Average food more like a pub, raw onion in the scotch egg bhaji, bang bang cauliflower poor, fish and chips were tiny and fish dry. So over priced for below average food.

We arrived in good time for our reservation and were shown to our table and a drinks order was placed .This took some time to arrive as the waitress said she could not find one of the wines which we ordered, this took her some 15 minutes to fulfil our drinks order, when she returned with it she took the food order, returning some time later to inform us that an item was unavailable so she was immediately informed of a second choice, only to be told some minutes later that it to was unavailable so a further re order was made .One hour twenty minutes after our arrival we had our starters we paid for what we had had (drinks &starters)and left the restaurant without having our main course. further to this the music was far too loud and conversation was almost impossible. Overall we had a very disappointing experience.

Wouldnt recommend. Went in with couple of friends on a Saturday. Music was so loud that we could not talk to each other. Waitors were rude and could not be bothered to serve. We left without having dinner after spending 15min. I have been following up to get my deposit back and every time I call, I am promised a call back which hasnt yet happened. Also met others who were sat outside waiting for drinks for over 45min. Absolutely horrible service. Will not be going back.

We stayed here for Valentines day, see separate review of the hotel, would not recommend staying. The food however was great, the service was good, we booked an overnight package and received an email to let us know that we had a table reserved for 4.45pm on Valentines Day ! I emailed back to say that was a little early, but did not receive a response. We checked in and explained about dinner, we were told that they were not even serving at that time, communication was a mess. When we arrived to eat, we had been added to an already busy evening, but the staff were friendly. I did order a drink which was forgotten, the food was good and there was live music, but it just didn't have any ambience, like the hotel, just a little strange. We ate breakfast and the food again was good, but it was freezing, again there was a calor gas fire (I'm sure this would not pass Fire Regs).

We arrived for a birthday party afternoon tea which we had been organising with the venue for several weeks. We'd ring a head to confirm the booking & we'd rung ahead and pre-ordered. In both cases we were told everything was fine. On arrival our booking wasn't on the system. We showed our booking reference email. We were told they could fit us in at 4pm; we'd arrived for our 2pm booking. The waiter tried his best to sort us out , though we (a party of 7) we're disappointed. They discounted our food to make up for the mess. Not a great first visit. Not sure we'll be back. I'd have been disappointed if we'd paid full price for the food as we've had better elsewhere. Hopefully this is just a one off for them.

Excellent and unique ambiance: it's an old court room, with high ceilings, a glass dome in the middle, and walls covered with paintings, images and mirrors. Staff equally excellent, and the unexpected bonus of live music: two girls, an acoustic guitar and 60s songs. My wife and I thought we were in the TV show 'First Dates' except that the Barristers is more charming and elegant. Absolutely lovely. I gave five stars only because you cannot give more.

Wrote this review for the Courhouse restaurant then realised that Barristers was the place we had afternoon tea. Confusing as in same building. We booked the beat the clock tea but were clearly not expected although alarm bells had been raised when I didn't receive promised confirmation e-mail. 25 min wait for tea. Initially shown the lunch menus and having repeated again we were there for tea we were still not shown the selection of teas in a box until I asked. Some sandwiches had slightly stale bread but otherwise tea was ok. Waiters gave us no history of the place and one said he had just started a week ago. Surely he would have been given a history of the courthouse at staff induction? Waiters completely indifferent. Overcharged at the end of the tea so all in all a very poor experience Shame as we had really enjoyed it on a Taste of Knutsford (served by manager and treated really well) and I had returned with friends. Won't bother again.

We enjoyed a family lunch but not because of what was presented to us. No doubt that the surroundings were very tastefully appointed and the table service very good. The problem was the sparse menu of very uninspiring starters and a meagre choice of mains. Given that I was always going to have a classic Sunday roast that was on the menu did not cause a problem but it was a choice of one. The meal was served barely warm and was at best acceptable. A further uninspired dessert menu added to the building sense of disappointment. We will not be going back.

