Superb food at a decent price, wait staff were attentive and had personality, would recommend,

Okay so the food and service was good and efficient BUT and this is a personal one concerning our main course, we had the meze platter: having had this numerous times in Cyprus, Greece and the UK this is the first time it has all come at once on the same plate, thus you don't want to take your time over the food for fear of parts of it going cold, more difficult to share between two of us being all on the one plate. Can understand why the chef / restaurant does this as I believe the kitchen was on a different floor so it would be easier / safer / better for the staff for food in one go. Don't get me wrong the food was tasty but it was down to the presentation, this is one of those marmite moments for us.

A lovely independent Greek restaurant in Central Newcastle. We had a mid afternoon late lunch on a Sunday. The two course deal was great value and they certainly did not skimp on portion sizes! Great friendly service and a good buzzy atmosphere! I'd definitely go back!

Found this lovey little place on an overnight stay, litlle did we know there was a tea time special available. The staff were fantastic and helpful, we hadnt booked so didnt expect to be seated as it was busy. We did get a seat ordered drinks and food and staff are a credit to the resturant. The food was fresh tasty and plentiful, and I want to return to try something else. It was the nicest food Id had in a long time, thank you x

Lovely restaurant, my starter of Honey Halloumi bites was delicious, I was a little disappointed with the lamb burger and wish I'd gone for the Gyros because it was a bit bland and there was way too much salad, the churros were fantastic and the whole meal was really good value.

We had the best meal here. The staff were lovely, especially the guy at the till! Our food was delicious, and the portions were very generous! We also loved the cocktails. We will definitely be back soon!

Another meal at the fabulous Kafeneon , food never disappoints especially the meze sharing platter . Always loved this place. Went on Saturday and it was obviously a busy service and our table wasn’t ready (the last booking were nursing their last glasses of wine) but the staff were so apologetic about it and worked to get us another table as soon as they could. You could see they genuinely cared about the customer service. You can’t always control everything and things will sometimes go wrong but you can control how you handle that and that was the difference here.

As far a Greek food is concerned in Newcastle this is one of the best places to get food. It's fresh and authentic. The cost of the food is reasonable too. If your looking for a place to take a date or family. You really cannot go wrong.

Called today for lunch. Staff were very welcoming and could not do enough for you. Lovely service. Hubby had the two course lunch special stifado and dips to start which was very nice. I opted for the chicken giros and chips it was quite salty and the chips were quite cold. Will choose something else if I went again.

In Newcastle? After some traditional Greek cuisine? If so this is the only place to go. Nipped in for lunch. Had the spicy brufetta which was light, tasty and refreshing. I would also highly recommend the cheese and honey. Opted for the beef stifado for mains. This was truly amazing. Beef was so tender, and lots of it wrapped into a tasteful sauce. Accompanied with rice, bread and salad. A feast and so delicious. Service matched the food. Great. Attentive and friendly. Mythos beer to wash it down. Came in at just over £20 so great value. Highly recommended. Don't walk by without entering. Five stars.

Amazing food, staff, and prices. We didn't book and came in at 5:30pm hoping to get some grub! We were welcomed in, and everyone was lovely. My partner said his starter was possibly one of the best he's ever had.

It’s been a few years since I have been to this restaurant. Decided to take advantage of restaurant week in Newcastle. Decided to give Kafeneon a go and we weren’t disappointed. The service was great and the food was really tasty. Could not fault the place.

Went for restaurant week but have been several times outside of that - truly one of my favourite places! Cheap food, friendly staff and great drinks plus you always know the music will be good. Always clean and well presented, we never feel rushed or unattended. Can't wait to go again!

We had our works Christmas get together here and the food was perfect and the service was also perfect.

This Greek style restaurant exudes warmth and welcome. Classic Greek dishes exquisitively and lovingly prepared to satisfy the English palate. With an extensive imaginative cocktail menus to boot in cosy warm surroundings. A visit to Newcastle should always include a visit here for lunch or dinner.

Hi, Visited here on a busy Sunday Afternoon party of two called on spec and was lucky enough to get table what more can I say but absolutely excellent the staff were super (especially the manager) the restaurant has a lovely ambiance the food and drinks were superb and really good value we left very full and very happy we will definitely be back.

Delicious food!! We nipped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, seated straight away and had lovely service. Atmosphere was nice and staff were lovely. Food was amazing!!! We ordered the chicken gyros and the Greek club pitta toastie. Huge portions and was so tasty. Super cheap too! Highly reccomend

I’ve been here loads of times and can’t fault the food or service. Was part of a group of 15 for a late lunch. Service was great we all got our food at the same time. Not rushed and was very relaxed. The lunchtime deal is great value. £15.95 for a starter and main. I had Saganaki and chicken souvlaki. This comes with chips though I opted for none. One thing to note is accessibility. There is not much room to manoeuvre upstairs and there are steps to the toilet so bear this in mind if you have these needs

We turned up as a family of five after a graduation ceremony without a booking, and they were incredibly graceful in accommodating us. We had the floor to ourselves, the service was outstanding and the food was so good even the fussy toddler enjoyed it! I am writing this review a day later and still thinking about the it... we'll be back!

