We called in on the off chance of some early dinner and I was very impressed by the quality of the food. I had a Brioch fish finger sandwich which came with superb chips, not greasy, but fluffy and well cooked to perfection. My accomplice had boeuf en daube (slow cooked beef) with mash and green beans. The food was very well presented and wonderfully tasty. We intended to have ‘cheesecake of the day’ (proper New York style cheesecake) but decided to save that experience for another visit. Some of the best coffee I have had for some time, and I asked for full fat milk, which they provided. The menu has 'dishes of the day' plus pizzas (which looked amazing) along with some smaller snack type dishes and sandwiches. The pub was relaxed and friendly with a good mix of clientele; plus a very well behave black lab! Great attentive waiting staff making it was an all round enjoyable early evening experience. I look forward to a return visit.

Fabulous Sunday roast, piping hot, plenty to eat with lots of gravy. Superb!! There are plenty of other menu choices if you do not want a roast. Our daughter had fish and chips, which she loved. The desserts were really lovely too! Very friendly, welcoming, and attentive staff. It's set in a small village, but we had to pre-book as it's so popular. We will definitely return and next time have a starter as well!

Our family (24 ) of us went for lunch to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The food was very good, my fish and chips were better than most Fish & Chip shops. Our party consisted of 10 young children who were served first and all together . The adult food arrived together also. The staff were very friendly and attentive. In fact the whole occasion was enjoyed by all. The staff did us proud . I would definitely have a family celebration here again.

My friend & I visited The Rayleigh Arms for the first time last Friday evening. The weather was beautiful & so decided to sit outside in the side terrace, it's a lovely area to chill out on with a drink & some food. We chose some tapas-like dishes to share nachos, padron peppers, chicken tacos & muscles. YES, we did over- order, but everything was so delicious we managed to eat most. We appreciated not being rushed by the staff, infact they were all very friendly & attentive. We both agreed that we would be returning there again soon & would thoroughly recommend

The occasion was the re-visitation of a former ‘ordinary farm worker’, at Lord Rayleigh’s Farms in 1959 (Dr Toni Aigner (Toni)), from near Munich, Germany, who had not been back to Terling - or anywhere else in England - for nearly 65 years! The Manager, Tyler, and his Assistant, Debbie, looked after Toni, my wife & myself as if we were VIPs. We could not fault Toni’s welcome back, to his former ‘local’ pub of his 1959 farm working days, in any way. The beer and cider were wonderfully East Anglian and the food served was ‘more-ish’, indeed. Fish and chips, in the case of the males, with crispy chicken tacos for Mrs Bradshaw. For dessert: Toni had apple crumble & ice cream, Mrs B ice cream, and banana split for myself. It will not take another 65 years before we all return to the Terling Arms. And, indeed, all three of us will be going back there for Toni’s final lunch in England next week - on the day that he returns to Germany from nearby Stansted. One can be sure, however, that Mrs B & myself will be revisiting Toni’s former ‘The Monkey’ hostelry many, many more times after we say ‘Auf wiedersehen’ to him at London’s third airport!

Family of 10 meeting up for a catch-up and Sunday Lunch. I did book well ahead in view of the number of us and paid a small deposit, and confirmed early on the day booked. We arrived to an absolutely packed pub, but were seated promptly, drinks order taken, menus left. Placed orders and all drinks and food arrived in a timely fashion. Food was excellent and substantial. Staff were very polite and helpful, and service timing was spot on. . Great atmosphere. A good time was had by all of us. Thanks Rayleigh Arms.

We regularly eat at the Rayleigh Arms as it is local to us, and have always had great experiences here with the food and service. We wanted to review it as we hired The Long Room to host a birthday event and we had a great time! We were able to pre-order our meals which meant that everybody got what they wanted on the day, and, despite there being a large number of us in a relatively small space, the staff were great - friendly and accommodating even though it must have been very hard to cater to us and not much room to move about (especially since we moved the tables when we weren't meant to). We also had guests with severe allergies, and they always cater to them well. Tyler had also been extremely helpful before the event with the arrangements, even replying on the morning of the party when we had to cancel a couple of meals due to illness. We even had our wedding reception here in 2021 and hired half of the pub. It was FANTASTIC and we should have reviewed it on this occasion at the time. Debbie went above and beyond to accommodate our wishes, which included a live band, flowers and decorations, and the delivery of a wedding cake. The area we used was blocked off well and they set up the room beautifully for us. We ordered pizza with a range of sides, also to accommodate different dietary needs, and it was perfect. We really recommend this pub for a casual pub lunch/dinner, but also for private or larger events too, although it is probably a good idea to communicate with them beforehand if you are planning to eat with a larger group as they can get busy which affects the meals available as they do sell out - a risk with a popular venue though, and as the food is fresh and delicious, we don't see this as a bad thing - better to sell out than have lots of food to freeze and reuse because it's not being eaten!

