We were back in Helensburgh after a 2 year gap and had to return to The Upper Crust, believing it couldn't be as good and fun as last time. We were not disappointed at all and had a great evening along with the other diners. It is quirky and different, and the food is excellent with a good choice on the menu and specials board. The owners, Roger and Mary run it themselves, with Mary in the kitchen and Roger front of house. Roger is so entertaining and the whole experience is more than just a meal. We are normally private people, just wanting to enjoy our own company, but have never been anywhere else where you relax so easily and end up talking with fellow diners - all down to Roger and his manner. None of us there that night wanted to leave, and we all stayed far longer than expected - again, all down to Roger and his great company. It was one of the best nights we've had in a long time and we'll be back as soon as we can! Thank you Roger and Mary

We only had coffee but it was really well made and not too expensive. There was a small range of fresh cakes. The rest of the menu looked good. The café is next to the marina so very convenient for that, but it is worth stopping of you are driving past. At the time of our visit the café was open Weds-Sun only, which may be a business necessity, but it is unlikely to help the business grow.

We had lunch here today as the Continental was closed. We were pleasantly surprised after reading the bad reviews. I had a ham salad sandwich on granary bread. It was really substantial. Full to the brim with ham, lettuce, onion, tomato, cucumber and red pepper and only ÂŁ3.80. My husband had a fish finger sandwich which contained four fish fingers in a large roll. We had a bottle of sparkling water and the total came to less than ÂŁ10. Our order came in about ten minutes so the service wasn't bad at all.
