The Bells of Peover isn’t just a pub—it’s a place full of history and character. During WWII, it was used by the British Army to discuss strategy against the Germans, and you can still feel that sense of history in its walls. But beyond its past, this place truly shines when it comes to food and atmosphere. From start to finish, the food was simply outstanding. The lamb was the star of the show perfectly cooked and packed with flavour while the soup was rich and full of depth. The fish cake? Absolutely sensational. Every dish felt like fine dining, executed with real care and attention to detail. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and full of good vibes, making it the kind of place where you can unwind and enjoy great food in great company. Whether you’re visiting for the history, the setting, or the food, The Bells of Peover delivers on every level. Highly recommended!

Lovely location with allot of history. Food exceptable but the cheese pie wasn't that fantastic, very soggy. Two local chaps typify what I detest about the Cheshire set "Oh I have six acres" the other "Oh I had a ballooning business etc" certainly not great conversationalists all "me,me,me"

What a shame to see one of our favourite venues not up too standard . Visited last Sunday. Ordered the roast it came within 4 minutes. Should have returned it, luke warm ,obviously warmed up. We made a reservation for 1.30pm for lunch. They brought our lunch to the table at close to 4.30pm. You might ask why we waited so long. Shortly after we arrived we ordered a drink. We asked about our table and they explained they had a problem in the kitchen and they offered us a free drink. We found a comfortable place at the bar and took the drink, so after the first drink still no table and we took another drink, and then another one. I can't quite remember how many times we did this. Eventually the table was available. The meals were delicious. But it wasn't the plan my wife had made for her birthday. It was however quite an experience

Have had dinner here several times and have never been dissatisfied! Food is of incredible quality, and what pub food should be - hearty, comforting, soul food. Wine is exceptional and the staff know their wine lists well. The staff are friendly and genuine. Cater brilliantly to allergies - best coeliac fish and chips I've had in years. I can see some reviews here are moaning about slower service. Behave. This is a beautiful pub, a landmark of the Cheshire plain, steeped in history. It's not fast food. Have a pint, talk to the locals, read a book, look at the artefacts. Enjoy it!

While the food at this establishment continues to be exemplary, our recent experience was unfortunately marred by subpar service. Upon arrival, we waited nearly 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order, and when the opportunity finally presented itself, we opted to order our food simultaneously to avoid further delays. Regrettably, the water we requested arrived only after we had finished our meal. The situation did not improve when it came to dessert. After ordering both desserts and coffee, we endured another 15 to 20-minute wait. To our dismay, the coffee arrived a full 10 minutes before the desserts, which, when they finally did arrive, were unceremoniously placed on the table without any courtesy. Overall, it was a disappointing visit, particularly given that we have been visiting for years. While the kitchen continues to impress, the service on this occasion fell short of the standard we have come to expect.

It took 20 minutes for the waitress to come over and acknowledge us and take the drinks order. We had to ask about the specials , soup of the day etc because there was no explanation. I don't know if they were understaffed or something but it was hard to get the attention of anyone. Food came out quite quickly but it was lukewarm mostly, I had to send the chips back as they were warm not hot. One duck portion was fine, the other was very tough and again arrived lukewarm. The risotto was bland. The food used to be amazing but in the last 2 visits it has been a bit of a disappointment. It's still a nice place for drinks in the summer but food is on par with wetherspoons.

A a bone-shaking drive along ‘The Cobbles’ takes you to this fascinating building of 1839 (it looks older). Seating is well spaced out and service is good, though there were a few waits. We both had duck and cranberry pâté to start, then I had chicken breast and my husband had haddock, which the waitress accurately described as a whale. There were two chicken breasts, which I certainly didn't need! Obviously no room for pudding. Anyway, dinner here provided an agreeable change from the hotel where we were staying for the Tatton Park Flower Show.

We used to be regulars so were looking forward to returning. Menu had been cut down to the bare minimum, it's a bit bizarre that in 2024 they didn't have a proper vegetarian main course on offer. The menu on the website isn't what's actually available, we wouldn't have gone had we seen the actual menu. On a fairly quiet thursday, It took nearly an hour for the food to arrive and when it did the haddock was cold (they replaced it promptly) and about 30% of the steak was fat and inedible (we didn't complain about this but should have) Until the chef realises that vegetarians exist, sorts out their cooking and gets a better meat supplier, we won't return.

I was part of a group of 7. We had pre ordered as requested and were having mains only. Our table was booked at 1.30pm and we arrived slightly earlier. We were shown to our table at the allotted time but it was another 10 minutes before we had a drink order taken and a further 10 before they arrived. Our food arrived at about 10 past 2. The food was plentiful and pretty good. Our waitress was either rushed off her feet or just not friendly, either way we seemed to be an inconvenience. She also had the annoying habit of referring to us as ‘Guys’, despite there being one female amongst the group. We were offered desserts but it was pointed out that the next party for the table were here and they would need the table back in 15 minutes. We made a quick decision and kept the order easy. For an establishment with a great heritage and obviously well kept, the service was slow and not particularly friendly or welcoming considering the price.

My bill for 2 lunchtime special menu burgers ( £13 each) and a pint and half of Henry Weston cider was £50.05. After querying my bill with the bar staff the manageress was called and I was advised I had been overcharged and I would be refunded. Approaching over a cobbled lane, the Bells of Peover came into view basking in glorious sunshine with a rather natty open top sports car from yesteryear parked in front, finishing off this picture perfect country pub scene to perfection. I'm pleased to say that the inside dining room, the staff and the food all simply built on this first impression. The dining room was bright and cool, nicely furnished and very clean and tidy. The staff were universally smartly turned out, pleasant and helpful. The food was fantastic. Being a bit of a traditionalist, I went for the roast beef dinner, I was presented with a decidedly large plate full of roast beef, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, mash and assorted vegetables (sorry I can't recall what they were other than delicious - red cabbage I think was there, but I can't guarantee) Pudding was Sticky Toffee pudding with ice cream and one of the better sauces I've had in a long, long time. A cappuccino (decaf) finished of a wonderfully satisfying meal. I'll definitely go again.

The pub inside is old but so nicely decorated with comfortable chairs & tables, with a small bar area . It was lunch time so we just wanted something light to eat so we chose the sandwich which came with soup & chips, it was really delicious as homemade tomato soup. There are other meals you can have which they reduce down for lunchtime so really excellent value as they looked delicious. The staff were friendly & very helpful with good service. The pla e looks and feels lovely and the food tadted really good. The problem was service. After waiting for 20 mins to place just a drink order, it wasn't great. We then waited over half an hour after our mains were cleared to try and order dessert. We eventually gave up, took a long time to track someone down just to pay. There were empty tables so not exactly busy. The gluten free options were really limited, I was told it was always this way on Sunday, goodness knows why. The one started I could have had run out so we didn't have starters. All in all, it was a big let down which is a shame because when we did get food, it was lovely. Just a shame it took nearly over 90 mins for one course.
