Acropolis Greek Tavern in Oxford

I Rarely write reviews, but found myself facing the insatiable desire to do so following my visit to Acropolis. The staff Here were extremely friendly, Sohan In particular was very accommodating to our needs. The Food was absolutely exquisite and left our mouths drooling for more following the Feast.

Oxford was a place we often visited, and we have been to Acropolis Mediterranean Tavern many times. Bradley took care of us during our last trip in September. Excellent customer service, extremely approachable and warm - and let's not forget the delicious food they provided! Highly recommend it.

The waiter was friendly and helpful. It is a happy atmosphere. Food is fresh a d tasty.

Delivery driver didn’t read instructions clearly and couldn’t even understand me on the phone ,,, food looks great but unfortunately it’s stone cold due to driver ,

they served better. they will not served you sausages but an actual meat and they were marinated and grilled. the packaging is not paper. they used foil . they put sauces. thanks goodness I found you. thanks for the quality food and not overpriced. thanks for not serving me sausages!

Very good service and delicious food.

1st time eating here with my family, The food was hot but chicken in 2 of the dishes was very chewy never had any check back, we asked for dessert menu never received it.it was very busy as no one was turned away.sometimes less is best as can look after the customers that you already have seated.The tall man did comp off some money from the bill and apologise.

We just had dinner here, everyone so friendly and open to help us with everything we needed. Amazing service. When I asked for a kids portion as I am never able to finish regular size meals, the waiter immediately adapted my request to serve an adult’s dish just small portion. Very pleasant atmosphere, making you feel like you are out of Oxford for the time we spent there. Well done, to all the team. Amazing food, excellent service, spot on cleaning even in a busy evening!

Great atmosphere, great food and all at a great price! The friendly staff make you feel really welcome and with the quick service you can either eat and go or stay and relax.

We had dinner in this nice restaurant, given that I am very demanding when it comes to grilled meats, in this place I ordered the mixed grill and I must say that it was very good. All cooked to perfection and very filling. The souvlaki offered and the chicken dishes are also good. Kind and attentive staff.

Our favourite restaurant in Headington. Staff are very nice and helpful. The restaurant serves Halal meat. Love the sweet and salty Filo feta appetizer. The mix grill platter is delicious and Halal (if you skip the pork and susage) I have had all chicken platers and highly recommend them; Chicken shish, the creamy chicken and mushroom as well as the chicken spinach. I also had the meat balls as an appetizer and was good portion and good taste.

came to celebrate my boyfriends birthday meal here recently and would rate our overall experience a 3. food was very plain and both mains felt as though they were missing something? it’s as though the meat had been just grilled with no seasoning or any kind of marinate which the menu had promised. salads looked as though they had been out of a pre mix salad bag and not the traditional greek salad we had been expecting from a “greek” restaurant. halloumi was yummy but not for nearly £8. also worth mentioning their soft drinks are not branded coke or diet coke and felt a bit ripped off paying £3.50 for some own brand flat syrupy sugary cola. we waited 20mins for our plates to be cleared and a further 20mins to pay the bill. we were going to stay for dessert but decided to go elsewhere.

Late Friday night dinner in this outstanding establishment brought us exceptional memories for our holiday to Greece last year and the food service and atmosphere are amazing

Food is terrible- ordered a steak medium rare it came out raw- sent it back to be cooked properly the rest of my food was then stone cold

Stopping in headington for lunch, as always Greek food is high on my list to try so we stopped here at acropolis for quick bite. Ordered off a lunch menu which had a good selection of starters and mains to choose from, £5 for any starter on the list and £10 for any main also on the list. Went for a chicken souvlaki with rice. Portion size was ok not huge or small, the chicken had a nice char flavour with decent seasoning throughout, juicy chicken succulent and holding the flavour especially when squeezing fresh lemon over it. Came with a portion of rice with peas and carrots mixed in, pretty much what you expect, maybe reheated? It wasent bad but it was bland and standard. Had a garlic sauce on the side which was very nice creamy and garlicy! I would say for £10 I would liked maybe a side salad aswell as rice, or some bread too. Dish felt like it was missing somthing, maybe it was that. Overall I would rate it 7.5/10 - potentially like to try their evening menu and get a full vibe from the spot, as I’m sure it has some hidden gems on the menu!

