Everyone in this pub is lovely, it’s a wonderful little community asset where you can pop in have a chat, read a book, enjoy quiz, comedy, music or even art evenings as well as something tasty to eat. Big shout out for Lanc. sauce flavoured crisps too - it’s the attention to detail that counts!

Had lunch here with the extended family to celebrate Mother’s Day. It’s a small pub with garden & car park at rear. Given the day the place was very busy & although run off their feet the staff were very friendly, service was a bit slow though. Food on the whole was good although one main course had to go back as the beef was undercooked. No major problems though, so nice food, rebellion beers friendly staff it’s worth popping in.

We had the loveliest experience at the black lion. I rang ahead, as 3 of us are vegans, to ask if they had an option for us for the meal. The lady was so lovely on the phone and said to tell us what meal we would want to eat from the menu and the chef would happily make a vegan version for us. We all picked a main meal, but when we got there, they had got so many lovely extras. They made sure there was vegan mayo (which was an amazing surprise) and they got in a vegan crumble so we could all have dessert. They even got us vegan chocolates to have when they brought us the bill. Overall the food was amazing, the service was lovely and they made us feel very welcome. I would definitely recommend.

We have now been here twice for a Sunday roast and both times we were greeted warmly, given attentive but not overbearing service and treated to such wonderful food. The portions are ample but can also be boosted with the addition of side orders, the cauliflower cheese was a hit with us all. Dessert selection catered to all tastes but sticky toffee pudding was the clear winner for us. We certainly can’t wait to come back and introduce friends

What a find! We started going here for the beer which comes from an excellently managed cellar. The variety of wine available is also excellent, and considring the landlord used to work for a vinyard in France is evidence of this - point to mention is that not ALL the wine is French, but the choice is extensive. Whe had a meal there last night, and the Rib Eye Steak was probably the best steak we have ever had - it is sourced from just along the road and couldn't be more local. It was cooked to perfection, and melted in the mouth, I'm salivating just thinking about it! I will most certainly be going there to not only drink, but eat again. Everyone in the bar were lovely, and the atmosphere is also very welcoming. I can't recommend this any more than I have here, and want more people (but not too many) to discover this wonderful gem in Bourne End.

Never been there before but was recommended the Sunday lunch by a friend. Accommodated 7 of us on Mothering Sunday and glad we booked an early slot as they were, to be fair, a little overwhelmed as it became very busy as the day wore on. Nevertheless the food was excellent, surroundings very atmospheric with roaring fires. We were asked how many mums there were and on being told there were 3 we were presented with complimentary large glasses of Procecco which I thought was a very nice and unexpected touch. This delightful pub is just that. A pub that sells very good and very well priced food and local beer, not a fine dining experience as some on that Sunday seemed to expect. Remember you have to order from the bar!

14 of us visited this pub, which is very close to where we live. The staff were friendly, accommodating and very helpful. They had set up 2 tables (one for adults and one for teenagers) in the room, to the right of the bar. There was enough space for everyone. Due to the fact that it was Christmas, they had a set menu with enough choices so that we could all have what we would like. The sea bass was fantastic, as was the chocolate pudding. For the 4 of us with drinks the bill was £89, which I thought was great value. I would certainly recommend this pub again. It was busy with other locals that we knew and the atmosphere was pleasant. They have a pool table for those who like to play, an open fire in the main bar area and plenty of parking at the rear. The pub has changed hands many times over the years, but it would seem the current owners have definitely got things under control. It is situated on the Marlow Road, so it is not hard to find.

Food absolutely excellent. Atmosphere excellent. Wine and beer excellent. Service excellent. Price excellent! We had travelled to Windsor from Spain to spend a few days there, but we were getting a bit tired of the food and then someone tipped us off about the Black Lion, so we jumped in a taxi and went out to Bourne End. The journey was well worth it. To start, we had traditional pork pie with a really tasty salad containing pickled walnuts. It was so good that we had another serving before moving on to the main. Two of us had roast beef and one the roast pork. The meat was succulent and tender and the vegetables were al dente. The pub has a good range of real ales and a great wine list, with top-notch wines at retail prices. The service was akin to something that you would find in a fine dining restaurant. Andre is essentially a maître d' cum sommellier and looks after every detail. The local people were extremely friendly and the pub is great with children.

This is a traditional country pub with smashing grub! It is extremely good value and the quality of the food superb. The roast dinner was a choice of beef or pork and came with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, swede mash, green beans, and carrots.- all cooked to perfection and costing under £8. Two of us had a children's mini-roast, which was slightly smaller and on a small plate, but still a hearty meal for around £6.50. The chocolate fudge cake was such a generous portion we divided it for two slimmers!. With two drinks and two coffees and a starter of breaded mushrooms instead of a main course, the whole meal for four was £32. There is a snooker table in a separate room and a welcoming coal fire. There is a large car park at the back. Well worth a detour when in the Marlow area and the locals are very lucky to have such a pub on the doorstep.

Novel 1940’s decor, friendly service, but with it come a relatively high price £16.95 for a simple fried breakfast and cup of tea (photo below). I can’t see going back at this price sorry!!

We visited for a Sunday roast with friends and chose the venue as it was dog friendly. I don't think they could believe the size of the Irish wolfhound our friend brought! Excellent friendly service and good food. Very good value.