On a recommendation we booked a table for 4 to Sunday Lunch & we weren’t disappointed. All four of us opted for roast dinners of lamb or beef which was delicious & well portioned, the roast potatoes were excellent and there was a good selection of vegetables. Desserts were equally good with a good selection to choose from but get in quick as some had all been served but then it was late almost 4pm by the time we had our desserts, I can personally recommend the Apple crumble. OMG Last week, a very good friend of mine, who lives locally, suggested that we spend an evening at The Rayleigh Arms in Terling because the food and drink are exceptional and she was not wrong! The pub was so exquisite and we had such an enjoyable evening here. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and a beautiful bottle of Malbec, which went down so well. We then ordered a pizza each, my friend recommended the pizza because she said it tastes amazing and is made in a woodfired oven and moreover, made fresh on site too! I am not even exaggerating, but this was the best pizza I have ever eaten in my whole entire life! I ordered a goats cheese and caramelised onion and my friend ordered a meat pizza. The dough was beautiful and fresh, and not too doughy, it had just the right amount of texture but without feeling bloated! Then we ordered a cheese board, with a beautiful homemade chutney along with crackers. This was beautifully tasty and well presented and a beautiful range of cheese and all for good value too. I even told the landlady Debbie, that its a shame, that I do not live around the corner, otherwise I would be in here everyday , in which she laughed. When I was talking to Debbie, she was really lovley, friendly and welcoming and it felt like I had known her for years. Her son Billy was also very charismatic and full of charm. This is a beautiful pub that does excellent food and drink and in a marvellous location surrounded in the beautiful village of Terling. This is also a covid safe place too. I highly recommend this pub for everyone to visit.

The pub is set almost ontop of the essex way walk, so if you are doing this, it is a must stop. Freindly staff, and set right in the heart of a beautiful village.

The Rayleigh Arms is a wonderful local pub to us, we've visited many times, mainly for food. Every meal we've eaten there, whether it was breakfast, lunch or dinner has been delicious.Their Sunday roasts are to die for. Such friendly staff who are always so welcoming and can never do enough for you. It's the perfect place to stop off for a bite to eat and drink when you're in the area.

A delightful pub with very charming and attentive staff. This was our first visit to a pub since lockdown and I’m glad we chose The Rayleigh Arms We had the homemade pizzas which were delicious followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice cream (also lip smackingly good ). The staff wore masks at all times and were great at explaining what the system was for ordering. They worked really hard to make sure that everyone had an enjoyable time.

Really enjoyed our visit here today. Turned up without a reservation and had a selection of starters which were all spot on, particularly the scotch egg which is one of the best I have had with runny yolk and crispy panko breadcrumbs. Our boy had a kids sausage and chips which he loved. Great service from Terri, so welcoming - anyone with kids knows how important it is to feel welcome when going into a pub as you never want to disturb other customers enjoying their lunch. The decor is also superb, sparkly clean and perfectly judged. Proper pub with well kept ale but also a fine and unpretentious good value food venue. Can’t wait to go back and try the blade of beef with mash and buttered veg or one of the roasts!

We recently had a 50th birthday party at the Rayleigh Arms and were blown away with how fantastic the evening went. Even though there were two other large parties going on at the same time, we weren’t kept waiting at all. The food was wonderful and came in very healthy portion sizes. The staff at the Rayleigh are first class and Helen our waitress was just perfect. We are regulars to the pub and would recommend it to anyone. The Chardonnay couple

I visited today with a friend to have a light lunch. The pub has seen a welcome transformation since opening and is cosy and welcoming, the bar staff (Helen and Rita) immediately came to greet us and provided prompt and friendly service throughout. The food choice is fantastic; on this occasion we opted for a simple sandwich but there was a set menu option, along with pub classics and many other dishes. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty and the chips were a delight, fluffy and crisp, I only wished we’d order a bowl each instead of sharing, next time! Thank you for an enjoyable lunch, we will be back!

What an adorable place ( when can I move in ? ) . The food was lovely, we really enjoyed it, the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming with fabulous friendly staff. Being surrounded by gorgeous gift items and trinkets was a great way to shop at leisure.. I absolutely love the uniquely decorated summer house play areas and fun designs incorporated into everything to produce a fabulous vintage fete effect.

Unfortunately we don’t really have anything good to say about our experience today. Service was poor, not attentive, very slow. Cutlery not particularly clean, glasses grim. Fish batter soggy, everything under seasoned and not particularly warm. Restaurant was a little colder than we’d like. Expect a lot more for these kind of prices. Second time we’ve visited. First time just for drinks, and even then bar staff kept disappearing for a natter down the other end and was waiting to order just a few drinks. We’re not ones for complaining. But with things as slow as they were, felt if we did we would have ben there forever. So best just to pay and pop off home.
