It had been years since I last visited athe Edgerton Arms. I had super fond memories. Unfortunately, yesterdays Sunday lunch did not live up to the memory. See the pic, it's says it all. A couple of scaggly pieces of beef literally thrown on the plate with some veg and additional veg in a side plate. I felt as sad as the plate looked. I am surprised that any kitchen would send a plate out looking the way my plate looked.

Booked ahead of time and mentioned we had 2 vegans for a Sunday lunch. Had a lovely vegan pie with all the trimmings and everything was clearly laid out for vegans/non vegans. Really painless experience which isn't always the case. Thanks so much for having us! And the food was brilliant and a fantastic Guinness.

Nice atmosphere and dark pub decor. Dog friendly which is nice. However, ive been 3 times in the last couple of years, usually at around 6pm so not late, and each time the staff have told us various items are missing from the menu. On the last visit it was over half the menu! What we eventually got was.. ok. The staff were also.. ok.

Pizza was rubbish, but management rectified the situation. Food was lovely for the rest of us. They brought a water bowl for the dogs, which was nice. My wife loved the lamb. The only thing that let it down was that the menu had alot of things they had ran out of which was a shame, making it limited in choice. Visited at 1800 so maybe why..

The service was very good and our main meals were nice (gluten free steak & ale pie and a prawn & crayfish salad), however the desserts were a disappointment, as neither were as described. The cheesecake in the menu just said cheesecake with fruit coulis and double cream, however what I received was a cheesecake covered in small malteser things with a chocolate sauce. I'm not a great fan of chocolate and this was far too sickly for my taste. Mum had honeycomb ice cream, but this was actually more like hard toffee and she struggled to bite through the large chunks. I the unlikely event we have desserts there again, we will certainly be clarifying what we're going to get!

We ordered 2 sandwiches, one a prawn the other cheese, plus chips and drinks for a lunchtime snack. They arrived on rather small brown baguettes for most appetites, and were hot! The cheese and onion had been well and truly toasted that the cheese was melting and the onions softened. It was a very hot day and a hot sandwich was not exactly desirable. Upon clearing our plates I made mention I had left half mine and was told they usually toast their sandwiches despite not being mentioned on their menu. The server had removed the charge for chips as an apology when the bill came which was appreciated. Lovely staff and quite attentive.

Visited for lunch today 8th July. Pub very quiet when we arrived. Were greeted by friendly staff member, seated and offered drinks. We had the chicken wings (very hot) and prawn and crayfish cocktail for starters. Fish & chips and steak pie for mains. Fish was huge and very tasty. Unfortunately the pastry on the steak pie was very hard but when this was mentioned we were offered a free dessert. Overall a very nice, traditional country pub. Will visit again.

Sold out of specials starter at 7.10pm on a Friday evening, despite only a couple of tables occupied. Mains average, waitress cleared plates no offer of dessert or coffees. Asked at 9.40pm at the bar as no sign of any waiting on staff, told coffee machine has been turned off and was offered a soft drink or Diet Coke…?? Had to wait over 5 minutes at the bar to pay our bill, totally ignored, knocked off the 7.5% service charge, said I would be posting an unfavourable review and the boy just shrugged . Despite living close by we shall not be visiting again.

We stopped here for lunch on our way home from Derbyshire to Lancashire. We ordered the Liver and Bacon with Mash and Gravy. Whilst the selection had great flavour there were some very tough veiny bits within the meat which was a little disappointing as these are usually cut out during the preparation prior to cooking. Apart from this minor incident the place had an inviting open fire and great atmosphere which led my score to be 5 overall but 4 for the quality of the food. I try to be balanced in my feedback.

Friendly staff but our main one who served us was a bit mechanical in speech, asking the questions but not even listening to answers, even walking away as we started to answer, so one of my answers is here. It only applies to my meal. I chose the liver and bacon dish, as this dish, wherever I eat it, is one of my favourites. It certainly wasn't this time. Liver undercooked, not as tasty as liver usually is - I even put salt on it to try to get some real taste - in vain - and it was like cutting rubber. And the sauce/gravy was a bit weak as well. The bacon mitigated it - very slightly because there was only a little of it. It was a chore to eat. I would have insisted on telling the waitress this but I felt it would have been a waste of time because her vocal output was so superficial - as I say - she asked the question but as she did so she was already walking away and not even in range to speak to with an answer without me raising my voice which I didn't want to as I thought it a waste of time in the circumstances.