We have been twice for birthday celebrations. The staff are wonderful, the food is excellent and it's very good value. I really recommend this Greek restaurant

Cannot praise this restaurant enough We have now visited this restaurant on several occasions including family meal. Yesterday was no exception the service, food and ambiance incredible. Pleasant restaurant to chill out (even had Greek group playing music) last night. Would definitely recommend this restaurant but advise booking otherwise you could be disappointed as it gets very busy.

Quaint restaurant totally enjoyed my vegan meal. Definitely would recommend checking out this delightful restaurant. Value for money.

What a gem 💎!! We stumbled upon this unassuming little restaurant in Headington, it was brilliant. Food was absolutely delicious (we had lamb, Greek salad, octopus) service was superb. There was even live Greek music.

Great service and good atmosphere. Food options are aplenty. Food presentation can be deceiving, however, the quantity once consumed is apt. Parking can be tricky, but using Park&Ride as usual, to get to Oxford, is a natural solution.

Great food felt almost like being in a Greek tavern fish tank is amazing

Perfect portions, perfect price, perfectly cooked food. Bit slow on getting the drinks in but it was very busy, so no big deal. Live music was fun. Could get rid of the bit of mould stain on the wall with some paint in the booth though, but still 5 stars.

Authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. The vegetarian platter for 2 people was extremely generous and we couldn’t finish it! Would definitely come back.

My order doesn't deliver at all the restaurant doesn't respond to my call .the time I write this review is 30 minutes due.i don't know why they accept orders from the moment they can't deliver promptly. Thanks for nothing..

Very nice atmosphere with live music, and the food was nice! The chicken was slightly too salty for my taste, but otherwise it was a great service.

Quality food with nicest customer service

We have been there already twice with my partner and will definitely come again. Fresh, delicious food (I would recommend to try octopus or calamari for starter and take any grilled fish for the main). Fair prices, great and speedy service.

Mixed grill was cold and over cooked, meat was too dry. Swordfish was too dry and overcooked , disappointing

Really lovely Greek food. Had some lovely hot pitta to start with tzatiki and hummus, followed up by a mixed grill. Decent prices, good service, quite impressed all round! The atmosphere was quite nice too, we got there a little early, but by 7pn it was basically full (always a good sign!)

Terrific time here with a small post-wedding meal for 10 at 4pm including the bride in her wedding dress! Such a lovely welcome and setting too, and delicious food served beautifully. I'll most definitely be returning. And the owners' other place is an immaculate and sparkling new coffee shop in Broad Street, Oxford ..but I regret I can't recall the name.

We went for dinner to Acropolis yesterday and This meal was phenomenal. Such a lovely atmosphere and vibe. 5 stars are not enough to describe the food, specially the musaka and Chefspecial never had food like this in my entire life. THE BEST place to go! The service was amazing, the food is probably prepared by God's chefs. Portions are good size(I would say BIG) and you can take away too. We will come back! Highly recommended!!!!

We came last minute for my friends 21st birthday and the staff made our evening, the waiter came over and gave the birthday girl a free cocktail ( we had a 21st birthday balloon and didn’t request anything) and then after we finished our meal the whole restaurant sang happy birthday and we received a free slice of cake. We had a lovely evening and would definitely come again. Thank you for making our friends night ♥️

I had to go out for an emergency so I was not home, the order wasn't delivered at all even though the status is delivered. Why was it not left at the door?

Excellent food, good portions and delivered quicker than expected and perfectly hot despite a long distance.

On 2nd Nov, day before operation at Nuffield  i decided to have a 'last meal'. By serendipity chose this. Best Sea Bass I've ever had in UK. Everything else was top notch. People there were so friendly it was like visiting long lost family.

When travelling from Cornwall to visit my family and friends in Headington, my first meal is always at Acropolis and I'm slowly working my way down the vegetarian menu. The food is freshly cooked and seasoned to perfection and my father and husband agree with me who have a different meat dish every time.

