Bebbles Langos

Hailsham Central and North, Wealden, <20£
16/03/2019: The vegan options are absolutely amazing - the vegan cheese especially. The can also make the bases on the desserts vegan too, we both agreed (having not been there before) that we will be going very often!!! Loved it!!! Friendly staff too, very accommodating if you have dietary needs
13/03/2019: The food is delicious, the service is awesome! The chef is very talented, we had the best meal and caters perfectly for children too. Could not recommend enough. Will be back again and again!

Heathfield North and Central, Wealden
19/03/2019: One of the best restaurants in Heathfield highly recommended 10 out of 10 for service quality and atmosphere I must visit. Highly recommended.
09/03/2019: As one reviewer has pointed out, that this small restaurant requires booking in advance, says much for it's deserved popularity.

The Apiary Coffee Shop and Garden

Alfriston, Wealden, <20£
03/02/2019: Best coffee shop in the village, very nice coffee & cake. People there have always been friendly when we visit, particularly like the warmth there in the winter months! Plus nice garden area for the summer NB. Walker friendly
27/01/2019: My wife and I had visited a couple of tea rooms in Alfriston and had been quite happy, but decided to try another one when our daughter and husband visited. We were more than pleased with our choice. There was something enjoyable for each of us on the menu and the young person serving us could not have been more pleasant. As we left my wife said we would definitely revisit - when it is warmer.

Herstmonceux, Wealden
15/02/2019: This place came highly recommended to me so I booked to take my partner for Valentines day. Its the little things that make a place. When we arrived, our table was the only one that didn't have little heart shaped decorations on it. The staff didn't seem overly chatty or friendly. Half way though the meal I realised that we had not been given one of the mini courses which I only noticed on reviewing the menu as it was written in the smallest text. As a whole I found the food to be alright but nothing special. My Partridge was rather dry and the fillet steak was tough. Maybe just a bad day at the office? Seemed to me they were cramming the tables in as seemed to be very close to each other. Lastly I didn't like the forced service charge. I will always tip for good service but It should be at the customers discretion, not the restaurants! Also when the service charge is added to the bill, in my experience, it is rarely passed on to the waiting staff. unlikely to return.
13/01/2019: Why have I not been there for 15 years, it was wonderful then and today just as good. First class menu , beautifully cooked and presented by first class staff in excellent surroundings what more could you want. Will not wait so long to return.

The Middle House

Mayfield, Wealden
13/03/2019: Once again, we visited the Middle House to catch up with our friends over a delicious meal. The pork belly was especially good ----coiled and with almost enough crackling! Good wine too!
11/03/2019: I have been lucky enough to enjoy 3 Afternoon Teas here & am up for booking a 4th! First two were when we had glorious weather so we were able to sit on the wonderful outside area enjoying the amazing views. This time the weather was shocking but inside (even though only 2 other tables were taken) we had a really jolly time & the atmosphere was fine. Haven't been disappointed with the choice of sandwiches, cakes & teas. All brilliant. PINK bubbles are also superb.

The Village Shop & Cafe

Hellingly, Wealden
10/03/2019: Three generations of our family including a two-year-old went there on TA advice. It is hidden down a drive off a minor road, so relies on locals and its reputation for business. The décor is English tearoom meets continental bar, but it works! It was full Saturday lunchtime, but we were offered a table in ten minutes and it was ready as promised. Tables are wiped and disinfected between customers. It has a varied but sensible café menu with soups, snacks, mains, desserts and cakes. There is a kids' menu and toddlers in highchairs can have a choice of finger food. Everything is reasonably priced, food is tasty and portions are generous. Alcoholic drinks are available. Staff are friendly, attentive and enthusiastic. Ticks all my boxes, except I wish we lived nearer.
06/03/2019: My local go to for good hearty food! Highly recommend the breakfasts here and also great for kids and dogs. Staff are always smiling and friendly!

