The best place for breakfast. We travel from Southampton each time to enjoy it. The quality of food, the service and the whole place is amazing. We absolutely love coming back and we have reassurance that the food will as superb as each time . Coming back tomorrow for a lunch and cannot wait.

We stopped off for an early evening meal.. Very warm welcome by the lady at front of restaurant. Hildi was very attentive and friendly and an asset to the restaurant. The food was great especially the fried hake. My only slight disappointment was the fried white bait.Being so close to the sea I would have thought it would have been fresh, and not prepared. All in its good value and great food.

Warm and cosy place to come to. Teas and cakes as well as nicely cooked food. All in the heart of the village.

Had lunch here whilst walking out to Hurst Castle. Good food and fantastic service. Sat by the window with a great view of The Needles on the Isle of Wight.

Asked for a cream tea for two, cost £10 each.We were served a mug of tea,two small scones, prepacked cream and jar of jam.Not value for money,so said we were not happy and recieved a refund.May I suggest you serve cream teas properly,ie a pot of tea and real scones. We enjoyed our cream tea in a cafe on the sea front.

Popped in today and we were not let down. A chilly day was soon forgotten when we saw the log burner in full flow. So cosy. Great selection of drinks on offer .and the food was delicious. Let's not forget the service which was excellent. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit here and I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the spacious car park. The building is very interesting and the bar steward was able to tell us all about it’s history. The bar is in the entrance hall with little seating available. The Library and Billiard Room are nearby with ample comfy seating, but for those who like to drink at the bar, it is not ideal. The building itself is very interesting. It is from a past era with extensive wood panelling and some very spectacular high ceilings decorated with intricate plaster work. The men’s toilettes were pristine and very well appointed. Sadly, it was very cold in both the bar area and in the dining room. The manager/server sat at a table in the dining room working on his lap top and taking a series of phone calls. Even when we were seated in the dining room he continued his activities at times rather loudly. We had to attract his attention to take our orders. The menu offers a wide range of choices. Our starters were good and enjoyable. My falafel salad was very tasty and looked very attractive on the plate. Our server was friendly and helpful and the food arrived promptly and hot. Our main courses were received with mixed reviews. The fish pie was shallow and with little fish. The chicken dish was rather bland and greasy. The two burger eaters left empty plates and enjoyed the burgers and the fries. We did not stay for desert but did do justice to two bottles of a very tasty Chateau Neuf du Pape. Was the evening value for money? The atmosphere was stark, it being cold and devoid of background music. The service could have been better, but it was a Wednesday night with few customers and only two front of house staff on duty. Some main courses were underwhelming and so overall I did not feel that the evening was good value for money. The location has so much potential to become a really great place to eat but perhaps I’ll try again in a year or so.

Building and Rooms lovely. Room was excellent in terms of size, appointment, cleanliness and comfort of bed (unfortunately it was a bit stuffy; noisy when kitchen fans were on; and, strangely, no-where to hang towels). Unfortunately, the Downstairs (bar and Restaurant) is tired and has a 'grubby pub' feel; e.g. crockery not clean, 'restaurant' waiting staff were super friendly but not knowledgeable nor efficient. Barman actually quite brusque and pulled cork from £30 bottle of wine out of sight of table and plonked on the table like a bottle of ketchup.
