The best restaurants serving British food in East Ayrshire South West Scotland

Visited Lamlash House for a festive dining experience with family. Niche venue with limited exposure/opening times and as such tries to cater to a finer dining experience than the location might suggest. More of a pop-up than a regular restaurant with limited events throughout the year. The festive menu did not deliver the fine dining expectations we attended for - nothing really stood out as exceptional, other than poorly cooked duck which was over, with an under-rendered fat layer. This highlighted attention to detail, potentially due to a full house that evening. The venue (main dining room) would benefit from some acoustic attention as the full room was just too loud (painful at times) from guests chatter which impacted the dining experience. Instructions to arrive for a prompt 7.30PM start were somewhat ambitious as things were slow to start. Service was generally excellent. If there had not been a 'discretionary festive service charge' of 12.5%, then they would have received more but severely irritated by this, that’s all they got. Either state it is included/excluded but don’t try and suggest it is discretionary once it has been added to the bill.

Ace. Keep up the good yummy work. Service fast, choice great and ices yay! Great to have this so close by. Maybe not so good for the waistline lol.

While touring Scotland on motorbikes we came across this beautiful little gem of a cafe , perfectly cooked quality food

This is the nearest location for hot rolls to my house. Its fine in an emergency, but their pricing is a bit random. Roll n Sausage is £1.80 extra bacon is £1, but they charge £3 because a Roll n Bacon is £2 and extra sausage is £1. Sorry if this is a bit too pedantic for some, but it annoys me. Tried their chips yesterday. I won't do that again.

Visited this cafe today, beautiful setting, lovely food and fantastic service. Even gave me a wee extra tub of ice cream for my dog! Will definitely return

Booked in for breakfast. Settings lovely and fresh. Bathrooms immaculate and clean. Staff very nice, food was well cooked and presented well. No issues with portion size or quality of ingredients. Very reasonably priced for a full Scottish breakfast. Choice of other dishes also appealing. Definitely return visit on the cards.

This place is in a different league. Went for birthday lunch on a busy Saturday. Customer service was very good. Menu had plenty of choice and most importantly the food was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Sadly once again let down by the food and drink. Clearly running the bar with limited stock and unable to fulfil the menu they offer. Trying to provide drink which was flat, twice!! Wine unavailable from a very limited list. On a Saturday evening having main courses unavailable. I ordered the steak and ale pie which I returned as it was more like chunks of beef added to watered down ale. Tasteless. It is a great pity as the staff are excellent and do not deserve to have to provide this quality of offering

First booked the Sorn Inn for an anniversary meal for 17 people and everyone (including children) loved the food. Have been twice more and will be back for the new set menu on Wednesday. Fantastic food and our host David was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Chef's menus are fine dining but at reasonable prices. Certainly our new place to eat out. Thanks David.

We booked a table for 26th December for our anniversary and although we have lived in Mauchline for a year we had not visited before. My husband had nachos followed by a pasta dish and tiramisu for desert I had feta and cranberry parcel followed by duck and then toffee apple crumble all the dishes were absolutely amazing, the staff were attentive and friendly it was faultless cant wait to go back.

We ate twice here and it was delicious and reasonable, with charming staff. Nothing was too much trouble; it was a very nice experience
