Simply Greek in Newcastle upon Tyne

So good we ate lunch here twice yet we’re only in Newcastle for a few days!

Good sized portions and friendly service. Most of the food was warm, not hot and 1dish was sent back as cold, came back out dish hot, food warm as if it was microwaved. Used to love this place. Not sure if they changed chefs or owners but it's not like it used to be which is a shame.

Such an amazing place with lovely staff! We have found this tavern accidentally, thanks to live Greek music played inside. Highly recommended!

Came here yesterday with my partner around 3pm, wasn't busy, had no problem getting a seat. We went for the special 2 courses £13.95, we both got hallumi with pitta bread, very small portion and tasteless, I ordered a latte, my partner a bottle of beer.. Be aware £5.50for a bottle!! He got chicken gyros, overcooked, frozen chips, looker like it had been sat out ages, the dip was nice, I got the moussaka, a congealed mess, tasteless, I didn't tasted one aubergine in there!! Small portion, again looked stale. I had to ask for a glass of water 4 times, service was awful, all young waitresses more interested in talking among themselves and their friends that came in. It did a job, that we were full when we left.. Just, but there are so many nicer options out there, also this restaurant is very cold!! I would class it more like a cafe, normal menu prices veery not cheap £14.80 forward moussaka.. I would have sent it back if I had paid the dinner price, we will not be coming back

was recently in newcastle for a wedding and spent the night before out in town. we tried a few restaurants that were all booked up and ended up in simply greek. service was pretty quick and the food was delicious. i went for the mixed grill which was pretty stacked, along with feta loaded fries. one of the few meals i've not been able to finish in my time, but still banging

Went for a birthday. Food was fantastic. Service brilliant. We will return. Well done to all the staff.

Went on Monday night. Had the special. Starters were nice. Mains brought out I had Mousakka it was like a congealed lump, inedible. My husband had Stifado, and he said it was just ok. Complained to the friendly young waiter who told the chef (owner). We didn't get an apology or anything. I've been to this restaurant a few times at its old location & it was nice. But this was awful. Won't be returning.

Delicious greek dishes to choose, nice coffee and great dessert. Service is lovely as well. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

We wanted chicken giros but were told they couldn't do them due to fires in grease however they had everything else on menu ? The food was really nice when we went to pay the bill we asked about the ne1 discount the waitress asked the manager and was told they didn't do it I said the website said they did they then changed there mind and give us discount.

Me and my fiancee was out in Newcastle for my birthday we fancied something different for dinner we saw the restaurant and decided to try it I'm so glad we did the food was absolutely fantastic so delicious out meal came with a small pot of yoghurt witch was so divine we fully enjoyed our meal the staff was so friendly and helpful making first time trying Greek food fantastic the toilets were so clean and smelt fresh we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere would definitely recommend this place 10/10 from us for sure 😊

Best restaurant in Newcastle. Every aspect is amazing.

Without a doubt The worst meal we've EVER had in Newcastle or anywhere to be honest. We were sat in the back bit in which I can only describe as being in a cheap cafe type chippy! First impressions of the miserable waitress weren't too great either and after waiting 25 minutes for our drinks we very nearly walked out. On glancing around every other table was sat with the same type of look on their face as ours that of what on earth are the staff doing? We ordered our food of dolmades and butter beans. The butter beans was merely lukewarm which put me right off. However I was hopefully for our mains. When they arrived presentation was good bit that was shortlived when I removed the lid from the moussaka pot. The smell was that of cheap mince absolutely revolting. In essence it was a full pot of the stuff and it had never been moussaka in its life! No bechamel no potato no cinnamon just a bowl of vile mince that I wouldn't feed to a dog. Lid firmly back on to contain the awful smell. Other half said mixed grill was nice. When the waitress finally came to take away our plates I told her quietly that that was THE worst meal I've ever ate she replied "sorry" and that was it. Clearly been told that before! Without a shadow of a doubt we would never return even if they paid us and a complete and utter waste of £66. Absolutely disgusting

We booked a table for a birthday celebration, we arrived in time , after 20 mins no menu or drinks where offered , so we left ,very very disappointed , would not go back again

I visited Simply Greek at their new premises at the Bigg Market (just over the road from their previous place!). Friendly staff, great prices and delicious food. The set menu is ideal for a working lunch. I went for the Pork Souvlaki and was very happy with my choice. Will be back in future.

