The best restaurants serving Default food in Waltham Abbey South West Epping Forest East of England

I added garlic dippers to my order instead of chicken strips by mistake which was my fault but then had called instantly once made the order to change it, I had to call 5 times before anyone answered, I was then told they couldn’t change it because they had already put it in the oven so I accepted this, once the order had arrived I realised they had got the order wrong & in actual fact had not even sent us garlic dippers at all so they could have changed them in the first place for chicken strips as I had ordered a deal bundle so would not have changed the cost, at this point I called the branch & was told they would now send chicken strips but was very rude & just hung up the phone, I then received a call 10 minutes later saying they now can’t send the chicken strips because it was not on my order, I then tried to explain it’s a deal on there website & they was also a option so it would not make a difference they became very argumentative & at this point felt they was just being awkward because they did not want to rectify there mistake, would not recommend using this branch especially don’t deal with them personally as are rude & hard to speak to, they could all take a class on customer service in my opinion being a business owner myself I would not have anyone of them work for my company

Update Perfect atmosphere this morning. The place is spotless as Christina is on duty. She works so hard and takes pride in making sure everything is cleaned. She wipes where others don’t!! Make sure you don’t lose her. Good job all. Well done. APR 2025 The restaurant is run by kids with no experience of what great customer service is. The management has no control and has no idea of training staff. The music is over-the-top loud and they will not turn it down! It's literally like a nightclub here at 6.30am. Apparently the overnight staff in the kitchen turn it up so they can hear it. Ridiculous. The toilets are always disgusting with leaking, water-less urinals. It has stunk in there for years! The good nature of the cleaning ladies are extensively abused. They are instructed to cover too many bases when they should be focusing on cleaning the restaurant. It's a busy place and I get it. However, the management needs to be better. Some lazy staff members need to be released.

The food was amazing as always, cooked to perfection and didn't forget a single item!!

Since I can remember in the 70's, this used to be the best Chinese takeaway for miles, unfortunately, now it's one of the worst! We ordered a takeaway for 3 of us for my husbands birthday, new year's eve. We placed the order at 8.30pm and received it shortly before 11pm! We appreciate they were busy but when the food arrived it was luke warm, the chips were dry and cold and the satay chicken looked like 4 turds in a foil tray... they didn't even taste like satay! The chilli beef was lovely though. That's about the only positive I can honestly give for this food on this occasion!

.went to de mangos to try one more time as our first time it wasn’t very good to our surprise new people had just taken over and boy where they excellent if you are visiting or live in the abbey you got to try it if they carry on like this they will smash all the other Asian restaurants/takeaways the food the staff all above excellent they even have a vegan menu running alongside the traditional one also they have a section in which they have their own dishes it remains de mangos for now but it will have a name change soon so watch out we highly recommend

Avoid this place at all costs. First off, the order of 2 chicken shish came 30 minutes late and they completely ignored the additional notes where I asked for no onions or chilli sauce, there's no point on you having that box if you're going to ignore the requests. Secondly, the food was so sickly and just not worth any amount of money... I called back about the wrong order and they said they will send a new one; which also came half an hour late. When I called to ask where it was they hung up on me.

I know I have put visited in. May 2022 but the last time I visited was back in 90s, & no later dates to put in. was visiting the area with my ex husband family & stop off at phillpotts, not sure if they still bake the scones on premises but they use to make the scones, & jam themselves back then The best cream tea I've ever tasted, shame they don't do a phillpotts in newcastle as I moved back to my hometown It was still owned by one of the phillpotts family back them, a remember a guy with dark hair beard & glasses , but I was in my mid 20s then in the 90s Recommend such a lovely place & I do recommend the cream teas 👌👌👌

Possibly the worst Thai curry I have had the misfortune to eat, it was uneatable, the chicken was hard and not fresh , the rice was hard, the curry was watery, Will not order from them again, avoid.

We waited over 1.5hours for our food and when it arrived it wasn’t worth the wait. The appetiser starters were soft and chewy (spring rolls, prawn toast etc). The crispy chicken was also soft and not crispy - very disappointing. We will not be returning