The service was excellent and the staff also paid attention to my little one making sure she was well set up with a colouring set. Food was really good, we both had Steaks and were cooked perfectly. Nice drinks. The only moan and reason it did not get 5 stars was the pub itself was cold!! We kept our coats on throughout the meal. Very loud staff at bar, literally talking to customer for 15 minutes about jelly, loudly, then 3 different servers 1 was very efficient and lovely other 1 only came for payment helpful enough and other one looked so fed up, dumped cutlery on table felt like she'd rather be with other staff members propping up the bar chatting. Visited for lunch, we were given a table right next to the gents toilet door, the table was sticky/wet so not cleaned for us. The pizza was good but unfortunately the roast beef Sunday lunch (£16.95) was overall disappointing, good tender beef but sad soggy roast potatoes that had probably sat in the warmer too long, and a tough barely cooked parsnip. To it's credit the menu has gluten free and vegan options. Also note that they add 7.5% service charge to all bills regardless of party size, you have to ask the staff to remove it if you don't want to pay it. We left wishing we had checked out some of the fancier pubs that charged similar prices.

First time visiting. Staff was lovely and welcoming. No complaints with the service at all. The food was dissapointing for the price. Partner got Sunday dinner roast, The portion size was pretty below average, but hid by and oversized Yorkshire pudding. Im vegetarian and I found the menu to be quite limited. The wasn't even a veggie burger option. Ended up ordering nachos. And for £11.80 got to be some of the most expensive nachos I have ordered! . They were rubbish, had a burnt flavour to top where they were over done, and was given 4 tiny pots of topping that hardly covered any of them. My drink was also filled 3/4 of the way with ice in the glass, so my drink lasted one gulp. With a bill coming to nearly £50 for 1 soft drink (glass of ice) , 1 cider, (small) Sunday dinner and some burnt dry Nachos. It'd £50 we won't be spending here again.

Worst steak we have had for a long time!! We are regulars and have always returned to the Egerton, one of the main reasons being the quality of the steak. Tonight myself and my partner both ordered the fillet steak and what arrived was what we would describe as watery steak hache! Both the texture and taste were awful. We had a few mouthfuls and left the rest. We are assuming there has been a change in chef / supplier. We usually recommended the egerton to all our friends and family but now we won’t be returning and we will definitely be telling friends and family of our bad experience.

Booked a table after seeing trip advisors excellence award and 4/5 star reviews. Feel let down and maybe the wrong Egerton arms was reviewed. First impressions lovely cosy settings with comfy seating but odd only a handful of people in. Staff member friendly enough seating us. Small peeve but took are drinks order and automatically gave us ice, didn't ask preference. £7.90 for 2 soft drinks. Opted for pub classic fish n chips. Overpriced at £15.95 when you consider a local chippy would charge approx £7. More disappointed when meal arrived. Fish was on the small side and chips(again small approx 15) were not only cold but rock hard. Family members sweet fries were dark brown and black burnt at edges. At home the end results of those chips and fries would have gone to the food bin. After paying automatically put receipt in pocket like you do. Noticed afterwards they had the audacity to automatically put 7.5% service charge. They do put a little note at the bottom, but seriously! This is totally not acceptable. I drove nearly an hour to visit this place not like I'm going to return the distance to ask for my refund. I work NHS, imagine me ' my 5% pay rise is below the 13.5% inflation therefore for helping save your life I've took it on myself to invoice you a service charge as I feel entitled to skim you for a tip. My review may upset the owners and staff but it's my true opinion, unfortunately my experience will not have me returning.

we called in today for a spot of lunch whilst passing through, we have eaten here before but on this occasion we were really disappointed with the food. we sat outside in the beer garden with the weather being so nice, whilst sipping our drinks we decided to look through both the lunch and main menu. my husband decided on the braised ox liver which he said was nice but extremely over priced for what it was. I had the nachos sharing platter, and a ham and cheese sourdough roll with dressed salad, when it arrived I think my face said it all!!! it looked dried up brown seeds roll, not sourdough, I even said to my husband that I think that it had been frozen, couldn't make up my mind as it was over toasted, dry and tasteless, it didn't say on the menu it was toasted, I wouldn't have had it other wise so in the end I started to eat my sharing platter of nachos, well who could say that anyone dosent like nachos, well these were TERRIBLE, a merger amount of cheese, salsa, sour cream, on a what only I can say are the cheapest nachos Aldi sell. I honestly wished that I had taken photos of all the food, especially what I had ordered, terrible ,,,I don't know who came up with that as a sandwich, I don't mind what prices we pay for food as long as its good but honestly, anyone who reads this review please don't waste your hard earned cash in the place, ill never stop while passing again.