I have been coming here as a visitor to Newcastle for 10 years. Not very often. But, over that 10 years this Greek restaurant has remained a place I would always trust. The food is great. The service is efficient and friendly. The value is excellent. I used to live in Germany where there was a local Greek restaurant. And Kafeneon reminds me of that. I know what I will order. I know I will like it. I know I will be welcome. I know I will leave happy. I know I will return. What more can I ask for? Pork Souvlaki...

I went a year ago and used to be a massive fan of their gyros and fresh handcut chips, we just revisited tonight and the food has went very downhill the chicken has drastically changed to what seems like ready made frozen chicken and the chips are also now just frozen fries. The service wasn't amazing either I was asked why I left a prawn and once our orders were taken we were pretty much ignored won't be returning.

I highly recommend the food in this place, high quality and reasonable price. Staff were nice and welcoming too.

Been coming to Cafe Neon for a few year's now and the food and service is outstanding.

We went here on a Tuesday night for pre theatre food. It was lovely and cosy, staff very attentive and food very reasonable. Generous portions. I had the halloumi and tsatsviki starter, followed by chicken skewers. My partner had beef stifado. Everything was delicious, would definitely return!

Stunning little restaurant, highly recommended. The staff were universally cheerful and professional. The atmosphere was good, if a little chilled, probably due to it being a Sunday lunchtime. The food was sublime, I'm a keen cook and highly critical when I eat out, but I couldn't find a single thing to mark down. Well done to the team, great success!

We had dinner here on Thursday 31st Oct 2024. This restaurant had been recommended to us, and it didn't disappoint. One of us had the 2-courses for £15.95, and the other 3 small dishes for £15. The food was very good, and the portions were much bigger than expected ... we struggled to eat it all. At these prices it was definitely value for money. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I'd definitely go back for a meal next time we're in the area.

This was my first visit to Kafeneon and I believe it has been open for some 20 years or so? I was very impressed. Very attentive staff, a good vegetarian menu, good portion sizes and the food was excellent. Very busy so therefore it's a popular place. I thoroughly recommend. I can see why it is popular and I will visit again!

Really enjoyed our meal here, was in Newcastle visiting my daughter at university and she had heard great things, we weren’t disappointed. The staff was all so friendly and fun and the food was of a high standard at reasonable prices, we benefited from a happy hour menu which we highly recommend for value! The wine also didn’t disappoint. Will definitely visit again.

The food is tip top notch, as good as you can ask for. Great value. The two waitresses serving were extremely friendly and always looking after the diners, as tasty as the food!

Super restaurant serving, in my opinion, truly authentic tasting dishes. As a British ex-resident of Athens I can say that if you’re looking to taste Greek food you won’t do better than this.

We were greeted well and shown to a table downstairs. It was very hot a humid downstairs so I asked if there was any ventilation. They kindly moved us to a ground level table that was much more pleasant. The food was delicious, very well cooked, good portions and very tasty. The whole experience was let down by the poor service. The female servers just weren’t interested at all. One in particular looked surly and as if she’d rather be anywhere else. We had barely sat down before someone was over asking for a drinks order - we had barely looked at the menu. Once she prised that out of us she asked for a food order - I had to point out we had been sat down for less than 10 seconds so we’re not ready. When they did take the food order it was not a friendly interaction, barely any acknowledgement at all. After the meal we were given dessert menus - and then just left. We had to ask to put an order in. Overall the service really spoiled the experience. All of us commented that the guy hosting was nice enough, but the rest of the servers were unfriendly, didn’t want to be there and it showed. I don’t think we would return. Which is a shame as the food was lovely. The kitchen is being let down by front of house.

I don't always give five stars but this was worth it. Excellent food, service warm, helpful and efficient, portions generous as well as delicious. We had feta, olives, chillis and spanokopita with tatziki starters, then chicken sizzler (with feta, peppers, tomatoes sauce) and moussaka. Both tasty, fresh, and very generous portions. So we didn't really need the starters, but hey, they were lovely so we managed to stuff it all in all the same! Yum. The young staff were very warm and helpful and brought us everything we needed, in spite of being very busy on Saturday night.

Very nice Greek food. Fast service and friendly staff

Visited here today for the first time in quite a long time, with my mother and cousin. My cousin and I both ordered the big fat greek gyros, and my mother ordered the lamb kleftiko. For dessert, we shared the greek orange cake and neon ice cream sundae between us. Honestly, this is the best Greek food I have had outside of Greece, I couldn't point out a single fault, and I will hopefully be back soon.

Loved this place! Booked on a recent one-off visit to Newcastle and it was the perfect place. I've rarely met a more dynamic, gregarious team of waiting staff, who made us feel really welcome. The food is fantastic (large portions too so pace yourself...) and there's a generally very nice vibe about the place. Would come back for sure!
