47 The Street

Rayne, Braintree
08/03/2019: Looking for somewhere different to celebrate our birthday we decided on 47 the street. It was an inspired choice. The service, food and wine were absolutely excellent. A birthday to remember.
24/02/2019: Amazing roast on a Sunday, meat and vegetables cooked to perfection. No rushing us very relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff and lovely vintage charm to this village restaurant that brings people from all around Essex. So lucky we can walk!!

West Street Vineyard

Coggeshall and North Feering, Braintree
18/03/2019: We had a superb lunch from the ‘new’ menu.
10/03/2019: In January my wife and I visited for a wine tasting school. Jane took us through a wide variety of fabulous wines and her knowledge energy and passion was wonderful. All of us in the tasting chatted about things over lunch and aftewards, and came away having learnt new things and tasted new exciting (unheard of to me) wines, and would highly recommend this experience to anyone to help grow there knowledge or just find out the basics.

Blue Strawberry Bistrot

Hatfield Peverel, Braintree
18/03/2019: Food and Drinks are good but just a shade higher than what is now the norm for a pub lunch. Service was good. Booking is essential to guarantee a table and once your allotted time is up the staff are keen for you to leave so they can prepare for the next party.
16/03/2019: Ten of us came for Lunch, I was disappointed. I thought the menu was quite limited, very few options for vegetarians. I thought the Lunch was very expensive for what we had. We've been here lots of times, this was the first time I've felt let down

Witham Chipping Hill and Central, Braintree
10/03/2019: Today we visited for our sons 7th birthday with 8 friends. We had excellent service and attention. A pile of plates were placed next to the cake without us asking. They all had a great time. Thank you to the staff.
05/03/2019: We visited this lovely restaurant with my husband as his birthday treat. Food fantastic a specially posh pepperoni.

Wildens Restaurant

Braintree Central, Braintree
13/03/2019: Another excellent lunch at Weavers today. A party of 6 and we had a round table which was great. Food and service as good as ever and we have visited several times and never been disappointed
11/03/2019: Went to Weavers on 10th March with friends. The roast was delicious and the dessert to die for. Really good value at Under £20 for three courses would recommend.

Petals Tea Room

Yeldham, Braintree
12/03/2019: My wife found petals on TA. we decided to have lunch there on a Saturday. We booked a table (advisable) as petals is very popular. When we visited they were in the throws of building an extension to the tea room which should be open very soon. The menu is not extensive but what is served is cooked to order and is fresh. I had the baked Camembert which is served with chunks of joint bacon with a large hit baguette with a mixed salad, apple slices, grapes and chilly jam and chutney. My wife had a club plus sandwich which consisted of the usual club ingredients plus melted cheese, egg and chilly jam accompanied by crisps. We had teas and coffees and we left totally satisfied. The decor in petals keeps you occupied consisting of amusing signs, plaques and pictures that is pitched to appeal to children and adults. All in all a very pleasant experience and reasonably priced. We spoke to the owner who explained the timescales for the extension. We visited in early March when we experienced the strong winds. There is an outside area which considering the weather still looked appealing and in better weather would be lovely with shade and seating. We plan to go back once the new extension is open. Give it a try. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed.
03/03/2019: It was my third visit to Petals and third afternoon tea but my Husband's first time there as I kept going on about it I thought I had better take him and he loved it, it's so warm, friendly and cosy and the food was delicious, we are currently enjoying a jar of the cherries and berries preserve on our toast. We sat admiring the cakes and will be back to sample one of these in the near future.

The Cross Keys

Black Notley and Terling, Braintree
16/03/2019: Service very good. Mains flavour good but one dessert was dry and flavourless. Also not sure that they are really geared up for vegetarian dishes. Might give it another go but not sure.
11/03/2019: We visited the cross keys for sunday lunch and it was fantastic. Great selection of starters and mains. The food was delicious and plenty of it. Excellent service and a really lovely old pub with a good selection of ales. Will definitely return.

