Proper pub and proper grub !! What gem !! Keep it up Colin!!

We visited this pub for dinner and the owner sadly told us the pub is closing down. The kitchen was closed and aside the owner, no-one was in there. Incredibly sad as he told us the Landlord was evicting him, with no reason given. Disgusting behaviour for a gentleman in his retirement years. He has 2 months to find somewhere to live. I felt very sad once we left, as he was there by himself. Such a shame as it had such good reviews, hence our visit.

Amazing food with outstanding attributes of a small village pub

Food was good except potatoes served were raw and unedible. Staff apologized but didn't do anything to fix the problem. Had they of taken the potatoes back and replaced them with properly cooked ones, I would of given 4 stars but they lack resolve skills.

Been taken over and what a fantastic place the food is amazing, the owner is lovely and run by an amazing team of staff! Had food a few times will be returning very soon!

Food was cold,definitely not all home made, my wife had to have her plate on her lap as tiny tables not big enough for 4 people. The curtains were hanging off the rails,bar sticky/dirty,freezing cold inside. No tables laid,it was mother's day. We were the only people in the whole place. We will definitely not be returning!

Has the best wings and service around

Went out for a Sunday roast with my parents and brother, I had a lovely pint and an exceptional roast! I would definitely recommend a trip here! 👍🏻

The food was very tasty. Large portions. Roast beef delicious. Restaurant seating increased, light decor throughout. Staff very attentive. Good atmosphere. Dog friendly. Will come again.

The Food is really excellent, service great and COVID-19 rules followed, feel safe when visiting. Great pub Buzzing atmosphere tonight at the pub, Curry night and live music. Very popular pub, booking a table for food is a must.

Nothing is too much trouble for The Plough in Birdbrook. My husband has just come out of hospital and wanted a Sunday Roast, he wasn't strong enough to go out to the Pub. Jackie and Russell kindly delivered a delicious 😋 Roast Beef Dinner for my husband and myself. So tasty, excellent size portions and blazing hot Even tho it's been transported to our house in this cold weather. Thank you

Last minute solo table pre booking for Sunday roast beef dinner. Size perfect with a bit of everything. Even nice surprise of things I never have with beef....but it worked great. Tiny bits of bacon, stuffing ball, cauliflower cheese and sprouts. All went down with a lovely pint. Friendly, a proper hidden gem.

We have had 2 roasts at The Plough and we were very happy ( enough to go back for more !) . The servings were more than generous and I am happy to say a wonderful selection of vegetables too ! Very tasty and tasted like moms roast dinner . We had to wait awhile but would put that down to food being freshly made and the food vouched for that ! A cosy old pub with an open fire in the dining room.. need to book for a table .

We had a dinner party for 14 of us and we weren’t disappointed. We’d pre-ordered and as soon as we walked through the door the party started. Our drinks were handed to us as and when we got there, we had a long table which was beautifully decorated and the food was fabulous. Service was brilliant and we’d certainly go there again. Many of us have eaten here recently anyway in smaller groups and found it to be as good as ever.

Big thank you for a fabulous christmas meal, food was all home cooked and so much of it !! Staff were so friendly, would highly recommend :)

Thoroughly enjoy eating at this pub with the family (including our Jack Russels). Always very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to a meal tonight - just the two of us for a change. Highly recommend a visit.

First time visit and I'll definitely go back as the food was great; proper pub grub. Plenty of vegan options - including pie, lasagne, burger - and dessert too, oh and perfect portion sizes. Great service and really friendly people, but Ronnie the pug was our favourite host! Very doggo friendly, cosy country pub. Not too far off the beaten track.....just a note its not actially Halstead, its between Clare and Haverhill. Definitely recommend.

Went for Sunday lunch today, lovely home cooked roasts, lamb and gammon cooked to perfection, both very tender. Warm and friendly welcome, staff were great. We will definitely return and quite regularly hopefully.

Pub was busy but the food was well worth the wait excellent service great value for money.

Excellent food at a reasonable price, if you’re looking for a dog friendly pub then this is the pub for you. They have hired a young chef who is very passionate about what he does and this shows in the quality of the food, the best chips that I have had. Everyone there is very friendly and I can imagine this being a busy pub after restrictions are lifted, looking forward to visiting again soon.

Amazing local country pub With A great atmosphere. The food is to die for with their Jalapeno Popper Burger being my favourite, and their sunday roasts being a close second. Great place for a meal with your family.

Amazing staff, amazing food! Went for a Sunday roast this week and it was stunning, the staff are very friendly and the pub was laid out very well to allow for social distancing. We have eaten here before and this time took friends with us who loved it too, they even booked in for the famous burger night which are held on a Wednesday. A true village pub with a great atmosphere, good beers and wines and friendly locals too! Highly recommended to anyone!

Lovely warm welcome today from the landlord and the other friendly punters. Good range of drinks, and menu looks very reasonably priced. We intend to return very soon.

This is a really lovely little pub in the charming village of Birdbrook. The beer was good and very well kept, the staff were friendly and it was a pleasant place to sit out the front in the sunshine enjoying a drink. Don't forget to duck for the low ceilings - this place is very small inside.
