After many visits to the pub for social drinking I decided to try the Sunday lunch menu. Good decision. I had the beef bourginoin pie with all the trimmings and "wifey" had lamb shank. Wow!!! Despite it being a very busy saturday afternon with live music in the garden, the service was fast and the meal was delicious. A mushroom, chickpea and spinach vegan curry with just the right ratio of sauce to texture, served with a good portion of perfectly cooked rice and even some naan bread to mop up the plate. A large portion so I didn't manage to finish it, which is inheard of for me! I'd definitely recommend the curry here and there are plenty of other excellent looking choices on the menu too.

The King’s Head were so lovely in helping to organise and hold the wake for our Nan. At such a delicate time for our family, they catered to all the food requirements we requested and nothing seemed too much for them. We received wonderful service from the staff and management. We booked a table for our party of 11 for dinner, which included 5 children. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, the pub has a nice feel to it and a garden in the back. The menu is not over - complicated, which is a relief to see. We had a lovely friendly service and while waiting for the food the kids even were offered bubbles to blow in the garden. There's also a very friendly pub dog :) The food was absolutely delicious. The kids had bratwurst (proper German ones), others tried the chilli sausage, burgers and two of us had a chicken curry. The burgers and sausages come from the local butcher. The chicken curry was one of the tastiest I've had and a huge portion too - it was all cooked from scratch, in house. It was better than some Indian restaurants or takeaways would offer! We all left with full tummies, and a smile on our faces. We'll definitely return if in the neighborhood again and I would definitely recommend this lovely, friendly place with their delicious food.

Not sure where to have a lunch to celebrate our 51st Anniversary and decided rather than driving around making a choice decided to keep it all local .Had noticed clapper board several times earlier stating carvery will be served on Sundays 1200-1600 and booking recommended. On off chance popped in at around 1230 to find pleasant dining area with couple tucking in. Sat down and were given menu-choices of 2 roasts with veg and next page were the puddings displayed. Had a traditional roast beef with Yorkshire plus 4 veg-if wanted more veg just ask very obliging owner and staff.. Choice of drinks were very good-as one would expect from a Harveys. Waddled home very contented and highly recommend you try it out yourselves!! The menu proudly advertised who the local suppliers were for their meat/vegetables-praise indeed .Well worth having one of the steamed puds served with plenty of custard-you could have ice cream instead. Not seen that before and nice touch. The cut of the joint was superb and melted in ones mouth. Get on over yourselves and enjoy good old fashioned grub in pleasant surroundings-even has spacious garden at rear .Adequate car parking spaces.

Whilst visiting Hailsham on a Sunday with a friend we decided to find somewhere to have lunch, not being familiar with the area we came across the Kings Head who were advertising food, we decided to take a chance. It is very much a local pub, quite a few people in the bar most seemed to know each other and were in fact very friendly towards us "Strangers" On enquiring we were told that they were unfortunately fully booked for lunch we explained we did not know the area and could they tell us where we might find somewhere to eat, they were very helpful and suggested a couple of places and then seemed to take pity on us and said if we didn't mind eating in the bar they could accommodate us... we didn't mind at all!! My friend ordered venison which she said was "Delicious" I had the roast pork which was also excellent both meals came with Yorkshire pudding ,roast potatoes, vegetables were served separately enough for the largest appetite!! I had a shandy my friend had lemonade we were surprised when told the bill came to only £18 00. I wish this pub was nearer to me I would be there every week. We will definitely go back but will make sure we book next time ...Thank you for making our visit to Hailsham memorable

Went to the Kings Head with family for lunch. It was a lovely day but because there was so many wasps around decided to eat inside. Looked at the menu and was impressed at the choice of meals on offer. Got my drink of soda water and blackcurrant only to find it flat. My daughter and her partner were treating me to lunch and I did not want to make a fuss so kept quiet. I had ordered the leek, cheese and potato homemade pie which I was thoroughly looking forward to. When it arrived it was swimming in gravy and the few so called fresh vegetables served separately were non discript. After a couple of mouthfuls I decided the pie was off as it had a tangy taste and the pastry was soggy. This was the worst meal I have ever eaten. I know I should have complained but I thought simple won't be going back there again. The only bit that was good was the banoffee pie and one would expect that to be great. As we were leaving the pub I saw a notice advertising a vacancy for a head chef which probably explained why the food was awful. No I won't be going back and I personally would not recommend this pub for food. Sorry this is a negative review but I have to tell you from my experience. Perhaps you have been fortunate to have enjoyed your meal here but not me!

Purely by accident my son and found the Kings Head whilst lookinf for some where to eat as it was gone midday.Having been to Alfriston I shot off the main drag and went towards Hailsham. There about quarter of a mile down the road was the Kings Head an lovely greetingfrom the land lady and we were seated with the menus. The menu was quite extensive for a small country pub only wanting a lunch we ordered mains. We sat in the bar area where it was nice and light and airy with antique furnishings that added to the abience of the place. The meals arrived and the sea food salad that ordered was immense an excellent feed my son had sea bass which together with my salad was excellent value and really very well presented. The salad comprised of just about every local peice of ocean creature you could find.I am informed that the guinness was just right and the merlot that I had was full bodied and tasty was on quite a good vintageAlthough there is no table cloths or cutlery to hand it did in no way detract from the good food and a pleasant atmosphere.

I have driven past the Kings Head in South Road, Hailsham many times over many years, but I had never been inside. Their board outside advertised fresh food and with five friends, I went there for dinner. What a pleasant surprise. We discovered a hidden secret and we all had one of the best pub meals we'very ever had - and we eat out twice a week regularly. Mark & Anita are excellent hosts and we appreciated the fact that the chef, wearing his 'whites' came to our table to ask if everything was OK.The menu suits all tastes with a wide choice and the quality of the food is excellent. The chef told us that he gets his meat from Brains Butchers in Willingdon, who have 2 local farms, & his fish from Billingsgate. An excellent dining experience and we've already booked a further visit with other friends.

Her meal was similar to ours with a few more vegetables. Parking is good, but be careful when pulling out of the car park as there is a main road, and traffic does seem to whiz by..

Popped in for an early evening pint just over two weeks ago, whilst staying nearby. Nice looking pub, real fire, friendly locals and staff. My wife and I enjoyed a well kept pint of Harveys Old Ale each. The following lunchtime I returned for lunch with my inlaws. I had the halloumi burger, which was very nice indeed. Well presented, good salad and perfect chips: crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Ale was a little on the cold side on this visit but still drinkable. I'd definitely return.
