Great hospitality as usual, feels like visiting old friends every time we arrive. One of the reasons we’re moving back to the area. Very dog friendly.

We had a fantastic time at the BIG Lock, We booked for 7 pm for two people and a dog, The staff were brilliant and friendly from the start our dog "Jess" was pampered from the minute she got there, The food was delivered quickly and was delicious. Each course was not rushed, We even had a go at the Quiz We had salt and pepper chicken bites, Halloumi fries for starters, Fish and chips (regular) for main and sticky toffee pudding with cream, Biscoff cookie dough with icecream We will definitely be calling back next time in the area, Thank you to you all for making us welcome xx

Had my daughter in law 30th birthday meal here last week absolutely love this place everything was prefect from the meet and great to the table service the staff definitely put in amazing Shift the food was fantastic nothing was never to much trouble definitely recommend will be back here very soon well done to all thank you. Called by too late to eat so ended up just having a quick pint. Big pub but lacks warmth or atmosphere. No real issues though just wouldn't make the effort to go back.

Recently I came across this canal side pub my brother and myself thought we’d give it a try. As soon as we stepped in through the door we were made to feel welcome. All of the staff seemed happy and friendly, We were shown to a table and looked after. I had beef roast and my brother had a salt and pepper chicken burger he upgraded to American tots all of the food was delicious! since then we have been in multiple times. We are working our way through the menu. I would definitely recommend the big lock

The main disappointing thing of this so-called Gastro pub are the prices. You live in Cheshire and you see pay Cheshire prices, but I won't visit it again .

Staff very welcoming, polite and helpful. Our little dog was made most welcome, had lots of fuss which he enjoys. Could do with more choice for sandwiches, we did enjoy the tuna, and the fish ( a bit more fish as we shared and my half was minimal). Scenery pleasant with the canal and greenery. Watch the barges go up and down the canal through the locks, the kids love it and always intrigued and willing to learn.

Nice pub and waiters had a steak meal (sirloin) steak and everything cooked spot on, but the steak was very gristly. In fact chopped it up and gave it to a dog outside with owner, she enjoyed it, not the chefs fault the meal was cooked great just the steak he had to cook with,

Probably need to advise some of your staff about customer service skills.

The atmosphere is extremely relaxed, and the food menu has something for any occasion, or appetite. Service is spot on and friendly. Views pleasant whilst dining.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Our party of five had 2 Roast Dinners and 3 meals from the Sunday menu. Really attentive friendly staff. All our dishes arrived in good time, hot and we all really enjoyed our food 😊 We will return !

Very busy due to the boat festival, service was excellent but the food was poor, starters came out and they were served cold, pie looked reheated with tasteless mash and mushy peas. Won’t be visiting again

An excellent place to stop and rest, after negotiating the lock itself. There's a wide choice on both the food menu and the drinks choices 😋. It is a little more expensive than other locals, but well worth it for the view.

Very lovely staff, It was my dogs birthday the day before and my friend had mentioned this and a lovely member of staff (unfortunately didn’t get her name) came and gave her a pup-cup and some treats! So kind hearted and couldn’t recommend enough

Pretty standard pub but on the banks of a canal, which makes it nice. Got fish 'n' chips. Well done with perfect British style batter

Booked an overnight stay at a motel chain , couldn’t find an decent pub on doorstep phoned the BIG LOCK PUB , and from the phone call to finishing my meal service 10/10 , thank you ps we are going back for breakfast motel doesn’t do breakfast. , so well done the big lock middlewich ps the chicken smothered in maple syrup was excellent

The venue is in a nice setting and staff were friendly, but unfortunately the food was pretty low quality, straight out the freezer, and pricey for what it was. Wouldn't recommend if going for food but for a drink it's great.

