Bebbles Langos

Hailsham Central and North, Wealden, <20£
09/06/2019: Wonderful evening at Bebbles with Jackie the owner and her husband who is the chef. The food is fantastic as is the atmosphere. Really interesting menu, different and beautifully executed! It’s the kind of place you visit and want to go straight back to the next day! Would recommend for a dinner or lunch and try everything on the menu it’s really good food.
09/06/2019: Friends and I decided to try Bebbles on the spur of the moment and we were so glad we did. From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted with friendly smiles and amazing service. As we hadn’t been before the staff took the time to explain everything on the menu. The food was amazing and so filling. The atmosphere is lovely and chilled, just perfect for catching up with friends. We were seeing something at the cinema next door and the owner made sure we ate and left in time. We were too full for puddings - which looked amazing so that’s the next thing to try. It was really busy so I’d advise booking.

The Apiary Coffee Shop and Garden

Alfriston, Wealden, <20£
12/06/2019: We wandered into a shop, which on one side was a tea shop and the other-side a clothes shop. My wife and I were then led into a very picturesque garden and seated.
27/05/2019: Went out for a bank holiday walk with the wife in Alfriston and decided to stop somewhere for a drink, we popped into The Apiary by pure chance and was surprised to find out that it leads to a stunning back garden . Ideal for a pit stop or bite to eat, beautiful surroundings and very friendly staff, dog friendly. Will definitely be going back

Heathfield North and Central, Wealden
14/06/2019: We had heard great things about Pilio, from before it moved to it's (wonderful) new premises. We were staying in Heathfield for our anniversary and birthdays, and actually postponed our celebratory meal by a day so that we could go to Pilio (our anniversary was on a Monday). They squeezed us in last minute, and we had a wonderful tine; great ambience, lovely staff and service, and gorgeous food! We will definitely be returning next time we are in the area!
11/06/2019: Upon arrival we were informed that it was cash only so we spent 15 minutes trying to find a cash point open .

The Royal Indian Restaurant

Hailsham South and West, Wealden, 20-30£

03/06/2019: This place is so good I don't want to tell anyone about it in case I can't get in next time!

The Blue Anchor

Crowborough West, Wealden
26/05/2019: We moved within a 10 minute walk of The Blue Anchor just over a year ago but have only recently found the time to stroll up for a visit & glad we did. Excellent food served by Amy & her friendly team & always with a smile. We’ve now been 4 times both as a couple & with various family members in less than a month & have always left without anything to grumble about. Well done Amy on turning this place round, you’ve got some new regulars in us!!
26/05/2019: We had a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Blue Anchor and will be returning! - also the staff are brilliant!

The White Hart

Buxted and Maresfield, Wealden
15/06/2019: We had the most perfect evening at the White Hart It started with delicious gin cocktails followed by the most amazing salt and pepper squid ( the best I’ve had anywhere ) and tasty pork belly bites. The seafood linguini was outstanding too. Finally a lovely desert nibble came out with a Happy Anniversary message on it. So thoughtful. We finished with expression martinis on a comfortable couch. I would highly recommend this pub to everyone. Thanks .
04/06/2019: A great evening at this awesome pub. Wonderful food - incredible beef - great wine list and very friendly service. Great that we now have a fantastic pub in Buxted!

The Cottage Restaurant

Hailsham South and West, Wealden
18/06/2019: I visited The Cottage with a group of friends, I have eaten here before but many of them hadn’t.
07/06/2019: Having read the reviews this looked like a good place to stop on the way back from Eastbourne. Well for a start its on the SOUTHJBOUND carriageway of the dual carriageway, so you need to watch out for it coming out of Eastbourne heading North.

Herstmonceux, Wealden
13/06/2019: My family have been visiting this restaurant for many years and always speak very highly of it. We went for dinner last night and I can only say their positive reviews were accurate. The food, service and setting were excellent. I would highly recommend a visit.
12/06/2019: Not our usual route home, however, after a long day we decided to stop off, unannounced and see what this restaurant had to offer. With no booking, we were invited to the bar to take a seat to peruse the menu prior to be taken to our table. So this is a very old school, charming, fine dining establishment offering endless ranges of quality fine wines and excellent food dishes, exceptionally well presented. My wife and I started with the mushroom soup, which was rich, tasty and glorious. The Partridge was a little tough, but well worth the challenge accompanied with top vegetables too. The desert, pineapple tart was truly lovely and so well presented. Not too sweet and full of different flavours. Probably the best selection of hand picked cheeses we have seen and tasted anywhere, some of which were specially imported from France. Recommend for a quality evening of fine dining.

