The best restaurants serving Greek food in England

Really nice local cafe with friendly staff. Excellent homemade soup, tasty food & decent portion sizes for the price. I would recommend the spicy rice & the bakewel tart.

In a tiny kitchen the chef conjured up a bowl of delicious bean and vegetable soup. It was a generous portion served with chunks of toasted sourdough bread and piping hot. Just what we needed after the chill of a November day. The little restaurant is in a quirky indoor market opposite the Turner gallery on the sea front.

This was a fairly new restaurant in our area so we left it for about 6 weeks before booking a table just so that they can iron out any wrinkles and get themselves established. A Greek restaurant is always of interest to us and we couldn’t wait to eat there, we called them around mid June 2023 on a Friday eve to check for availability for a couples table… No answer, we kept trying but nobody answered so we went elsewhere. This happened again the following week so I popped my head in on a Saturday afternoon to see if they were open to which a staff member said that they were. We tried again in mid July and got a Friday Eve table for 8pm. I took these pics at 8.45pm on a Friday evening.. it was empty apart from another couple, most of the wine was not available from the wine list and the food was well below average for Greek Cuisine.

There was a party of 15 of us on a Sunday afternoon for a family birthday get together. Firstly the staff … they were so lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. We all had different food … some had Greek, some Italian and some roast dinners - every single piece of food was delicious. The only thing that let it down was the dessert selection both in choice and price but I’m sure when it’s rebranded etc they will address desserts.

De la red tomamos moussaka, pulpo y lubina, todos ellos muy sabrosos! También el diseño interior muy bueno!

Mi pareja y yo estábamos en el barrio en busca de un lugar nocturno que sirve comida. El griego clásico no decepcionó, comida sabrosa, porción decente y personal amable.

I came to this place once I called a hidden gem of Greek meals. Sticky tables, rare smiles, however that’s the people. I order chicken wrap, pork main and hallumi salad. Dressing on the salad was terrible, chicken wrap cold, pork cold and undercooked. It was edible, but I don’t think that I will recommend this place to any of my friends.

BIG MALAKAS. Ordered on Uber eats Sunday, won’t be ordering again. We’ve had big malakas a few times now, first time at a friends wedding and it was great, second time it wasn’t amazing but still good! But this time round it was inedible, such a shame cause it’s the only place that does vegan kebabs in this area that I don’t have to make myself. The order took an hour and half to be made, was cold when it got here. Which were more than happy to hear food up, that’s fine, so we did, and when we unboxed it, the whole thing was dripping in grease, now we are aware of you order a kebab, and chips it’s going to be cooked in grease- but the now cold bread, was soggy with oil. Really off putting, we headed it up anyway, took a bite and it was horrendous. The thing was dripping, from the paper, out of the kebab….into the bowl, full of oil. I’ve never seen anything like it. One bit of tomato, like 4 chips in the kebab, no sauce, and half cooked “meat”. we ordered a side of chips on the side and there was less than a hand full of chips in the bags. For £36 you’d think you could get a properly cooked kebab? To add to that ….before I decided to do a review, I messaged them directly to sort it out and just give them feed back. They saw my message instantly after it was sent, ignored me. Hours later I sent another just to say I’m happy to wait if they were busy but i do want to get this sorted. And again, saw the message and ignored me. So unfortunately I’ve had to take this approach. I wouldn’t bother ordering from this place, disapointing. I would have been forgiving if it was just a just a slip up and they’d replied but just to ignore my messages is abit rude, luckily I took Photos and have sent Uber the photos and they’ve given me a full refund because of how bad the order was! Also wierd name….. translated back to English as “big w*nker” …… very strange.

¡Esta es una joya de una panadería! Hemos probado los pasteles (fresa y chocolate) estaba absolutamente delicioso. Hemos probado muchos postres y galletas más pequeños y ellos también son los que nos hacen volver a menudo. También pensamos que su café es fantástico. La única desventaja son sus bocadillos, ya que encontramos que las baguettes utilizadas son un poco pastosas, pero hay spanakopita son un buen sustituto de todos modos! ¡Qué bueno tener una gran panadería en nuestra zona!

Mi esposa y yo tuvimos el plato de mezze con un lado de papas fritas Halumi y todo fue fantástico. Somos un gran fan de esta cocina y esto fue de los mejores que hemos probado, especialmente las souvlaki y patatas fritas Halumi. El servicio fue atento y amable sin ser demasiado. Los cócteles tenían buena relación calidad-precio. Gastamos mucho menos de lo que lo haríamos en nuestro local y ambos acordamos que kafeneon era mejor en promedio. Sin duda volvería de nuevo si estuviéramos de vuelta en Newcastle

Ali (with the braids) was extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The whole venue gave great service and the food was outstanding. Will deffo be back!

i will most definitely be leaving reviews on multiple sites about this local gem! if you enjoy Greek food, please get yourself here! i dined with my family on 19 April for a birthday celebration. between the 5 of us, we ordered the fish and the meat platters. superb quality and fresh ingredients. i had also mentioned to one of the manager's about the birthday and they accommodated to that excellently! the celebrant was definitely surprised! recommend for anybody - and they can accommodate young children. thanks Andy's! your service will be remembered for a future visit.

1 juice was missing, I had just 1… Also, don’t put olive with seed inside a wrap, it’s just a bad surprise for teeth 😓 The food was fresh & tasty. Gonna to order again (without olive)
