Amazing food the fish and chips was massive and the best we have ever had. Better than any chip shop will definitely be back, such a cozy feel to a traditional pub

Ever since we discovered this place following our daughters wedding at Colshaw Hall round the corner and owned by the same family. Living close by, we've had many lunches at The Dog and its always a great atmosphere with good food and wines as well as friendly dogs in a separate bar area. It's in a lovely area and although it's not cheap it's always busy with a good mixed clientele. Our daughter booked it for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary and told the staff that it was a special occasion. I wasn't looking for any special favours and we got our usual seat, but I was disappointed for my wife that not one member of staff mentioned our anniversary. We called by Colshaw hall en route to reminisce about the wedding and met the owner who seemed delighted to see us and that I'd remembered his and his daughter name after 9 years , since the wedding. Old school I guess. Sadly my wife doesn't want to go back to The Dog. Pity but like the owner of Colshaew Hall it doesn't take much to make people feel special..

Our order was forgotten, no apologies when we eventually queried it. Girl gave me a dirty look, and when coffees came one was banged down on the table and coffee slopped in the saucer! My friend had to return hers as it was v lukewarm! No napkins provided and had to ask twice for glasses to pour water in! Untrained or v tied staff?!!

Great staff and service with a landlord who cares about his patrons. Amazing gardens, with an outdoor bar, surrounded by nature. Highly recommend!!!

Rang up in advance to check the pub served food outside. They did. Arrived at 6.30 and ordered cheese pie and chowder. After 40 mins I went inside to ask where the food was. The reply was that the cheese pie took 40 mins to heat up. When I said you need to make people aware of the delay the young girl just shrugged it off. 10 mins later I asked another person where our order was. It was being plated up. What a suprise. Apparently everyone had arrived at once. This was not true as plenty of empty tables and we have been when it was far busier and received excellent food and service. We were offered a hot drink or pudding which we declined as the whole birthday treat for my husband was now ruined. To add to woes the food was indifferent when it did eventually arrive. Shocking indifferent service.

Great food and friendly helpful staff. Enjoyable visit and will return again. Would recommend a table in the restaurant as light and airy.

Suddenly, there are signs up saying 'No Dogs'. This is a country pub, close to a park popular with dogwalkers. This seems a very backward step.