Now, let’s tell you about our evening in Knutsford where we were invited to this restaurant that is situated in an epic building. The outside view is breathtaking, especially at night time – it may even look a little ominous and daunting if you didn’t know that you were about to enter a really lovely restaurant (& hotel in the making). Then you walk in and feel like you’re in the Great Gatsby with eclectic art on the wall. An interesting fact about the art is that it features pictures of celebrities that have been arrested, which we thought was a nice touch because the restaurant is in an ex-Courthouse :)

It is with regret I write this review as I was a returning customer. However, last week I booked online for a family meal. On arrival, I was met and my reservation was checked. We were then taken to our table but it hadn’t been set up for dinner or been cleaned from previous diners. Apologies were made and we were ushered aside, presuming we were just waiting for an alternate table as only a few were occupied. A couple of minutes later, we were told that the staff member had spoken to his manager. He had decided to close early, we shouldn’t have been able to book and the exit door was opened. Appalling customer service!

Ate here early on a Saturday evening and greeted warmly by Mr Varga, who looked after us well, all evening. Our first table was by a very warm radiator but on our request he immediately moved us to a better table. My starter of Trout was quite a small portion but my wife's Tart Tartin was enjoyable, though technically not a Tart Tartin. Our mains were really good. I had the lamb, my wife had Duck. The desserts were really good - Sticky Toffee; and Mango and Coconut. The Cheese Plate was good, and extra biscuits provided immediately. Water served at our table, and very good cocktails. The staff were really helpful and friendly, especially Mr Varga, as previously mentioned, and the atmosphere built as more people arrived. Very reasonably priced.

Firstly a lovely setting with pleasant and courteous staff. Ambiance and atmosphere really nice and this was our second visit to the Courthouse. Arrived with a party of 4 order two bottles of white wine Sancerre {2 x £65} arrived warm, offered a chilled ice bucket and had to wait until drinkable. Starters arrived, to say the Goats Cheese starter which we were recommended was poor , would be doing a disservice to the word "poor". Bland, too much cheese, tasteless base, nowhere near enough Jus. Anyway, mains arrived 3 ordered lamb 1 ordered Guinea Fowl, the 3 lamb arrived cold and all were promptly returned. Came back 10 min later barley warm but by this time we'd put this down to a bad experience and just finished off the warm wine and left. We did try one dessert which was not bad. All in all absolutely terrible fare, staff in the restaurant badly let down by inept & tasteless cooking, needless to say this will be one "restaurant {use the word loosely}" we will not be returning too, shame as the setting and location is wonderful.

Initially I liked the idea of what they had done with the old building but, on closer inspection, between the many photographs and mirrors, that line the walls, the decorating was a bit drab with a matt emulsion painted on (certainly where we sat) lining paper that was not exactly applied to the walls in a first class professional manner.

I visited the Court House and had a meal in the Barristers Restaurant yesterday when a friend took me out for a treat. From the outside, the building looks very imposing, almost intimidating, just as you would expect because of it's previous life as a court. Once inside you might expect it to have had all its original and historic fittings and furniture ripped out by the renovaters - but no. Everything is in place and has been skilfully and sensibly re-purposed (horrible term, but quite accurate). Although there are seats in the lower part of the room you are very likely to have your meal in the gallery which once housed the judge and officials, the jury and the press. The dock has been beautifully and minimally modified to become the area where drinks are prepared. It is fascinating to sit at your table and work out just how the court would have worked. The walls have been decorated with vast arrays of skilfully hung mirrors and pictures. This has been done so well that I couldn't help but think of the way in which the Royal Academy hang the thousands of annual exhibits in their public competitions. Many pictures have been especially commissioned and have the theme of featuring characters who have been found guilty in past years and decades. One of these features the robot dog from 'A Close Shave' - so don't expect all doom and gloom. There is a lightness here and a love of both history and entertainment.

A comprehensive drinks list but I'm afraid the bar staff did not know how to mix drinks or advise on what goes with what. In fact they ran out of a certain Gin. It took ages to be served but the food is of a good quality and well presented. Our main concern was the noise, it has a high ceiling and the noise travels, so don't go there for a quiet meal. I hope it improves but don't hold your breath. At present I would not recommend this venue.

Fantastic venue, a fabulous building with with an amazing history. This was explained to us my the wonderful, attentive staff. The food was was of a really high standard, the twist on the fish & chips was great! Looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu on our return on the rooftop terrace.

We booked a table in Barristers restaurant yesterday evening and had a lovely table for 2 positioned where the Judge would have sat! The restaurant is lovely -quirky mix of old and new with a central bar and pictures and mirrors everywhere , with candles on the tables, it had a lovely atmosphere , although we felt the music a little too loud -I suppose it was a Saturday night after all !