Not a fan of Greek food before but what an excellent lunch. Great food, fantastic service and pleasant staff. A must to visit again

Authentic Greek food at very reasonable prices. Great team of waiting staff. The extension at the back is a bit lacking in atmosphere compared to the tables at the front, but everything else about this restaurant is excellent.

The best place to eat in Headington. The food is always amazing, the atmosphere is warm and has great service. Try the village suasage, the fluffy yoghurt dip that comes with the cheese mushrooms, and the Greek brandy coffee.

The moussaka looked like it could have been purchased from the freezer cabinet in the Coop next door - a kind of large wedge of soap. the Greeks salad looked thrown together. The staff were humourless and lacked any real enthusiasm and charm. it's a pity - I won't be going back

Dined here with my girlfriend during our visit to Oxford, staying outside we found this restaurant via Google. We love Greek food and it truly did not disappoint. My girlfriend said it was as good as the Greek food she had on holiday in Greece and it was the best Greek food I have had ever. The Stifados was wonderful, tender and tasty. The Swordfish was fantastic and the Baklava was out of this world, remember to save space for it. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, service is great and non intrusive and good value for money. Its a short bus/taxi ride from the City Centre and well worth it.

Fries in the wrap were doggy and not fully cooked, rest of the order was very good, especially the filou feta.

When I ordered, the delivery time was an hour away. Not too great as I was hungry, but OK. Less than an hour later I saw the driver was on their way. So I waited. Until the end of the expected delivery time, when suddenly I was informed my food had been delivered, and asked how I enjoyed it. I phoned the restaurant several times, who told me to just wait and it would come. I wouldn't have minded so much if there had been any communication from the restaurant or the driver about being late.

Based on reviews took a chance to visit. They were very busy and kindly squeezed me, a solo person, in before their 7.30pm booking arrived. Great service, attentive and retrieved flying olive from plate to floor. Moussaka delicious. Wish I could have lingered longer coz atmosphere lively with sounds of Greece in background. Fab house white wine 👌

Acropolis in Headington is one of our go to places to eat out in Oxford. We have been many times and have enjoyed it every time. The food is excellent, well presented, cooked to perfection and with a wide variety of flavours. We often order a number of starters (as we do particularly like the choice Acropolis offers) and then share a main. This works really well for us, and we always leave feeling satisfied, if not a little on the full side! The staff have always been brilliant, they are friendly, approachable and attentive. In todays visit we ended up talking to one of the staff who recognised us from previous visit, we talked about food and holidays among other things. The restaurant is warm, inviting, and decorated with Greek photos, statues, and a rather impressive fish tank under the bar. In the summer the front is completely opened up to allow in summer air and provide some tables on the street side. Thank you for todays meal, we look forward to the next one! In particular, thank you for the saganaki which isn’t current on the menu, but we mentioned in passing (to enquire if it would come back on the menu at some point) and behold, a few moments later it arrived on our table. We felt both a little cheeky and well looked after at the same time, thank you!

Excellent service, the chicken is a bit bland but with the white sauce, it's delightful. I love the bread with hummus and their prawns were amazing. The staff were very friendly too and the whole feel of the restaurant is nice.

Don't normally give 5 stars, but this place is special, felt I was back in Greece. Service was convivial, food was great and price most acceptable.

Disgusting service we went for a meal as a couple. We asked for a table they took us to the green house out back , we then asked if we could sit near front as it was way to hot with my medical condition they refused And they were not full, I said ok I will have to go somewhere else ,they then said ok then I feel sad that they were so rude and no care for my Medical condition ,do not go here

The food is fantastic, the place is really clean and enjoyable. The service could be better. They're never rude, but sometimes they seem a bit indiferent, still five starts for me regardless.

Wonderful place. I had the suzoukakia (meatballs) - absolutely delicious and a really good portion size. Would recommend!

Took my wife for lunch, really lovely place. Food was all really tasty. Portion sizes on their lunch menu were great, just the right side of generous. Pricing all felt right as well. It was a lovely sunny and warm day, and it was a beautiful space to enjoyable the back; feeling like we were away from the noise of the road outside. We are definitely going to go back more.