We decided to take advantage of restaurant week in Newcastle opted for Simply Greek. Greeted at door by a young man who told us to find a seat. As we walked in a female moved towards us with the diary for bookings. She informed us that they had a lot of reservations She offered us a table straight opposite open kitchen where they were cooking and there was a lot of smoke in the air. As I have asthma we moved to a table through the restaurant. They must of forgotten about us as another couple came in and had menus given and ordered drinks and food. We were getting ready to walk out when the waiter remembered us. He brought over menus. My husband ordered a Keo beer and a small glass of wine. He came back with drinks Keo in a Stella Artois glass and myself a bottle of water ? We explained it was wine we ordered and one was brought. We ordered Halloumi Fries and Grilled Halloumi on pitta bread. The starters arrived mine was like eating rubber as it was cold and my husband said his was not hot. They brought our mains Chicken Gyros for my husband and Chicken Souvlaki for myself. My husbands chicken was scrappy bits of chicken the carrot and cabbage had no dressing on. Mine was cold the chicken was tough and chips were freezing. I like my food piping hot this was so cold I left it My husband ate some of his but did not finish the pitta bread was small triangles. We waited for the plates to be cleared and nobody came I had to get up and ask the chef if we could have the bill. Looking around there was not a single soul in the place we were the only two. So much for reservations . The waiter came and looked at the food that we had left I politely told him the food was cold. There was nobody around for us to complain too. £33.90 was the bill and was a waste of money No apology from waiter. We will not be returning

Just had my first and last visit to simply greek brunch house in newcastle. We got sat in the worst seat possible, literally next to the cutlery table, under a speaker. We couldn’t even hear each other over a little table but we thought it’s busy it’s fine we’ve got a seat. Ordered our drinks and our food, our starters had come and had been eaten before our drinks had even arrived and they only came after we requested them again. Got our mains, asked for another drink and again another 10 minute wait. We then asked for desserts to be told they’re “on display” by arguably the rudest server ever. I will note, the couple behind us when we first came in were told at the table what desserts there were. At this point we were fed up of being ignored and being spoken to like s**t by staff so we asked for the bill. Still paid for the 3 courses I may add. The worst part is, the food was amazing but the staff honestly let the place down. If i wanted to spend £50 to be ignored by staff and be spoken to like s**t I’d have gone to whetherspoons.

Simply NOT Greek Food was tasteless and chips cold

Had an amazing meal in the new restaurant, staff were so friendly and attentive, we got the mixed mezze it was less than £20 pp It was fantastic Greek food starters and mains so much food it almost had us beat and we are big eaters I would highly recommend this place great food and value

Thought we would try the new venue,wish we hadn’t. No alcoholic drinks available because they don’t have a licence to sell it but handed me a drinks menu & didn’t say anything about not being able to serve it until you try and order it. So I ordered soft drinks which didn’t arrive till after our food arrived & even then I had to ask for them. We ordered sharing meze for 2, the beef stifado was cold, the halloumi was cold, chicken gyros was cold, the mousaka wasn’t Greek at all it was more like shepherds pie. Everything else on the meze was nice. When asked for the bill it didn’t arrive so in the end I just went up to till to pay. Very disappointing

Have come here many times over the years and this time has been relocated to a new venue a few metres up the road. Well it may have moved a thousand as the restaurant is unrecognisable. Service is slow, waited 15 minutes for the drinks. Coke was warm and coffee was luke warm. Ordered starters and mains. The starters came with and after the mains. The chicken coftas wraps were cold, tasteless and barely seasoned. I ordered the spinach pie with humous and tzatziki side. The pie again was cold and the humous was awful. The tzatziki was bland and like the humus was stone cold almost frozen so why it took 25 minutes to come and we’ll after the pie I have no idea. It was inedible. My daughter ordered the halloumi fries and got grilled. The extra chips were again cold and rock hard. We told the waiting team to tell the manager which she did. The manager made no attempt to come over to us. We had to ask another waiter who asked again. They said they would give a 50% discount but didn’t come over to apologise.

Fantastic meal with great service. We both had the meze it was absolutely delicious. The waiter explained what everything was. Would highly recommend and will definitely return. 👍

Great lunch, and clearly very popular. Food was fantastic. We were unable to book a table due to expansion of their premises, so had to sit outside for our working lunch. That said, I imagine only a temporary blip. We would definitely go again. The team were excellent. All of our party enjoyed their food very much.

Amazing food, great value for money, central location and friendly staff! What else could you ask for? Shout out to Elizabeth and Keith who looked after us! Definitely will come again. Reserved a table at simply greek, they were closed and didn't let us know, even after all the hassle of reserving the table due to covid. unfortunately the greek bar a few bars down (Kafeneon) was open, made space for us but the only food that was authentic was the pitta bread. The starter was mediocre and both mains the meat was cooked bone dry accompanied by warm beers

Lovely meal, and staff excellent. I couldn't work out why it was so quiet compared to the other Greek restarant 5 doors up, as the food was just as good. We have tried both of them, and no complaints about either. I'll be more than happy to use Simply Greek again, when other is short on tables, or by default.

Stopped for lunch on a beautiful sunny day and decided to sit outside. Starters were Greek sausage and halloumi both delicious. We then waited over an hour for our main. We weren't too bothered at this but when we realised people were being served their food who had literally sat down for 20 minutes we asked where our mains were. Another 10 minutes passed and they came out with apologies. It seems a genuine mistake that we had been forgotten about. Mains were mixed grill and classic club again both delicious. We had mythos and a bottle of aphrodite white wine. They could not apologise enough for the error and brought us limencello and a beautiful dessert of chocolate cake baklava fresh fruit and cream. Mistakes do happen! All in all a beautiful relaxed authentically Greek meal costing £56.

