Beautiful atmosphere and great service let down by poor quality food. The steak pie was unpleasant as the pastry was hard. I suspect the gravy was what added far to much salt to the meal. Still could feel the salt in my mouth the next morning. Felt very dehydrated and almost hung over after one small small glass of wine. The mushy pea's where cold (always concerning) the chips seemed reheated and slightly over cooked. Lovely place for a dink as the atmosphere is worth the trip!

We visited this pub for lunch for my son's birthday. Initial impressions were quite good, although there was a feint whiff of cats. We sat at a corner table in the dog-friendly area which had recently been vacated by 2 ladies, but no one wiped the table for us, and the ridges in it were a bit crumby. We all ordered the 'Legendary Homemade Handcrafted Steak and 'Wobbly Ale' Pie' which came with chips and 'not so mushy peas' and a little jug of gravy. The chips didn't look great, the gravy was obviously out of a packet (my pet hate!), but the pie did look 'handcrafted'. However, the pastry was incredibly thick, but there was a decent amount of tender steak inside which was quite tasty. The downfall though was that it wasn't hot, the peas were at best lukewarm, and as I got to the middle of the pie it was cold. I took it back and then my husband found that his was also cold, so he returned his too. The waitress asked if my son wanted to return his, but as he'd smashed up the pie and added the gravy it seemed warm enough - however it turned out to be cold, but as he'd almost finished he didn't send it back. The waitress didn't take away the gravy pots we'd had with the first serving, nor did she remove my son's plate, who had finished by the time our replacement dishes arrived. She was very pleasant though and all the staff seemed nice. Altogether though a pretty ruined birthday lunch. They didn't offer a token reduction in the bill either, and we didn't ask for it which perhaps we should have done. Not somewhere we will return to in a hurry

Stopped here for a weekend lunch with a friend. The place was bedlam - but a wonderful kind of bedlam. There were thousands (YES thousands) of bikes in the carpark - and I felt underdressed as I seemed to be the only one not in fancy dress! The place was packed to the gunwales and so was all of the grass and the outdoor seating. we were lucky enough to be seated indoors just prior to the hoards arriving. We ordered food which came very promptly and was of excellent quality. once we had consumed our mains - and even after the place exploded with so many people, the service for desert was still good, despite the bar being six to eight people deep! I cannot imagine this to be a typical weekend for this establishment - but if they can cope so very well with this astonishing event, a quiet meal here must be easy-peasy for them. Well Done we are eager to come back and maybe see you in quieter times.

Having the bar tender shouting over the room that the tab is not settled! as we were leaving, my 79 year old mother had to go to the bar across several listening people to prove via showing the till receipt that she actually paid the bill! Then walking back passed everyone!...embarrassing to say the least! Won't put us off this place, but again, it's extremely embarrassing.

This is a lovely pub and good atmosphere, friendly staff but that's where it stops, sorry guys!! Unless something changes u r not going 2 keep customers coming back as the food is not up 2 any kind of standard and tastes old and reheated items, my partner and I had a sharing platter consisting of sausages scampi, whitebait, prawns pate scotch egg and bread. This came out 5mins after ordering wow how so fast! Taste of everything was weird and clearly not fresh although the bread was nice, that was sent back hardly touched and nothing was said then fish and chips and a chicken burger came out, fish was ok, chicken burger tasteless and chips like they were from yester year, again most of this food git sent back and nothing was said, still charged a bill 4 food we hadn't touched or were challenged over, no concern 4 customer service, a joke really,

This is a cut above the ordinary pub lunch fare but lacked any real punch. The pate was plentiful but pretty strong and harsh on the tongue and the bread that came with it was warm and floppy and not crisply toasted which was not nice. I had crispy fish curry, which was a huge disappointment as the curry sauce is like tinned tomato soup with a touch of curry powder in it, the fish was a little tough and didn't taste of much. Overall, not the best pub food I've had. It looked better than it tasted, sadly. The decor and setting were lovely though, and I imagine that in summer it's a lovely place to drop in and have a drink. Perhaps we chose the worst off the menu.

We used to have lunch in this pub quite a lot, but recently not so much as the place is always so busy that you can't get a table. We tried our luck today and were delighted to find a few tables available... Unfortunately that's where our happiness ended. The food was so bang average. My wife's sausages were really dry and far too hot (she thought that they had been made yesterday and then microwaved) and my sandwich was nowhere near the standard of our last visit, which was fantastic. Such a shame. Will definitely think twice before visiting again.

As always this little pub never fails to impress. We arrived at 1230pm to an already full pub. We were seated quickly by a really lovely lady at the front of house. We ordered 3 roast diners, 2 beef, 1 lamb and I think it hot too is about 20 minutes after ordering which was incredibly fast considering how busy they were. Food was incredible, as always. There was like a spiced red cabbage alongside the beef that was unreal!!!! The seasonal veg was cabbage and peas, carrots and swede mash. All cooked amazingly. It was very loud today due to how busy it was but we don't mind that to be fair. Can not recommend enough

This is the definition of a great pub. The staff are friendly, the service is fast and efficient and the food excellent and well priced. The menu is very relevant and on point offering exactly what you want from a pub. Everything is home cooked - no mass produced catering company reheats here! Also worth a mention is that they still do a fairly comprehensive menu on a Sunday. Roasts are available but it’s not at the expense everything else.

There is no booking but we were lucky there was room inside because it was raining. Within minutes of our arrival the place filled up. The kitchen dealt with my dietary requirements, and my sisters vegetarian needs easily, and the food was well cooked and tasty. A lovely village pub with great food and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy food and drinks in the summer. In the winter, the cosy and historic interior is just as welcoming and there's a fireplace to enjoy. We visited for Sunday lunch and as well as the traditional offerings there were well crafted more modern options. They had small versions of roast dinners available for the children as well as fish/sausage/scampi and chips. The adult portion fish (haddock) and chips was delicious buy could have done with a couple more chips. There are good walks through the fields nearby and there is cycle parking available. Parking on the road is limited and can get busy but was ok when we visited. They have a good selection of real ales on tap as well as Lucky Saint for a low/non-alcoholic option. Veggie and vegan options were quite limited and they didn't have plant milks available when we visited.

Very poor Sunday menu if you don’t eat meat. The option was a spicy sweet potato dish. This would normally be served as an accompaniment not a main course . On asking if there were alternatives, the answer was blatantly no! Very disappointing - surely in this day and age we can do better than a potato dish??