Crofters Brasserie

Witham Chipping Hill and Central, Braintree, <20£
04/03/2019: Having eaten here several times with family, the service is always bright and bubbly and despite the fact we are generally a large table of 12+ we don’t find ourselves with a long wait. The food is always hot and deliscious and the menu is always fresh and plentiful in choices. I’d highly recommend eating here.
04/03/2019: This was the latest of our major celebrations at Crofters. Staff were attentive and friendly as usual, buffet is excellent. If you are looking for a a great atmosphere in classic bistro surroundings this is the place

King William IV

Great Notley and Braintree West, Braintree
03/02/2019: excellent local pub with brilliant variety of local drinks (Moody Goose, Adnams etc. Small in size but a friendly staff and friendly locals
10/12/2018: Great local pub this. Mainly no food on offer as keeping it simple (although they do have a proper pizza van turn up from Nonnas on regular occasions), brilliant range of beers and good company and service from staff and other drinkers. range of events in summer months also using their garden area brilliantly, from music to beer festivals. Very much highly recommend Andy and his crew at the King Billy!

Riverside Spice

The Three Colnes, Braintree
16/02/2019: We had a table for 16 and the service was brilliant. Friendly and happy to please .Food served hot and very good. Lots of choice on the menu , or they can change to your tast. Thank you for a lovely evening
27/01/2019: First trip to the riverside spice for a while...and it’s as good as we all remember. Food excellent and given the restaurant was packed on a busy Friday night, the service was excellent too. We won’t leave it so long between visits in the future!

Bocking Blackwater, Braintree
12/03/2019: I never imagined I would be reviewing a fish and chip shop but after my recent experience I decided it was worthy. Usually we buy takeaway fish and chips from our local chippy in Silver End but recent experiences have been poor. A friend recommended Oysters after a recent visit so we decided to give it a try. We tried the haddock and the rock eel and both meals were really good. Lovely crispy batter on the fish, not greasy at all. The chips were also really crispy. Both meals served with mushy peas. This was the best fish and chips I have tasted in a very long while and not that much more expensive than our usual takeaway. The owners were also very nice and friendly people. We will be back. Well done Oysters for a great experience.
06/03/2019: Best chip shop in town. Fresh chips cooked to order, unlike many chip shops in town which give you the one sitting there for a while. Food always very tasty. Keep up the fresh cooking 😊

Chop Bistro

Braintree Central, Braintree
09/03/2019: Once again an amazing afternoon spent at the chophouse with the most atentative staff I have ever encountered. They had everything I needed being a coeliac and helped in every aspect, not to mention the ever so friendly staff all the way though my visit. I have been here many times and will definitely return!!!!
09/03/2019: We have had such a great time a the chophouse tonight celbrating my friends 34th birthday (I know 34!!! Old isn’t it?) we had the endless Prosecco lunch served by the wonderful Daisy! She is an amazing member of the chophouse team and would highly recommend visiting this place! This is the 3rd time I’ve been here and can’t fault this place. Our time was made so much better being served by daisy who is so welcoming, attentive and so freindly. We will be back 100%!

The Red Lion Inn

Three Fields, Braintree, <20£
19/03/2019: Booked to eat here at 3pm for Sunday lunch. Arrived at 2.15pm to a very warm welcome. With a lovely wood burner alight, the pub was warm and cosy. Bar staff were excellent and it was busy but comfortable. Got a drink and told the wait for our table wouldn’t be too long. The table was soon ready, even though we were early. Had the most scrummy roast dinner. It was hot, fresh, beautifully cooked and plentiful. I will definitely be having Sunday lunch here again in the very near future. If you are looking for a fabulous roast lunch, look no further. Really, really impressive. Well done Finchingfield Lion.
18/03/2019: We were staying in the area for the weekend and visited the Finchingfield Lion on saturday evening to watch the rugby and have some food. Cozy pub with the fire burner on, very welcoming and helpful staff and delicious food! The table we sat at had been reserved for later on but the staff let us know in advance and we didn't feel rushed out. We would definitely visit again when we are in the area!

The Bell Inn

Hedingham and Maplestead, Braintree
10/03/2019: The pub is a bit quirky with a few small rooms. We had a snack there and wished we hadn't.
03/03/2019: Great food, but very musty inside. If you like an old fashioned pub then definitely worth a visit. Not my type of place. But still very good food

Roundwood Garden Centre

Bocking North, Braintree
19/09/2018: This is an amazing place. The cafe is relaxing, clean and serves lovely food.
15/07/2018: This is a café with a difference. The decor is bright, cheerful and immaculate. The staff are friendly if not necessarily fast, but they have a great pride in their work. The food is delicious and carefully presented: the salad was fresh and varied, a huge mound of crisps and a perfectly cooked bacon and cheddar panini! Good coffee too.
