The best restaurants serving Default food in Sandford South Oxfordshire South East

We were lucky to find this gem - lovely place to visit ! Everyone was so friendly- we enjoyed bacon rolls in the cafe and treated ourselves to lots of treats in the shop ! I would recommend a visit - please support this community shop & cafe !

We were looking to stay in the Oxford area, we settled on the Chequers because it ticked most of our requirements. Free car parking. King size bed, en-suite room not above a pub and not too far out of the city, etc. We took the bus. Accommodation in the city was/is overly expensive, some had very limited parking and there seemed to be a trend of not providing breakfast onsite. Positives at The Chequers; Easy parking, check-in painless. Room first impression appeared clean and well presented. Good facilities. Easy WI-FI connection. We pre-booked a table for that evenings meal. Restaurant was clean with a friendly atmosphere, open fire. Food was good. All staff excellent. Negatives. Restaurant is a bit over priced. Some dishes excellent, others not so much. Fridge in our room was noisy but easily sorted by switching off overnight. Minor issue. The flashing lights in the smoke detector above and facing the bed, very annoying. Noise from the road, really intrusive with windows closed. There seemed to be people coming and going at all hours in the gravel car park. Mould in our shower cubicle sealant and grouting. Water overflowing out of the shower tray flooding the bathroom floor. Only one cup of coffee provided in the price for breakfast, you could purchase extra coffee at £5.50 per cup. Coffee machine in our room made good tasting coffee, but only managed to make it luke warm at best. Would we stay again, probably yes. Despite some of the above issues the overall experience was good. Thanks to all the staff who do a grand job.

I turned up at 20:30 and nobody was there. I rang the bell and then knocked on the owners door (after being shown where it was by another resident) and no answer. I waited for 15 mins and still nothing so I had to find another place to stay. This is terrible service and I want a full refund.

Came out of my way with my family to the oxford sainsbury’s cafe to get a good meal we saw on the sainsbury’s cafe menu online to turn up and see completely different! hardly selling anything just “soup” and microwaved bread basically. let alone not much food for children or vegetarians. don’t come here.

Absolutely Superb food. Everything is cooked from the freshest ingredients. Been going there for several years and it never stops being the best food to be found anywhere. Delightful simple tiny pub where everything is done with integrity.

Popped in here for a birthday lunch. Food was delicious (fish and chips,scampi and chips,steak ciabatta). Welcoming staff and great service from Hannah S.

Vinimos aquí para cenar después del golf cubierto. Es bastante terrible ser honesto. No hay mucha gente cenando allí, pero el servicio era lento. Se habían quedado sin pan de ajo lo que parecía ridículo. Claramente hacen un comercio rugiente en deliveryoo etc, así que no estoy seguro de si eso tiene un impacto en los niveles de existencias. Los pudines de los niños eran risibles - diminutos. El brownie era literalmente 2 bocados pequeños y la supuesta olla de fruta que acompaña al helado era literalmente 2 cortadores de una fresa y 2 pequeños trozos de piña. Comida mediocre y cara. No volverá.

We were on business in the area and arrived pretty late but were greeted so warmly and made to feel welcome. The staff were more than happy to fix us some drinks as we sat by the roaring open fire. I wish we had time to eat because the menu looked delicious. We were shown to our room by a lovely Scottish lady who is a credit to the place. The room was really comfortable and warm with the heated floors. The bed was big and the sheets and pillows were nice and fluffy. The bathroom was a great size and clean s was the whole place. One tiny note there was a little smell but that’s just noticeable to me and my strong nose, so no big issue. We slept great and opened the window for some fresh air. The breakfasts were delicious. One full English and one smoked salmon with some great tea and coffee. I hope to come back for a meal one day

We had some small plates for dinner as we had a large lunch. We had squid, some mushroom arancini and bruschetta. All were good size for starters and very tasty, especially the arancini. Service was excellent and staff are very friendly. Fairly small menu but what they had on offer looked good and our food was good value.
