Dear all at Monkton Barn, Where do we start… WOW, AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL are just some of the words that spring to mind. We are just floating on cloud 9, our day was everything we could have ever dreamed of and you made it happen. Our budget was limited but you treated us like royalty, every member of your team has gone above and beyond for us, the communication and organisation was just incredible. The food… incredible, every single one of our guests complimented on the food, it was perfect. The venue looked absolutely spectacular and we honestly cannot thank you all enough for making our dreams come true. We recently held a birthday party for my wife at the Three Horseshoes and Jamie and Dave from Two Hangry Chefs managed the booking of the venue, plus catering, hiring DJ etc. We were really happy with the service that was provided and the party was a great success. Jamie and Dave were on hand the whole night to help with making sure everything went smoothly and the buffet food provided was superb. We thank them both for helping us to make this a really special party!

The food here is absolutely spectacular. This is the closest to Thailand you will ever get in the UK! The food is extremely authentic, fresh woth plenty of flavour and good portion size. I loved Thai cuisine and I have tried a lot of restaurants across the country, including the really expensive dine in ones, but this by far is the best!

Really cute pub! It was very busy when we visited but staff were friendly and efficient. There’s a beautiful and spacious beer garden at the front and the food was fantastic.

I made a reservation for a group of 7 for lunch, and we were immediately impressed by the pub’s charming ambiance, both inside and out. Being dog-friendly, there were a few well-behaved dogs around, each on a leash, which added to the relaxed atmosphere. The staff were warm and attentive, taking our drink and food orders promptly. We all opted for the Sunday roast, but unfortunately, the wait time for the meals was longer than expected—by the time our food arrived, we were already on our second round of drinks. The food itself was tasty, though a bit more "al dente" than anticipated. That said, the prices were fair, and we still had a pleasant experience overall. In the end, it was an enjoyable meal, though the pace could have been a bit faster.

I would like to provide an update regarding my previous reviews from 2021 and 2022. During those years, the Harbour Fish and Chip Shop was truly exceptional; I would not have considered going anywhere else. However, in early 2024, the shop changed ownership. Although the new owner maintained certain standards for some time, my recent experience has been quite disappointing. In January 2025, I visited the shop and was surprised by the quality of the food. The fish had a bland taste, and the batter, when fried, came out an unappealing off-white color. It seemed as though cheap oil was used, which affected the overall flavor of the meal, including the chips. Because of this experience, I do not plan to return, and I have shared my disappointment with others who have also expressed their reluctance to visit again after experiencing the same on there visit, Many of them live in Flackwell and feel the same way. I hope this feedback helps others avoid wasting £23 on two fish and chips that did not meet the expectations set by previous reviews.

Everyone in this pub is lovely, it’s a wonderful little community asset where you can pop in have a chat, read a book, enjoy quiz, comedy, music or even art evenings as well as something tasty to eat. Big shout out for Lanc. sauce flavoured crisps too - it’s the attention to detail that counts!

Yum, Yum, Yum We have eaten here a few times since they came under new management just before Christnas. We have enjoyed every meal we have had here. The food is freshly cooked and really tastey and value for money. We held a family party for 21 people in Feb (including 4 vegans) and the meal from start (pre-ordering for that number of people) to the end of the meal was nothing short of amazing. The staff are so welcoming and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. The landlords are striving to make this the place to be. It is well on its way to that. They and their team are awesome. We will definitely be back again soon as we want to give their steak night a whirl. We may even venture back down the hill to their other pub The Coach House where we have also had amazing food and service.

Inedible roast lamb, tough, chewy and full of gristle. Both plates arrived swimming in gravy. Complained re lamb and was given a £4 discount. Ridiculous, will not return. Staff however were lovely.

This Easter we ordered from the axe and compass home delivery, and I must say it’s unreal!! And that’s an understatement the food is lovely definitely will be going a lot!thank you

What a fantastic find! Such a great place, and all staff so friendly and keen to give us a good time. An extra special mention to AJ who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We were a large party of 19 but were all looked after. Delicious food. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back.
