While looking for an Indian restaurant we came across this place, and after reading the positive reviews we decided to give it a try, and we were NOT disappointed. Beautiful atmosphere. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Stunning food. Couldn't ask for anything better. Would love to return.

Eat here several times a week, lovely freshly cooked food and the staff are lovely. So friendly and helpful to everyone. Special occasions are the best ever if anyone wants to celebrate a Birthday.

We enjoyed our food here this evening, the madras was quite tame in heat to what we are used to but on the whole an enjoyable meal.

We haven’t visited Helmsley spice for about 7yrs so decided to give it a go it’ll be longer than 7yrs before we dine here again - the place in non authentic no table cloths no little tea lights nothing as you would normally get at an Indian restaurant- the place is cold and dismal looking an the tables are so close together you get the sardine in a tin feeling ! The food itself isn’t much better lamb chop starter came which was absolutely covered in partially raw onion an I think peppers I had to dig the 2 very scrawny chops out which were again covered in a thick red marinade what are they trying to hard I asked myself ? The main I ordered was meant to be mild an sweet it was so spicy I couldn’t eat it my lips were burning off an I don’t mind ‘ abit ‘ of spice it’s what Indian foods about but this was just too hot - the keema rice tasted of grease an mutton - an then the cauliflower bahji well if you like crunching on soil go ahead an order yourself one ;) oh an the little waiter should remember his smile before going to work ;)

This place used to be amazing. Unfortunately it is now a run down poor excuse of its former self. We pulled into the car park almost sure that the restaurant had closed down. The place looked in a state of disrepair with paint falling of the walls and window frames. We were just about to leave when a member of staff came out and assured us they were open. Dubiously we went in, remembering how great it used to be. Inside, the decor was not much better, it was very tired, in need of some TLC and investment but as we were the only people in the place I guess that investment won't be coming any time soon as this place cannot possibly be trading very much longer unless it survives on take-away trade. Upon taking our drinks order, we were disappointed to be informed that they had no beer (draught or bottled) so had soft drinks. Unfortunately the disappointment didn't stop there as when our main courses came out, one was inedible and the other extremely salty to the point where it was only just edible. To be fair, the staff did offer to replace both of our meals, but we felt that the damage was done and just wanted to leave. I would strongly recommend you avoid this place, it is certainly not what it used to be. Such a huge shame.

Had a great meal with amazing food and very friendly staff. The only thing that needs to be improved is the ladies bathroom, taps barely work and very outdated.

Been using Malton Spice for takeaway and eat in for the past 8/9 years and it has always been inconsistent to say the least. Sometimes the food is 4 or 5 stars, other times it can be 1 or 2. Not my usual choice but I recently ordered the chicken tikka masala and was very disappointed, it was too sweet and an artificial red colour, very bland and unauthentic. The garlic naan was dry and chewy. The problem in my opinion is that Malton Spice has for some time been the only Indian restaurant/takeaway in the whole of Malton and Norton. So they have no competition. There are several Chinese places, several pizza/kebab houses and fish n chip shops. The town needs another 1 or 2 Indian curry restaurant/takeaways.