This is one of my favourite places in Middlewich, the food is always lovely, I've never had a bad meal from here, and the staff are very good and attentive. The only suggestion that I would have is at the end of a meal to ask how the bill is to be paid, don't just assume 1 person is going to pay for the whole bill, as it might like to be split, but otherwise perfect 👌

I went with my friend and we had the sharing platter I could not fault the taste of the food but the food was served on a cold metal platter and cold plates which made the food go cold extremely quickly

Great spot to visit after a walk on the canal. Take a pint our onto the balcony and enjoy the narrow boards passing through. Good coffee shop fownstaitrs with separate seating as well. Modern, but classic ambience in both pub and cafe.

Found this place for a stop off meal on way up to Blackpool, loverly place for a meal and dog friendly, great food and excellent staff.

I went to the little lock cafe by the canal side,where I had a full breakfast which was very nice with a nice drink of coffee, plus it was very reasonable on price,I would definitely go back again sometime in the future.

Yum. That’s all I can say. I went in on Friday for my usual, Fish and Chips. The Tantalising Dish has consistently been my favourite for months now! The fish is delectably crispy and cooked beautifully while the chips remain at my side for a complimentary salty bite. Yum. Not only is the food delicious, it is always served by a friendly, smiling member of staff. 🙂 They always make my personal Fish and Chip Friday worthwhile. Also, don’t let me forget to mention the company of the local dogs that come in with other customers who are awesome🙂 #dogs #fishandchips #awesome

Ok nice location food not top noche

Disappointing. The piece of fish was no more than a slither. The mashed potato was at least 5 or 6 times bigger than the fish. Definitely not worth £16.95 even at todays prices. The service was good.

Food was reasonably except the piece of fish was exceptional small no bigger than a finger and s hugh amount of mashed potato. Certainly not value for money.

What an amazing find….. Came to the Big Lock for Mothers Day after numerous recommendations and i am so happy I did. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. The food was amazing (lamb shanks OMG) staff were so friendly too. Will definitely return 11/10 from us 👏👏👏

Had a Sunday Roast with the family and the pigs and blankets (side dish) had a very undercooked and raw sausage within the bowl, the roast beef was very tough and the roast potatoes undercooked and basically raw in the middle. Would not recommend eating here.

Came here on a whim and so glad we did! I was recommended the katsu chicken burger which was incredible and my mum had the pork belly - also incredible with the most amazing crackling. Lovely staff and great atmosphere ✨️

Great visit, lovely food, and very attentive staff but not being too bothersome. We had drinks and a two course meal. They were great when we said we wanted a gap between courses. Definitely will be visiting again.

First time in ages. Nice and welcoming. Good food, though our first choice was unavailable as chicken hadn't been delivered yet. However our 2nd choice was great. The sweets were a tad expensive but they were huge! Maybe next time, I'll ask for one and two spoons!It was very quiet when we went for lunch but it was quite early.

Excellent pub. Very warm and welcoming staff in a clean and cosy environment. Food and drink was excellent. We visited in winter but in summer the outside must be terrific, along the canal. Our daughter now lives in the area so we look forward to visiting again 😀

Roast dinner was incredible. Doggy dinner looked incredible and the dogs loved it. Kids meals were great, beer selection was great, cauliflower cheese was great. Overall will definitely be going again. Also great for a coffee and a walk down the canal

As a dutchman this was my first time going to an english pub. Although I had an oldschool pub in mind, The Big Lock pub didn't disappoint me. The interior is very nice, comfortable seats and sofas and the staff is hospitable.

Came today to have look and see what it's like. As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and polite, nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely amazing and presented lovely, drinks were lovely. We will definitely be back for out family meal before Xmas. Already recommended to family and friends. Me, my mum and dad were very impressed. Thank you do much xxx

A great spot for lunch or dinner if you are on a canal boat holiday. Seems to be places to moor your boat safely. We were meeting for drinks, though I believe the food is good.

I really enjoyed my visit to The Big Lock Pub & Restaurant. The service was really good from the two waitresses and the atmosphere was really warm and inviting. The food was suitable for its setting. However, I do wish there were more adventurous options on the menu, as I honestly did struggle to choose something, so I played it safe with a steak. The steak was cooked perfectly to how I asked. However, I do wish the cut was a little thicker. The chips and beef gravy for me were a big let down as the chips were not crispy, and the beef gravy tasted like an OXO cube in water. I would love to return, and I think I would. Hopefully, there are some new menu items that would be more appealing for me the next time.

