Let's get the negatives out of the way first: The chairs are solid wood making them uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time and inevitably lead to cramp in my knees unless I keep shifting and stretching. Also the 'two courses for £29' is a bit of a bait-and-switch as there are few items on the menu which do not attract a supplement, ranging from a fair £6-£8 for some of the starters and mains, to an eye-watering £15 for lamb and £25 for surf & turf. Even though it's a bring-your-own restaurant it still works out a lot more expensive than one which sells alcohol. Belfast prices for a Bangor restaurant? On the plus side there is a great atmosphere in the restaurant, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. The chef's signature dish of Blackened Monkfish on a bed of Prawn Risotto is one I would highly recommend, and it's worth visiting Café Essence for this alone. I tend to visit only for a special occasion when I don't mind splashing out a bit (or when the kids treat me for my birthday). Overall verdict: good, but expensive, reserve for a special treat.

Great little find. We randomly ended up heading to Bangor and needed somewhere to grab some lunch. Found Tuk Tuk via Google maps. What a lovely place. Great service, lovely food, well priced.

Always love coming here. Booked on the day (saturday) in the morning online, no fuss, in under 1 minute! Very impressive. Food is always delicious, and the staff are always super helpful. Atmosphere can be a bit boisterous depending on the time of year (hosts work and christmas parties as example, large family birthdays, etc). It's great if you are in one of these groups, but not if you are there for a quiet family meal as the language and 'enthusiasm' of some of the parties can often go unchecked. This, to me, is the only thing they could do better as I have been here very often and keep coming back

4 friends for lunch and always found The Ava great. We spent over £200 ....hd lunch laughs and tears, as my Sister is ill and we all needed a chat. We were told to be quiet, by a young guy behind the bar... Really.... the place was dead very quiet Then told our table was reserved.... can we leave. Lovely little spot, reasonably priced and staff are so accommodating. Most importantly the food was delicious will definitely return if back in the area.

My friend and I were here today for lunch. Service was fantastic, quick and prompt. Our waiter was pleasant and even moved us to a window seat when it become available. Thank you:-) I had the smoked Haddock as pictures show, my friend had mini mixed grill, he said it was delicious. We shared a desert of toffee sponge- it was ok. We both had coffee to finish- mine was baileys coffee, very good! Can’t wait to come again. Thank you :-)