Alfriston, Wealden
10/06/2019: Loved our stay here on our South downs way walk. Great breakfast and friendly hosts. The most charming cottage!
09/06/2019: We loved our afternoon tea - it was perfect in every way. A great price at £9.95 we had a choice of sandwiches and choice of bread which was so fresh it was delicious. We had a choice of fruit or plain scone and we chose plain which was served with a choice of jam (we chose blackcurrant) and proper clotted cream. The cakes weren’t served at the same time because if you are too full to eat them they are boxed up ready for you to take away. We had a choice of delicious home made cakes - we chose bread pudding and chocolate and Guinness cake although we were tempted by the parsnip and apple cake.

Highlands Inn

Uckfield Ridgewood, Wealden, <20£
09/06/2019: If you have read my previous review of this pub, you will know that we live literally 4 minutes walk away and have enjoyed having a local pub which serves good food. However, our one grumble was that the menu does not change enough. We used to visit the Highlands on average once every 10 days, if not on a weekly basis, but we are now becoming seriously bored with the menu. They do have a small "specials" choice menu, but tbh this does not seem to change very much either. The other change we have noticed lately is that when the pub was first taken over by the Ridley family - who did indeed change it dramatically for the better - the clientele was mostly couples or small families, which gave the Highlands a very "local pub" and friendly feel, even though it has a large, open dining area. Over the last year, this seems to have changed. Now, they seem to cater for much larger parties and celebrations. We were there last night, and there were two large birthday parties (with balloons announcing 40th and 50th birthdays), and several more large tables. This means that there is much more noise and the pub seems to be less of a place for a quiet meal, more of a place where they are attracting larger groups. Doubtless they are making money, which is after all what a business is supposed to do, but the pub has become much less personal and more corporate. We think this is very sad. We wonder whether the fact that the menu has hardly changed in over two years has put off couples like ourselves, and so they are resorting to the larger parties who, because they obviously do not come regularly, are not aware that the menu never changes and therefore it is not a problem. We find that when we mention the Highlands to people in our (quite large) circle of friends the almost unanimous opinion is that they, like us, would go more often but find the menu boring and no longer exciting. The food is still good - apart from the fact that they seem to serve red cabbage unrelentingly with nearly everything - and we would love to make the Highlands our regular "go to" place when we go out as it is so close, but because there is so little we now want to eat (yet again!) we go elsewhere more often than not now. It seems such a pity. Most other pubs and restaurants manage to change their menus regularly: we wonder why the Highlands don't seem to bother. I am really sad not to be able to write a great review. We used to be very enthusiastic about this pub, and went there very regularly, and if they could just be a bit more adventurous with their menu, we would do so again. As it is, we just go now when we cannot be bothered to drive, which is not a good reason to go.
09/06/2019: Visited with family for Sunday lunch. Due to an unfortunate incident with one of our grandchildren we had to delay ordering our meal. The staff could not have been more understanding and helpful.

The Red Lion

Ninfield and Hooe with Wartling, Wealden
16/06/2019: We visited today for Fathers Day for the 2.30pm seating. The pub was very busy with diners from the previous seating leaving and new diners arriving.
11/06/2019: Wow this place is lovely! We were staying at Rosemary cottage and our host Lindy highly recommended the Red Lion and we weren’t disappointed.

Ocean View Bakery & Restaurant

Pevensey and Westham, Wealden
15/06/2019: This bakery/cafe is just off the beach in Pevensey Bay. Inside, the decor is retro kitch without even trying! It hasn't changed for years.
30/05/2019: we have been several times, and each time were met by friendly staff, excellant food. we are allways made welcome

The Cottage Tea Room

Wadhurst, Wealden
10/06/2019: So pleased to have stumbled across this lovely tearoom. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious scones and tea and friendly service. Only thing I do regret is not taking a piece of the Victorian sponge with me.
09/06/2019: Had a lovely meal with my partner, food was excellent, friendly service. My wife loved the gluten free cakes.

Fortune Fish Bar

Uckfield Central, Wealden
07/04/2019: The best fish and chips for miles. Great service ample portions and cooked to order and perfection 👍
02/03/2019: Living a few miles away I tripadvisored best fish and chips locally after my normal chippy has not been so good later. Well the cod and chips we had was some of best I have ever had and we will be going back. Fresh and tasty.