Food was nice, just ok. Staff were lovely. Really enjoyed the live singer. The pub as a whole had a really good vibe.

Decent pub food, great place in the summer to sit on the veranda and have a bite with a drink. I will say it was very cold in the pub, and did spoil our enjoyment of lunch as we were rushing to get out and in the car for a warm.

We moored outside on the canal. We stopped on way back through because we had such a good meal the first visit. Both visits were Incredible. Service Is top notch from moment you walk in the door to moment you leave. Very attention tive staff but not overtook. Food was just Incredible. Steak pie was beautiful Cocktails were super as well. Very well made. Brownie was scrumptious. The detail in the service and food made it a very memorable visit.

It’s the first time that I’ve been here and with my family 19/09/23 and it was my birthday. We were greeted by some lovely people with very friendly dogs that were so excited to see us. A lovely lady with amazing piercings ( I didn’t catch her name) came over and gave us some menus and showed us to our our table. A few minutes later she came and asked us if we had decided on what we wanted to eat but we hadn’t so she asked if we would like some drinks. We said we would but we hadn’t made our minds up and she said it’s okay I will come back. She returned a little while later and we ordered some. After about 10 mins later she came back with our drinks (with another nice lady) and took our food order which we had questions about and she confidently answered all of them. We didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive and it was amazing! Another lady came and asked us if everything was okay and it was. The lady with the great piercings was really nice patient and very helpful. I will definitely be going back!.

Visited at lunch time on an unexpectedly hot September Sunday, we both opted for the Beef Sunday roast with cauliflower cheese side and weren't disappointed. A good portion size, very well prepared and presented. Lovely location by the canal. Surprised that it wasn't busier (we were quite early about 1215) as we looked in Middlewich and everything was shut. Shame we are only visiting the area or we would definitely be back. We liked it so much on the outward leg of our canal holiday we returned on the way back, this time a Thursday evening, busier but still plenty of space. I had the classic burger - very nice with amazing chips, other half had the roast salmon special with roasted new potatoes, chorizo, broccoli, pea puree which looked amazing and she said tasted yum, a very nice triple chocolate brownie with ice cream, a latte with Tia Maria shot and a couple of drinks for about £55. Same great service, although sitting on the balcony meant ordering food and drinks at the bar..no biggie. Another very enjoyable visit.

We had a fantastic experience. The Sunday dinner was amazing!!!! Huge portions and so fresh! The waitress couldn't have been more helpful, nothing was a problem!! The manager asked us several times if we were happy!!! Honestly we'll worth a visit. The live music whilst eating was the cherry on top!!! Thank you all for a fab Sunday 👌

Probably the most friendly and accommodating pub I’ve ever been to. Ordered the doggy dinner for our Labrador which he loved. The staff are incredibly kind and lovely, after breaking down and being stranded in the local area last night, coming here has cheered us up so much. Extra special thanks to our waitress, not sure of her name (lady with facial piercings) - she was excellent. Food was amazing too, 10/10 - thank you so much.

Had a lovely experience here the manager Christine went above and beyond even allowing us to have a dessert boxed up to take home. The food was absolutely amazing, the 2 dessert we had whilst we were there was absolutely delicious big thank you to Lee who I believe makes the desserts. I even got to try out the cocktail of the week which was delicious. We shall definitely be returning thank you Christine and team.

Have been here a few times and generally found the food and service to be really good. Yesterday 23rd August was definitely an off day though. To start with there was a delay in bringing one of the fish dishes out, about 5 mins and also the batter on 1 was soggy. My steak pie was massively overcooked and although we got menus for dessert, such was the delay in coming back to us, we didn't bother ordering and instead settled up. Disappointing, for a birthday meal.
