A group of us travelled last night for a roast based on recommendations. Even though there was no chicken or pigs in blankets left, most of us opted for the beef and that was delicious. No veggie option for one of us which was a shame but they adapted and gave some spinach as an alternative to the meat. Cauliflower cheese was 10/10. The staff accommodated us as a larger group and were friendly. Drinks were great (we had wine and beer). After we had already paid and left, we realised that they had overcharged us by adding on an extra bottle of wine that we didn’t have. I rang up and they provided a refund immediately. Overall really nice pub and roast dinner. Would love to go back to try the rest of the menu.

Poor !! I came from overseas to see family for a special birthday which had been booked by a family member well in advance. I found ignorant staff, we were left waiting 50 minutes for starters and had to complain, when they finally arrived, poor value and just ok. Main meal came with a further lengthy delay, again, had to complain as two people who came in fifteen minutes prior was served lunch very quickly. By this time we had been waiting in total 1hr 20. Not worth the wait, arrived with tough cool meat and one plate of no meat just veg was charged £18.95 as a beef lunch, disgusting, there was hardly anything on the plate. Roast potatoes 'old' clearly not fresh and sat all day in kitchen. Now then, when this place is on point it's good but this time just awful and ruined the outing. No apology. We paid and left and won't be going back. If there was some form of customer service and empathy it would have been appreciated.

Been desperately wanting to try here for a while after good reviews. Our plan was to book for a meal and then whilst there get a family member (who has a child) a gift voucher for their birthday. Visited website to book for an alert to pop up saying “we do not provide high chairs”. This screams “we don’t want children”. Completely put off which is a shame. Won’t be visiting! I’ve never visited anywhere where seating for children is not provided.

We went for Sunday dinner and the food was very tasty and seasoned nicely. My only disappointment was that they could throw in a couple more roast potatoes, as two was a bit miserly. It was a busy day and people were being told that it was a 45 minute wait for food... which is absolutely understandable. However, when we ordered desserts and they had not arrived after over 30 minutes of waiting, that was poor. It doesn't need a chef to scoop some ice cream out of a tub! I'd probably return and hope for a bit better next time.

Before visiting, we checked out the menu on the website and had an idea of what we wanted. I do this because I'm lactose intolerant. Upon arriving, we were told that the two things I deemed ok were not available. They had been so busy earlier on both inside and outside. That they'd been overwhelmed. So the options were narrowed, and I chose a pork sunday dinner. It was a tough, massive chop that was overcooked. The vegetables were really tasty, the roast potatoes felt that had been sitting around since early doors and kept warm somewhere. The Yorkshire pudding was an over inflated, tasteless piece of nonsense. Not very good really

Really can't say enough good things about our visit here. We came as it was convenient for the Mallory concert in the church over the road. They were running a drinks offer for ticket holders for a free gin, which we didn't realise included canopes as well. We tried the beef brisket hash, venison on toast, and something with crab - all of which were brilliant. The George Mallory pale ale was lovely, as was the Spirit of George gin. Our meal was excellent too - we had fish and chips, and the Nepalese lamb curry (a Mallory centenary special), followed by lemon posset, and chocolate truffle cake. Servers were all friendly, service was prompt, food was all delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect both in the afternoon sun and in the evening for another drink after the show. We would definitely go out of our way to visit here again, and see why it merits the praise it's had in awards.

Got a drink given three menus and ordered lunch pie of the day. Food arrived and stated to eat our pies of the day. Oh my god it was very cold inside. We deliberated and called over the waiter who apologised and took our food away. Later our food arrived and was told the chief probed with a thermostat. This should have been done the first time. Other people were also complaining about food and stated where’s the usual chief?. Will not be going there again .

Didn't take my own advice about the 3 rating on the food standards website and brought friends for an early lunch. Woman at the front of house made it clear that as we hadn't reserved a table it was going to be a problem but it really wasn't and we declined the available table and sat outside anyway. There are actually two areas to sit out so you can arrange to be in the sun or not. Food was nice, however we had a toddler with us who was admittedly running around the restaurant but we were told quite rudely that kids are normally not allowed after 1900. They already knew we had a toddler at the time we made our booking. While I appreciate it's not ideal having kids running around, staff should be at least a bit more understanding and there's also a better way to let customers know about any issues or concerns you have.

Nice pub but rude unhelpful staff. If you're going just for drinks and not food, don't expect a warm welcome! I took my 81 year old mother for a Sunday afternoon drink and despite there being several empty tables near to the bar as we tried to take a seat we were immediately asked by a member of staff what we were doing and told we couldn't sit down! I told him we were getting drinks and were abruptly told that every free table was either booked or for meals only, and if we wanted drinks we would have to sit outside (in the cold!). The staff were so blunt and dismissive. We therefore sat outside for one drink but understandably it was too cold for my mum so we came back inside and some of the same tables were still empty (why we couldn't have sat at one until the booking arrived I don't know) and I asked again if there were any free tables and again was told that if you're not eating you can't sit inside. Nevermind if it's too cold outside for an elderly woman! A "pub" should ensure that there are several tables set aside everyday for those just wanting drinks. Otherwise be truthful and describe yourself as a restaurant only!! I've never been made to feel so unwelcome and disrespected anywhere.

