Decided to try and book a table for four on the spur of the moment, we were dealt with very efficiently on the phone, and we arrived shortly after. Drinks arrived straight away, and I must mention the quality of the Timothy Taylors, absolutely superb pint. We ordered a variety of mains, steak and ale pie, fish and chips cheese leek and onion pie, and the smoked haddock. All four of us devoured the generous portions, and none of us could find any fault. The obviously homemade chips were especially delicious. None of could resist a desert, apple crumble spotted dick and bread and butter pudding followed and were also beautiful. We enjoyed the excellent service from start to finish. We enjoyed ourselves so much we got locked in dunham massey car park and had to get an uber home!

My friend and I planned to have lunch at this pub today. We decided to leave after witnessing a member of staff's total lack of empathy for a disabled driver (with blue badge). We had to watch whilst the driver was told in no uncertain terms that she couldn't park there as it was the Manager's spot. Not withstanding the fact that unless the Manager has a stretch limousine, there was in fact, room for 2 cars, the elderly lady then had to struggle a further distance with the aid of a walking stick. My understanding is that there is a legal obligation to provide a percentage of clearly labelled disabled parking bays. These were not evident. Unlawful discrimination? at the end of the day, just an example of total disregard and insensitivity. Shameful.

Food and service great.... maybe time for a lick of paint inside

Had the cheese pie, which came with a cheese sauce instead of brown gravy. It was truly delicious and something I've never seen before. The beer was clear as a bell and was brewed about a mile away. Dogs allowed in the bar, which can't be booked, but covered outdoor seating if there is no room in the bar.

Great beer, great staff. Perfect for a weekend walk and a couple of pints to finish off. Food is also great and well worth the trip!

Went for an Anniversary meal tonight, we just wanted fish and chips, it was amazing, the batter was fabulous, felt like we was near the seaside, definitely comilments to the chef

Its famous for their steak and ale pie....best I've ever had. Its next to Dunham park and dog friendly country pub. With a nice atmosphere.

A great dog-friendly country pub tucked down the end of a lane near to Dunham Massey. Plenty of seating inside and out. Lovely local beer selection and good traditional atmosphere. Ate on a July Saturday as table of five, eating mains and puddings. Every main was absolutely fantastic! I ate the chicken, leek and bacon in creamy white wine sauce. This really was delicious! The kids had the chicken and chorizo pasta, with the kitchen making a smaller portion for my youngest, which was good. This was fantastic again - the sauce was really tasty with plenty of meat too. For dessert it was, unfortunately, a little underwhelming after the 5* mains. I ordered the Belgium waffle. While the Cheshire ice cream was great and very generous in portion, the waffle was poor - I suspect one of those generic packet/frozen ones that are all too common sadly. My eldest had chocolate cake, which looked lovely and rich and youngest had ice cream. The staff were really lovely up to and during the meal but, after the bill came, we were left hanging around for quite a while trying to pay. Definitely will return as the main dishes were amazing and want to try some of the other menu choices.

Food is always good as it was again this time. Have been several times before and never disappointed. Friendly staff too.

We took a client of ours for a birthday meal on Tuesday. The staff were so lovely with him , well all of us., they made him feel so comfortable. The food was amazing, great place, loved it.

Had the chicken chorizo pasta my friend had rib eye steak was absolutely delicious probably the best food I’ve had in awhile would recommend 9/10

A lovely watering hole when on a walk esp when the pub is quiet. Timothy Taylors Landlord beer beautifully kept and served, staff friendly, food lovely though my daughters prawns Marie Rose was rather lacking in dressing. The submarine rolls were perhaps a bit dull and crumbly, but my fish goujons with tartare sauce were delicious. Food and beer sermed a little dear, but maybe I'm out of touch. Location is lovely, right by Dunham Massey.

I nice old-fashioned pub in a quiet place. They tend to get the older generation visiting as far as we have seen. The car park now has an i pad that you have to enter your car registration plate into as you enter. Otherwise you could get a parking ticket. We do not like this. A lot of car parks are adopting this approach these days. I must say that it put us off going to the places that do this.

Super dog friendly pub,excellent food and lovely staff. Country pub and exactly what you would expect. Love it. Everyone is so friendly, most people have walked in Dunham park and so not dressed for wine bar life but that just adds to the vibe 🥰

My partner and I had a delicious meal on a very quiet week night in The Swan. It really is a delightful pub with friendly, helpful people working behind the bar and serving, the food was tasty and good value, the whole evening was really enjoyable. We will be going back but I can quite imagine the place gets very busy.

Been here on and off for years. Good menu I personally love their scampi or fish and chips. Pudding are very good too. The staff is very helpful and the menu has plenty of choices. Keep going back.

Worth finding at the bottom of a dead end. Food and ales both excellent, can get busy and parking is an issue. Dog friendly with good outside areas

We called in after a walk around Dunham Massey area. 8 of us were catered for with swift excellence and the food was excellent. The staff were very helpful and the meal was well served.

Met my brother and his wife here for lunch. Excellent service, it was busy but the service was exceptional. Food excellent and good value for money. Will definitely be returning, hopefully soon.

I was disappointed with the food and the service, we had to buy bottled water £2.20 for my Grandson as was told the tap water was cloudy. We ordered fish and chips and jacket potatoes with chilli. The chips were cold and soggy and the mince hadn't even seen a chilli, I've had better food and service in Morrisons. The staff didn't even ask if we enjoyed the food. They did however make a fuss of our dog

The landlady kindly squeezed us in for Mother’s Day at the last minute,the food & service was excellent,great choice & great prices for the quality of food,we will certainly be going back.

