishes and asked did we want it boxed to go. It was obvious we were still eating and seemed an extremely odd request. We felt very unconfortable almost as if we were intruding somehow, and we left as soon as we had finished. The atmosphere was poor and no music in background as normal. Not sure what the management are thinking but they need to get the place back to the warm inviting restaurant it was rather than a place where you. Are made to feel like you are an inconvenience!

Went on Saturday night and the place was bunged! Great atmosphere and buzz about the place. Obviously, word about the recent awards have gotten out! Luckily we had booked!! Das, Nayana and their team of workers were buzzing around the place making sure everyone was being attended to. Despite the busyness of the place, food arrived on time without fuss. To start, we had popadoms with a tasty supply of chutneys to compliment. I had the nicely spiced Salted and Chilli Chicken starter, (very addictive), with Chicken Tikka Naganji Main course. If your a fan of spicey food, Naganji is made using Bangladeshi naga chillis and has a slightly sour flavour, (not sweet), which worked well for my palate. It was a change from my usual Garlic Chicken Tikka Chilli Balti, which I find very hard to change from, as it is so nice here! My wife tried the Peri Peri Chicken for main and loved the flavour of the sauce which she described as reminding her of pickled onion crisps lol. I tried her sauce and weirdly she was right....but in a good way!! Good quality house wines, (red and white), made for a great Saturday night. Couldn't not review this place after such great food and atmosphere. Watch out Zio's Das is coming to get you lol!!

Paid a midweek visit with my wife recently for a sit in meal. This was the first time we had dined in as we normally just get a takeaway. Having had some mixed experiences regarding takeaways I have to say the sit in experience is a vast improvement. The food is delicious and no doubt freshly prepared, portions seem plentiful containing much more meat than takeaways, staff are attentive & friendly and the place itself is clean with a tasteful decor. The only minor gripes I have are that even though the restaurant was empty my wife & I were still shunted off to a tiny table in the corner which had very little space on it(we both had seperate drinks & a bottle of water for the table with glasses, starters, mains with sides, poppadoms & naan bread so felt a bit cramped + the table wobbled a bit. Service also seemed a bit slow & muddled at times but the thing that really annoyed me was paying the bill. Having waited an eternity to receive my bill I made my way to the counter to pay with my card only to be abruptly told "cash" by a member of staff. I thought nothing off it & paid with cash anyway but after I left my wife pointed out to me that other people had been coming in & paying for their collections with cards so why was the chip&pin; reader suddenly not accessible for sit-in customers? Was this just a cynical ploy to maximise their tips? I don't know but it kind of soured the experience for me. The food was good though & reasonably priced so I can't fault that side and I would return again.

Have to say, have never had a bad meal here. Normally go for the Salted Chilli Chicken starter, which never disappoints - nicely spiced and good portions. Love their Chicken Tikka Garlic Chilli Balti. Lovely roasted garlic flavour with a nicely spiced and full flavoured balti. Plenty of chicken too. My wife is a big fan of the Chicken Chilli Balti and usually goes for the 3 syn version, to match up with her Slimming World diet. There's always enough chillis too in the chilli dishes, one of my bugbears with other Indian restaurants, where it can be a case of spot the chilli! Recommend the Tandoori Roti Bread, (unleavened and made from wheat flour), too, as a healthier alternative to Naan Bread. Draught Cobra on tap and decent house wine complete a good night.

After 65 mins waiting i had to complain and was eventually served. On arriving home I found the vegetarian dish i had ordered and paid for was not included so 1 of my party had no food to eat, also I ordered 2 peshwari and 2 garlic nan and I got 4 peshwari. Therefore 2 others who ordered the garlic nan had no bread. Also I ordered popadoms and dips for 6 and i got plenty of popadoms but only 2 tiny dips that would have only sufficed 1 person.

Myself and my girlfriend got food out of here tonight. Fair play to them, they delivered to us and we're like 7 miles away or something! The food was very tasty.. Pro's- really great curries, it was hot, reasonably priced, they gave lots of nice dips, they delivered here. Cons- chips weren't amazing and a bit soggy, 1 broken popodum in bag, gave wrong starter (still good though).

We have been here a good few times and the food never disappoints always good plus has a nice atmosphere for couples one end of restaurant and groups on other it which is a great seating arrangement,But sadly have to say they don't seem to be able to cope when they get busy this has been the second occasion in a row we where left sitting waiting on our table even though we had booked and our table was empty then were sitting another good while before asked for drinks when we finally got our table sadly this has put us off a real pity cause as I say foods great.

Arrived for the specials night £11.95 per head which included poppadum, starter, main course rice and one nan bread between two. Great until you read the menu some of the starters have an extra charge of £2.50 and on the second page of the menu...

Couldn't fault either the service or the super food. We arrived with no booking but got a table within just a few minutes wait.

A breath of fresh air from the average restaurant. Food and service were outstanding. It is small enough so that you get personal attention and the food is freshly prepared. .

Star of India is always my first choice Indian restaurant. The owners are really friendly and the service is great. Have been for both sit-in and take away and the quality of food is excellent. The menu has a lot of variety too. Has a personal feel to it and the owners always remember us and have created a comfortable laid back atmosphere. Reasonably priced too!

We never write reviews to tripadvisor unless we intend to award a rating of four or five - and it was seeing someone else's surprisingly negative review that prompted us to submit this one.'Star of India' is our first-choice Indian takeaway because the service DOES seem good to us, the food is delicious, and the advice offered is honest and helpful. For example, I mentioned one evening that I would have enjoyed one of the items on the menu if it had been less sweet, and the person taking my order went into the kitchen, enquired, and came back with advice as to how to ask for that dish in future. We like to experiment, but the boss is quite prepared to warn us that some dish or other might be similar to something we'd ordered before but not enjoyed so much. It's always good to deal with people who are more interested in selling something you'll enjoy than just selling you something.Another important point in favour of this place is that quality is pretty consistent.

Go here regularly for a mixed kebab with king nan , a belly buster not for the faint hearted, lovely taste, good price and very satisfying.

Once again this restaurant was a joy to visit. I can't understand the negative reviews this place gets. It's family run and although quiet, the food is great. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We attended with an assistant dog and were made welcome. Just love this restaurant

Lovely starters of prawns and samosa. Then dopiaza, which was spicy and tasty, butter chicken and saag. These were all excellent. Pilau rice was extra and quite expensive but very tasty. Excellent, knowledgeable service. Played pop music rather than Indian music which impacted the ambience a bit. Still, a lovely meal and evening out. £110 for four including one round of drinks (two half-beers and two soft drinks).