Very nice surroundings ,very clean and top quality hygienic toilet. Friendly staff Smooth service Fresh food, which is cooked very well,to a high quality. The menu has the main stay pub favourites, like fish and chips, however the fish is large fresh, and the chips are from fresh potatoes. I couldn’t identify any pre cooked pre made veg or meat, like boil in the bag stews etc. All was cooked on the premises fresh. The rack of venison was perfect as a treat, but would also recommend fish of the day. The deserts were great soufflé, with milk ice cream, and the sticky toffee pudding, soft and fresh. It would take a good few visits to go through the menu before one runs out of choices. I also think they have recently changed the menu,in the past few weeks, which is good as most restaurants never change their dishes.

This is one of my most favourite pubs ever. The quality of food and atmosphere are a real treat….usually. However after visiting on Mother’s Day I was left feeling disappointed with the quality of the roast dinners served to our group. I have to say I have specifically mentioned the roast dinner as one of my family had the fillet steak and she said it was one of the best she had ever eaten. So the mistake was ordering the meal that I would say the majority of people go for on a Sunday. The food was bland at best and luke warm to add insult to injury. The waiting staff although pleasant enough seemed stretched and I totally understand this was Mother’s Day so what did I expect, but for what we paid for the meal I expected much better. Two of my daughters had option which they said was not good at all. There also seemed to be a real upstairs downstairs divide re atmosphere (and warmth) and won’t go back if we were upstairs again. It seemed to me that opening the upstairs to guests wasn’t supported enough to produce the usual quality of food in the roast dinner. Really disappointed, but lesson learnt from my side, go back to avoiding a meal out on Mother’s Day.

We saw a member of staff plating the cauliflower cheese with his fingers and then licking his fingers before proceeding to place more cauliflower cheese on the plates with the same fingers that he had just licked. This is NOT the type of hygiene and service you would expect from any restaurant. We saw him do this with a number of plates that he was dishing up. I turned up to be told there was no highchair for my child and no facilities for him. I was beyond baffled and quite taken a back in this day and age. What kind of establishment doesn’t provide a highchair to a child? Or even any baby changing facilities. This is total discrimination. If you allow children to attend then why not cater for them? I have since gone on to read reviews and multiple guests have made this point regarding lack of highchair or child friendly facilities. Since 2017? So 6 years on the management have decided to ignore every review regarding this and maintain their stance of not providing one? Sounds to me like they have some kind of problem with children if they don’t want to take on board all the feedback provided regarding this? Isn’t it common sense….

Great country pub. Lovely setting, really friendly. Great food and drink. We had something from the light lunch menu. Very nice. Dog friendly and big enough car park. Definitely worth a visit.

Terrible experience and left in tears. Arrived early and sat in bar are to eat. We where under the impression that these tables where not available to book. Had a lovely meal, but before we even ordered deserts the manager came to our table no apology and told us we had to leave in 20 minutes as the table had been booked. There are 4 other tables in the bar area, all being used for people not ordering food. I had just ordered a third bottle of wine that we had just opened. We paid our bill of nearly £180 and home for before 8! Other staff were hugely apologetic and did try to find us alternative seats. We are regular customers and what was a much looked forward night out was completely ruined.

We had a Sunday evening reservation for 7pm - later than we wish to eat but that was all that was available - and we thought that it might be quieter. It wasn't - it was heaving. The table allocated to us was occupied and continued to be so until almost 7.40pm. We settled for another table which wasn't great. The main meal was good but they had mostly run out of deserts, Some of the staff were good but others surly. We are long standing customers but because it is no longer a great experience we shall not go back again for some considerable time.

We were recommended by our son,but to turn up at 7 o’clock and be told by the bar staff that the kitchen was closing at 7 30 wasn’t a good sign. The meal was very average and the service was very average, there wasn’t even a check on the main course. The mash and sauces on both plate’s was warm at best.

A sort of 'Hidden Gem's pub! Had a great lunch here and amazing value for both food and drinks.

Always a favourite venue. The food was really enjoyable as usual. However, although the service was good, there was overuse of the phrase "no worries" from the waitress! No lactose free milk alternative available so went elsewhere for coffee and cake where our needs were met.

Some of the worst service i have ever experienced, extremely slow, long wait times the entire time, multiple different service staff instead of just the same one, asked for two small wines but instead they brought over two large wines, we had steaks but it was served without steak knives, for an 8oz sirloin steak and 4 cherry tomatoes it cost £36, £4 for a tiny sauce and £5 for a bowl of chips. Anytime we actually wanted something we had to flag someone down to take our order, just generally poor service. We got billed for the two large wines even though we got small ones eventually, also they added a gratuity which is absolutely hilarious, asked them to take it off. The couple next to us actually got up and left because the main took over an hour to arrive for them, i also witnessed the staff telling to fully comp two entire tables because of delays, and someone else also didnt pay for a starter because he said it was terrible. This was on a Tuesday evening, not even that busy. 100% never returning to this place.