The staff were wonderful, the food (& drinks) were amazing, and it's a lovely place to go and sit for food/something to drink, especially at the end of a long walk along the canal.

Extra points for being dog friendly!!! The food is okay but given the prices I'd expect better hygiene and service. There was leftover lipstick on one of our glasses and in general while the service is okay for a pub, it really doesn't match the price of £17 to £25 per meal.

A great spot for a birthday celebration ... we took my grandson along with a friend of his and enjoyed a carvery lunch with prosecco to start with, followed by some home made birthday cake and a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday to you" sung by the staff who were great before, during and after our meal. Thank you for making his day!

We have eaten here on many occasions but not been for a couple of years. I'm sad to say we were disappointed. One of our group had Sunday roast, some veg was cool and some hard and possibly frozen Yorkshire pud which he couldn't eat. Meat was bland and of poor quality.Wish I'd taken a pic of the Aberdeen Angus burger, which wasn't cheap, but not worth the money. I had my fave cheese pie which sadly was bland and weirdly wobbly like it had gelatin in it, it was just warm with a few chips and just warm beans. Only saving grace was dessert. Prices have increased, which I guess is expected in the current climate, but portion sizes have reduced. The pub seems to have lost some of its warm charm, I can't put my finger on it. Sorry

After enjoying a delightful stroll in the local area, we arrived at the establishment. Despite not having made a reservation, we managed to secure a table. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance to guarantee availability. For my meal, I opted for the chicken dish which was incredibly flavorful, accompanied by leeks and veggies. Meanwhile, my partner decided to have a light snack and ordered the Nachos starter. The portion size was quite generous, as evident from the picture, and could easily serve as a main course. It offered excellent value for money. Overall, the food was delicious, and the service provided by the staff members was exceptionally friendly, efficient, and pleasant. I would certainly consider returning in the future. Please note that if you choose to utilise their carpark, it is free of charge. However, it is essential to register your vehicle upon arrival.

A lovely venue for dinner any night of the week! It wasn't as busy here mid-week and that's a shame because the food was excellent, as was the service. Their alcohol-free beer is also good for those of the party not having wine. People need to support this place outside of the weekend or we'll lose it. It's been here forever and hopefully will stay forever as well!!

Bizarre to eat a dull Sunday "roast" listening to Cher and westlife. The food is rather lazily plopped together, hot but not well cooked. Had the appearence and taste of something microwaved. £19 to top it off! Staff were nice enough but should refrain from bitching about each other in the dining area. I'm hoping the food was a one off as most reviews say it is good.

Party of 6 on a busy Friday lunchtime in Christmas week. Service was prompt and unobtrusive. Food of excellent quality and served in good time. Overall, really enjoyed it. 👍

A great old fashioned proper pub with a brilliant crew serving very good food. We were there for a wake and the staff were fantastic and very respectful. We had a sandwich for lunch there, one steak and two prawn which were very tasty. The late afternoon food for the wake was probably the best buffet food we have ever had.

We're regular visitors here as they are genuinely dog friendly. Have only rarely been disappointed with the food. (A steak and ale pie had truly awful pastry and another time the usually wonderful chips were soggy) Good selection available and the lighter bites are most welcome if you love your food but prefer not to be overfaced. Great ambience especially when the background music is off - the place really doesn't need it. Staff friendly welcoming and courteous. Swan ale exceptionally good! We often have the scampi and the scallops with black pudding or the steak sandwich- never fails to please! Update for 2023 - sorry to say a major alteration to (at least the lunchtime -)menu has resulted in the disappearance of all our favourites, and we are struggling to find reliable alternatives. A real shame.

Really enjoyed the time spent there. The food was gorgeous and the cozy feel was perfect for a cold day. Plus it's surroundings were beautiful! The staff was very attentive and genuinely nice.

I asked for extra gravey but didn't really get much and the chips aren't the best tbh, can't really pin point what's off with them but just abit rubbish :/ Burger was super juicy and nice but again with the chips, would go back but just ask for fries instead :) Baileys creme brluee was freaking amazing though!! 😍😍 Staff were all super friendly and was a great atmosphere, would definitely go back

Lovely meal, great service and expensive drinks

It's a steady 3 out 5, food was ok, very limited for veggies. The chap who took our orders was super cheery and very knowledgeable, rest of the staff were a little less enthusiastic and somewhat surly. Desserts were impressive, although I would recommend the chef try tasting a real frangipan from France, thats quite a difference than from the one served here.

Wow, pricier than expected! Food we picked (we went for something smaller as we were not paying those prices) was just OK but enjoyed it nonetheless as hungry after a walk.

Parked our narrow boat on the Bridgewater Canal and walked to the Swan with 2 necks, along an old cobbled path, under the canal. We booked ahead for 6.30, and were a little late. A choice of real ale awaited. The staff were brilliant. It was my husband’s birthday, I told them, but they respected his wishes and didn’t make a fuss. The food was amazing! Smoked haddock and mashed potato and a sharing platter. He DID blow out a candle! It was an unforgettable evening thanks to the staff and the food!

I live over an hour away and first heard of this pub 11 years ago. I finally got here for a mid week lunch. Not disappointed, in a lovely area, a proper English old pub, that has not been spoiled and the staff were very friendly and helpful. But I thought the Tuna sandwich on a soft roll with not many more than half a dozen chips and a tiny side salad for £11.00, was very expensive. I realise overheads have shot up, but in comparison with other places I have been to recently, I think it was over priced. Will I be visiting again, with a round trip of two hours, there are better value places to visit.
