The best restaurants serving British food in Ashbrow Kirklees Yorkshire and The Humber

We had a meal in Grameen Lounge who are currently based in Shepherd's Arms. The food was excellent. We bought our drinks from the Shepherd's Arms service was brilliant throughout the night

Visited today for meal with family over, visiting from Manchester, £60 in taxis from Wakefield area, heard really good reviews over last couple of months but felt let down on our visit! Bad points;- Wasn’t advised on the reduced/ Xmas menu when booking! No usual menu available Service poor, 15-20 mins before drinks order arrived. 4 of our party wanted belly pork starters but no belly pork available! Doreen’s black pudding turned out to be a cheap version of black pudding ( which I had to ask to be removed from bill) Starter plates not taken away so no room on table for mains One of the garlic mushrooms starters was missed Had to keep asking for drinks order to be taken. Lamb main ok but quite fatty. Waiting staff looked miserable when asking for something! Good points;- Mains quite good, presentation good. Overall for £270 for this visit I wasn’t overly impressed, not sure if it’s just the time of year, but word of mouth goes a long way.

Shocking lack of awareness in the dining department waited over 10 minutes and nothing not even asked what drink we would like The staff are far more interested in their regulars and if course the cash cow builders from the site next door Certainly will not be back

We had called in weeks earlier to ask if they would be open when we were doing a sponsored walk. They phoned us the day before, got the cook in specially and provided us with a first rate lunch - speedily! Thank you!

Nice food just something needs to be done about parking it is extremely limited considering how busy it is. They need to open a drive thru branch at the old Harvey’s drive thru in Waterloo

Good atmosphere, good food. Good range of none alcoholic drinks. Lots or parking. Was pleased I could bring the dog with me. The treats and dog water bowls were really appreciated.

Family meal. More bar staff needed and some did appear somewhat stressed. I ordered the rack of ribs, they tasted lovely but were no where near hot enough. Good JD sauce. The corn on the cobs were inedible, boiled within in an inch! My husband enjoyed his beef burger, but overall, for the price of food, it’s nothing special. Most of the party were just ‘erm, it was okay’. Good price on a bottle of red wine and the food came out as we ordered, we they wanted us to pay at the bar due to party size. Main male staff member greeting as we walked in was friendly.