Arrived at 7:30pm on bank holiday Sunday to find it was completely empty. Odd because when we have visited on a number of occasions it was always busy. List of things not available. Ordered three Sunday roasts and a steak and ale pie. We’re told that carrot and swede mash had run out so ordered extra veg to replace. Four roasts turned up so one went back for change, and extra veg forgotten. The meat was good, but the potatoes and veg gave the impression they had been lying around for a long period. Roast potatoes were hard, and the Yorkshire was dark brown and tough. Sweets were fine. Not offered coffee so it was requested, to be told the coffee machine had been turned off, so refused! Staff were predominantly young kids who didn’t know what they were doing. A service charge was also added, which frankly was a bit of a cheek! This place used to be very good. We were told the manager who has been there a while, and who kept the place very well, was on holiday. Maybe so, but we’ll avoid this for a good while.

Not like it used to be was looking forward to a nice evening meal with friends the roast was very disappointing charged the same amount with hardly any veg as they had sold out also cold, steak pie with small chip ends and cold mushy peas. Asked for coffees and told machine had been turned off seemed the staff didn’t want to be there. After many years of going will not be going again seems to have lost its mojo

Dreadfull, first of all you get a service charge and you only find that out when you've paid and got your bill 7.1% which in our case came to nearly £6 ,if they warned you of this before you went in they'd probably loose a lot of custom ,right the meal ,ordered 3 meals firstly my stepdaughters ,pepperoni pizza, she had one bite, an left the rest £15 in napkins and then our bin ,my partners meal steak and ale pie with chips ,£15 the pie was just out of a foil case and warmed ,the peas were dry and wrinkled. re heated definitely not fresh ,the chips again re heated ,soggy horrible ,plus a few stragglers of salad ,my meal sirloin steak and chips ,£23 ,the steak was rubbery I've had a £5 steak from tescos better, and again the chips soggy definitely reheated ,when we got home rang and the manager said we do double cook our chips ,absolute drivel ,reheated, he then said email the boss ,we did he replied asking what the problem was ,we told him and now we've just been ignored ,my money doesn't grow on trees ,and with our 1 drink each it came to £78 I nearly hit the deck ,so my advice for anyone visiting this place keep clear and you'll get better value at McDonald's

We have eaten here fairly regularly in the past, but for a number of reasons this was our first visit this year. Monday evening with only a handful of customers. Three items on the menu not available. Our resulting food choice was good. A "discretionary" 7.5% service charge is added to the bill, as mentioned on the menu, on delivery to the table now which goes 'directly to the staff'. I find this approach VERY presumptuous. As a customer it should be I who chooses whether service warrants an addition for the staff, and to what extent, and not have to decide whether a pre selected amount should be reduced or withdrawn!

It's always a bit hit and miss with the food. Some of it is really good i.e. steak, and some of it is really quite poor i.e. pizza Drinks are great, and well kept. Service is decent.

After a busy week we decided to treat ourselves to dinner out. The Lord Combermere did not disappoint. We are a family of 4 and the staff were friendly and accommodating to us all. The children’s menu doubles as a colouring sheet which kept them busy whilst we looked at the menu. Our food came and was piping hot, absolutely delicious and very well presented. The portion sizes are very generous, especially the children’s, making it excellent value for money. Very attentive, helpful waitresses who advised us on which dishes were most popular etc. The dining area looks fantastic and had a lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait to return…

We always order from here and never usually have any issues. But unfortunately tonight we were disappointed. £36 order. All cold, even though only round the corner so can't blame driver. Item missing (sauce) so sweet and sour chicken balls with no sweet and sour sauce. Chips dry as a bone. Gutted.

I had a tasty gammon steak with two fried eggs. The coffee is filter style. I thought the atmosphere could have benefitted if there had been fewer dogs, but the ample parking areas are adjacent to a canal and a wooded area with paths, so dog owners will only be encouraged. Plenty of outdoor seating also. A very felicitous location.

Came to the Bears head today to meet some friends for drinks we were greeted by Steph when we arrived. What a very pleasant young lady the bar was quite busy but Steph took time out to acknowledge we were waiting and served us when our turn came around she was really knowledgeable regarding the different kind of drinks on offer and explained where we could sit as some tables had been reserved. This was a really pleasant experience in a nice atmosphere.