We came here on a whim and decided to stay for dinner, we had planned to go elsewhere but after looking around the rest of the venue we really wanted to stay and try the food.

A last minute booking for dinner in the old courthouse. Staff were friendly, but for a Friday evening the restaurant lacked any atmosphere, 10 dinners and some folk having a drink outside. The quality of the food was good, especially the starters, main courses were slightly disappointing. We did not stay fir dessert or coffee. It seems they are concentrating on wedding events and the new rooftop bar, opening soon. This could be a great setting for dinner if only the could get more customers in. Time will tell if this restaurant will stay the course. Will try again in nine months time to see if it has changed.

What a find! Absolutely amazing place(but we nearly missed it because it is not well signed) The owners have done a great job of converting the old courthouse into a truly individual restaurant/function room/hotel. Quirky, tasteful and interesting. Many of the original features have been integrated into the design.

Friday night cocktails in gorgeous surroundings. Excellent service price average, cheaper than other restaurants in Knutsford.

Had Sunday lunch here, it was very nice, the roast beef was really good and plenty of it. All the staff were great and nothing was to much trouble. For four of us it was £78 for starters, mains and drinks including wine so good value for money.

Stopped here for an early evening drink, fabulous atmosphere, very friendly attentive staff and a fantastic venue. Good value drinks too. Sadly the lavatories let the venue down, particularly the lavatory paper!!!!

Had heard good things about this place and was looking forward to the visit. Did not disappoint. Chose from the Sunday Lunch menu and the highlights were the Lamb Kofte starter (big enough to be a main course), the Sole (excellently cooked) and the Sticky Toffee pudding. The restaurant space was light and airy and decorated with walls full of quirky art. Staff were kind enough to give us a tour of the two event rooms, both were magnificent. What a setting!

We have visited many times for dinner, as always excellent food and friendly service. From a small but imaginative menu we can highly recommend the rabbit starter and monkfish. Super steaks. Great value for good food and service. We will definitely return.

Little reluctant given reviews about Mothering Sunday buy dinner on Friday evening with friends was far from disappointing. We were made very welcome, service particularly good. Treacle salmon followed by a perfectly cooked medium steak with great trimmings and a nice cheese board to complete a well prepared and served meal. I think the menu lacks sea food, salmon starter and monk fish main but heavily weighted to meat. Highly recommended for a good night out with in great surroundings.

we had lunch here, very interesting building and decor. Friendly and helpful staff. Not a lot of choice but the food was reasonably good albeit very small starter portions. Has great potential and a lovely room for weddings etc.

1. Lovely big room with high ceilings, nice décor. Layer up though as it felt chilly at times.

We booked the new afternoon tea menu in advance for a Mother’s Day treat which required us to prebook savoury and sweet options our party required. We were very excited to be visiting for the first time too.

Family of seven had afternoon tea on Mothers Day. To start with the positive, the afternoon tea was pretty good and the venue is lovely. The service did leave a lot to be desired, without going into detail there were several issues and the duty manager was very apologetic. We will revist as the food was good and if the service is improved it really does have the potential to be a great place.

Visited Barristers for lunch on Mother’s Day and had the two-course menu. Five of us had the roast lamb which was excellent and my daughter had the roast chicken which she loved. The portion sizes were large but not over-facing.

Took a friend for afternoon tea. She is GF and I am vegan, so had checked in advance they could accommodate. However, rather than give us separate servings, instead they served us a completely GF+vegan afternoon tea tier. (As opposed to Mere, that served separate tiers to accommodate different requirements.)

I've eaten here twice. The first time, we had the afternoon tea and it was really good. We recently returned for dinner and came away disappointed. There was simply not enough flavour. It seemed that someone was trying very hard to go up-market but falling short. All 4 meals were over-complicated and (relatively) bland.

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

We stopped off here for early dinner after a day at Quarry bank mill. We hadn’t pre booked and they managed to fit us in. Friendly service and the food was wonderful! I had rotisserie chicken with the roost special sauce which would highly recommend, absolutely delicious. My husband had a burger which he said was very good. My son had a pizza from the kids menu which was wood fired and great quality. Milk shakes were insanely good!