Highlands Inn

Uckfield Ridgewood, Wealden, <20£
04/03/2019: My first visit to the Highlands Inn and I really enjoyed lunch here. Good food, quick friendly and efficient service. Very nice surroundings and plenty of car parking space. I would certainly recommend the Highlands Inn
02/03/2019: We booked a table of 10 mid week knowing this place gets busy during the weekend when we arrived there was one other table in the reasturant when going through the menu we realised it hasn’t changed in over a year boring!! The waitress arrived and took our drinks order we then waited another 25 minutes for our food order to be taken, our food arrived and we had to return 2 meals straight away the fish was so over cooked there was no fish left in the batter when the second fish dishes came out the fish agin over coooked and clearly the oil was old the burgers were rubbery and bland just a real shame when I told the waitress about the food issue she shrugged her shoulders and walked off and looked like she was talking about ya to another member of staff no farewell was given when leaving no offer of deserts at the table no offer off drinks we had to go to the bar to order them after our first order was taken just disappointing to see a nice place go down hill so quick!

The Beehive on the Green

East Dean, Wealden
22/02/2019: We were on a circular walk from Birling gap and ended up in east dean. Lucky for us the beehive was still open. We were immediately made to feel welcome (two windswept walkers and a 9 month old baby!) and offered a high chair.
04/02/2019: Lovely food, nice people, good service. The vegetarian offerings are really hearty, and the soup delicious.

The Red Lion

Ninfield and Hooe with Wartling, Wealden
05/03/2019: Enjoyed a meal with friends tonight, lovely homemade food, curry was so tasty, friendly service and lovely cosy atmosphere, would highly recommend a visit here
16/02/2019: What can I say? The epitome of what a Sussex pub should be.

The Cottage Restaurant

Hailsham South and West, Wealden
10/03/2019: A really enjoyable meal was had here. Chicken with a green peppercorn sauce was divine. The bread with cheese and garlic was gorgeous. Seafood risotto went down a treat. Nice cosy restaurant which was clean and food was served with a smile.
03/03/2019: Dropped in here on spec. Overall it was fine. Service was good and unhurried. The food was also fine. Portion sizes are small. I was still hungry after starter and main. Banoffee pie was bought in with way too much cream and little Banoffee. House wine was poor. There was nothing wrong with it but nothing to make me want to visit again

The White Hart

Buxted and Maresfield, Wealden
11/03/2019: We were staying locally at a hotel and couldn’t find many places around to eat. We then came across the White Hart on tripadvisor and a guest at the hotel also told us they had a steak night on Thursdays, so we booked a table. It was amazing, we couldn’t fault anything – the starters (Calamari and Mussels) were both full of flavour, and the Ribeye steak was cooked Med/Rare to absolute perfection! The steak was of very good quality and the wine included was a really good deal, and lovely wine too. The service received was 5* from both our waitresses who were very friendly and professional, all topped off by the service of the Manager (I think his name was Ben?). We would love to return here… and if you’re looking for a nice place to eat with a pub feel but amazing food do not hesitate! 5 stars all round
09/03/2019: I’m a very fussy eater and struggle to eat out but I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is always spot on and the cocktails are amazing too

The Blue Anchor

Crowborough West, Wealden
07/03/2019: Being gluten free can make eating out a nightmare but not so at The Blue Anchor. On request the chef marked up the menu and I was told that as all the food was freshly cooked most items could be made gluten free, likewise with the desserts. It was a pleasure to have so much choice, plus the food was really good - thanks.
06/03/2019: With a need to visit Crowborough for an appointment we came across this pub for lunch. What a great find. Very nicely decorated, very clean, very friendly staff and a terrific range of choices for lunch. The food was superb. Even succumbed to a terrific dessert. All food was very well prepared and presented.

Badgers @ the Old Village Bakery

Alfriston, Wealden
17/03/2019: Sometimes have to wait for a table, but it’s worth it. Staff are helpful, scones very yummy. I take different friends so I have an excuse to go back
17/03/2019: Cream tea lovely and fair price for the area. Sitting area good and busy which is always a good sign.

Horsted Place Restaurant

Danehill/Fletching/Nutley, Wealden
25/02/2019: This restaurant is billed as fine dining, it is not. It is let down by the quality of the food and the service. We dined on a Sunday evening and it was very quiet, the almost total absence of any other guests gave it a funereal ambience. After drinks in the drawing room, we ordered our food, my main course arrived cold and was sent back. Waiter service was very inattentive and whilst sometimes this can be nice, on this occasion it was irritating to have to wait 10 minutes to pay the bill after originally requesting it.
03/11/2018: My wife and I enjoyed the most amazing of lunches. The food was wonderful, the staff were very nice. A very special place.
