Dined here at the start of 2025 - absolutely delicious seasonal menu, lovely service. Make sure you dine here before their chef gets poached by a much more expensive restaurant, they're immensely talented. It is a pub that welcomes families, so dine later if you find loud children an irritant.

The Dun Cow offers an amazing menu every day of the week, catering for all. We love to go out for Sunday lunch but so often you can only get a Sunday Dinner, which we don't want. The Dun Cow serves an excellent selection of sandwiches, served with a delicious side salad and chips. They do serve wonderful roast dinners as well, if that's what you like. The staff are always so welcoming and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The roaring fires in winter make it warm and welcoming, whilst the lovely outside seating area is great for sunny days. The Service was spot on with at least 3 waitresses and the manager all very friendly, attentive and helpful. I had Lamb Henry and the wife a huge fish with chips. The food was really tasty and the best pub grub I've had for some time. I also had several ales which were excellent. We Will definitely return, can’t fault it. 5/5

Lovely setting just a few miles outside Knutsford. We're to big eaters so I ordered a starter for a main and my wife small fit and chips. I had chicken wings which I felt overdone.I thought they were good value but only ate half and asked to take home what I left..They came wrapped in foil, not big deal but I probably expected a small container as in other places. My Wife thought the chips were overcooked, but I thought they were great. Driven passed its to times and its easy to park with lots of outdoor space for warm weather. Not sure well return.

Old country pub on a sharp bend in the road, close to Knutsford. It';s a Robinsons pub so you might like their beer you might not (Hopnik is about the best IMO), but the food is the real draw here. My steak pie was proper (as in, not a dish of casserole with a lid), loads of lovely tender & tasty meat, good chips and particularly good veg cooked properly (as in, not much). One of the best pub meals I've had in a while.

But someone had to Greek salad, which it wasn’t. Iceberg lettuce a couple of tomatoes a couple of olives and a bit of crumbled feta. Very disappointed that they called it a Greek salad. And tiny portion and dribble of dressing.

We were here for celebration of my husband's 80th birthday - 7 members of family. Very good service and care, and excellent food. The staff couldn't do enough for us, and this included lighting the candles on our cake and serving it up instead of dessert. Our plates were so full of the main course, no dessert could have been fitted in after! We'd had generous portions of various items on the menu and all beautifully cooked and served. We needed somewhere to eat on our way back home from the RHS Bridgewater as the food on offer there at lunch was not considered fulfilling for us. We drove past the Dun Cow as it was on a corner and cars were close behind to allow us to slow down and turn into the car park, so we continued until we could turn round, we past a garden centre down the road and thought we would try that instead. But our instincts said return to the Dun Cow. We are so pleased we did. It was late in the afternoon and not sure if they would be serving food, but to our delight they were. We were shown to a table, it was quite busy even then, so that speaks volumes. My wife ordered the Breast of Chicken, and I ordered the Pork Loins. The wait for the food was well worth it. The food was amazing, it was well presented and tasty. The price was reasonable too. The staff were very friendly. And the pub was well kept. Compliments to the Chef too. Well done team. Great food in a good location within the Peak District. The food was very nice and the service was excellent. Located close enough to Ludd’s church so it was on the way back to Manchester for us. I had the blue cheese Burger which was a huge portion and was excellent. Came with chips. Alisia had the steak pie with mash and peas which was also really good from the small bit I tasted. Slightly on the pricey side, but you pay for what you get sometimes and this is one of those times. Would recommend

We just returned from a one night stay at the Black Swan. It is a beautiful restaurant and the rooms are very cosy. We were on their Hunker Down package which included early check in at 1430 (normal check in is 1630), a half bottle of champagne and a therapy kit with bath salts / body moisturiser and body scrubber. Our meal was delicious and it was impressive how many of the ingredients were grown in the kitchen garden or sourced sustainably and locally. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable and put us at ease. It was the right amount of courses and we were well fed by the end of the dinner. The breakfast in the morning was also delicious with home made juices, yoghurts , toast, pastries and a full English. It is not cheap but I think the quality is certainly worth the price. My only one gripe (and it is small) is that I do not think the scallop course should have been an upsell of £25pp. I think that should have been included. Cheese courses I don't mind as up sells because not everyone likes them but that was the only one thing that I did not like about it and it has been mentioned in previous reviews. We would return.

This pub has always been one of my favourites in town, it is a beautiful building, has some really great staff and great ale choices. However it appears that now I have a child, my time in the pub will have to be limited. I understand a policy of 'no children after 9pm' etc but I didn't realise the pub had a complete ban on under 12s. It is a quiet Sunday afternoon, the lovely courtyard was empty and we had just enjoyed a walk with our six week year old who was fast asleep in his pram. Knowing they have a courtyard hatch, we thought we would have a quick quiet pint on a Sunday afternoon. Sadly the manager had to inform us that children are not allowed. If I'm being pedantic it says on the sign on the door 'No children inside under 12', I didn't realise that would also include the empty courtyard. I do to an extent understand kids running riot unaccompanied but I also believe that the Black Lion is not that type of pub to attract unruly children's families. Businesses need all the support they can get currently, so I find it odd they would enforce such a rule on a quiet Sunday. Thankfully the Crown didn't have such a rule and is also a beautiful old pub with good ale. Please reconsider this rule during the daytime's when it is quiet 👍 Edit: To follow up the response, I note that signage has been updated to specify inside and outside, but this took place after my original review so clearly feedback was taken on board.
