Popped into Saddlers to see what they had for a takeaway picnic lunch to accompany a long Pennine walk. Absolutely amazing choice of savoury mini-quiches, other savouries and cakes. Ended up with the Mediterranean vegetable quiche, the savoury Chelsea bun and a slice of Bakewell Tart. The quiche was delicious - lovely light pastry and packed full of vegetables. The savoury Chelsea bun was uniquely delicious - garlicky, buttery, cheesy and covered with a sprinkling of seeds. You must try this! I saved the Bakewell for later - and it was the best Bakewell I've ever had. Pastry just right - light, crumbly and gorgeous, with just the right proportions of jam and almond. The owners were lovely, there's a great atmosphere in the quirky and stylish interior, and when I'm next in Alston I'll be trying one of the breakfasts, which all looked delicious. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed one night at The Victoria while cycling coast to coast (23/07/21) The landlady Tien was fantastic, she was welcoming and helpful-even taking me to see a local cycle repair man to arrange to fix my bike (at 10pm!!!) despite the pub being jam packed during the annual music festival. The rooms although basic are clean, the bed comfy and shower hot-nothing else was required! Highly recommend this place for a top quality stay-it's not five star in the luxury department but the customer care is unmatched. We will stay again.

What a great night out.really friendly staff.lovely atmosphere fantastic food.they have an amazing gluten free menu which is actually made with gluten fee ingredients unlike some places we have visited in Cumbria.Very high quality ingredients in their meals.the gluten free garlic mushrooms are to die for, totally gorgeous.,the gf rack of ribs are out of this world.my husband had the mushrooms and Steak and ale pie and it is a proper pie,not just a bit of meat and gravy with a lid.Equally lovely.open fires plenty of space.couldnt ask for more.Thank you for a lovey evening.x

Lovely afternoon spent at Lovelady Shield Hotel for afternoon tea with my daughter. Gorgeous location and drive over from Hexham the tea was served in the front living room very private and cozy and the food was lovely and lots of it !! Had to box it up to take home , the staff were lovely and very attentive and have to mention how lovely and clean the ladies loo was !! Would recomend there was a vegetarian choice no problem and great value with unlimited tea and coffee for £18 per person.