Called in on spec with my wife Christine and daughter Chloe , ate outside because of current covid restrictions. Seated by pleasant and well mannered waitress , 2 ladies opted for the chicken gyro and myself chicken and bacon club sandwich which came with a portion of chips . A portion of garlic bread free of charge arrived previous to our main meal which was a nice and unexpected appetiser to our main meal, all food was delicious and hot , with drinks was less than £30, will return, staff pleasant and a lovely atmosphere. Highly reccommended

We visited Newcastle for a mid week getaway. Having eaten here before, in busier times. We chose to return and we were not disappointed. Our meals were both tasty and well presented. We had the Gryros plate and the Stifado. If we lived closer, the restaurant would be a favourite choice for our family. All meals were priced reasonably too

Tuve la desgracia de visitar Simply Greek Tavern el sábado por la noche (29 de agosto de 2020).Como 1 miembro de nuestro grupo está en "alto riesgo" de Covid 19, habíamos preguntado sobre las medidas de seguridad del restaurante antes de reservar. Nos aseguraron que habría distanciamiento, que se instalarían pantallas y que todo el personal usaría las cubiertas faciales adecuadas.Cuando llegamos, ni un solo miembro del personal vestía elementos de PPE (es decir, cubierta facial o visera) y no hicieron ningún esfuerzo por darle espacio personal. De hecho, al tomar pedidos o traer comida / bebida a nuestra mesa, todo el personal estaba extremadamente cerca de nosotros y nos hablaba constantemente (nuevamente con la boca abierta).No solo esto, el personal abrazaba abiertamente a clientes extremadamente borrachos antes de servir otras mesas.Lo que esto muestra es un total desprecio por las pautas y un absoluto desprecio por sus clientes (algunos de los cuales pueden estar en riesgo). Ni siquiera molestarse en aplicar las mínimas medidas de protección simplemente demuestra que no le importa. Además, la tergiversación de los procedimientos de seguridad a nuestro partido destaca esto aún más.Todo lo anterior arruinó una gran noche.Nunca volveremos.

My family and I visited on the 26th for a meal. The staff are great and attentive and the food was great. My only disappointment was the chips,they are cheap catering types, why not make Greek chips? I recommend this establishment to anyone.

It was raining and we where looking for somewhere to eat and decided to do something different. We looked at the menu which looked good and something we both liked the idea of trying. We entered the restuarant and where we recieved a freindlygreeted, it had just gone noon so we where able to get a seat. Covid details taken and hand sanitsier is available and the tables are spaced out. We couldnt decide what to eat so ended up choosing the Meze selection which comes in two parts starter and main options. it wasnt long befoe the starter selection arrived and we had to ease up to keep space for the mains. When the mains arrived it was a good selection of Pork and Chicken, Gyros, Greek sausage, lamb kofta and beef stiffado. the quality and taste was amazing and we couldnt actually finish the dishes. The service, freindly staff are a credit to the Resturant, and we will certinally come back sometime soon. Also its the first time i have ever been asked in a resturant if anyone in the group had any food allergies which is a show that they take food hygiene seriously

Passed by and was convinced by the lovely staff to sit and have a drink in the sun. Ended up having a whole meal as it was on the 50% government scheme day and i can honeslty say it was the best decision of the day. Cant wait to go again

When you push YAMAS all over your restaurant, you expect some kind of true authentic Greek food. However, this was not the case.All the food was covered in this weird seasoning that was horrible. Halloumi - covered in the seasoning. Chips - covered in the season. Bread - covered in the seasoning. Meat - covered in the same seasoning!We didn't finish our food and was left dissapointed. Will not come back if we visit Newcastle again. Only good thing was the beer... however main beer was Efes which is Turkish. Im sure you'd upset some Greeks with that!

Food was pretty awful, meat very fatty and bad cuts, badly presented and not well cooked. Had upset stomach following it. Bad service. But the worst part for me was the fact that the tables were so close together, all the staff were standing close to each other and us without masks on, and hygiene standards such as handwashing was very poor. I felt unsafe.

My wife and I have often mentioned popping in and today decided to have an early evening meal. Weather was warm, outside table available, things were looking good. Pleasant staff, helpful staff, then the food arrived. We ordered, beef stifdo, and a chicken souvlaki. It was tasteless and chicken looked undercooked. The Beef stifado, though well cooked again was tasteless. The Greek salad was very uninspiring. Very poor and very disappointing. Lip service to real Greek food. Shame really.

Having not been for a long time we went again last week and we were so pleased we did The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were huge. Staff very attentive but not in your face. We will certainly be visiting again very soon

Well... been a few years since we were here .. Elizabeth greeted us with a huge warm smile and a proper Greek welcome ... amazing ... food wow !! Homely and tasty proper Greek food !!
