The Bears Head in Cheshire East

Whenever I visit my parents, we come to The Bears Head. It never disappoints-the food is excellent, the atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the staff couldn’t be more welcoming or helpful. I highly recommend it!

Just had a great night in The Bears Head. Happened to drop on a night where there was a singer on which was lovely 😁 greeted by Micheal who was really welcoming (found out this was the manager) Todd recommended their house red which was lovely (Merlot) they were equally welcoming and friendly. We had their pizza and chicken kebab which came with a gorgeous feta salad and beetroot flat bread, yummy. Ended the night with a coffee and a mini desert each (Bakewell pudding and my friend had the brownie, equally yummy) just enough sweetness without feeling over faced. Found out the chefs were Sharon and Sophie that night. Lovely place, lovely atmosphere, fab food and great staff. Will definitely be going back. Thank you 😊

Todd was a great server, recommended wine to suit and ensured we knew what the specials for the day were. Alex and Jamie were the chefs this evening and I enjoyed the bacon chop which was the best I've had in a long time. Thank you! And I can't wait to try the steak next time!

Just used the accommodation, front door iffy didn't lock closed properly, easily pushed open, poorly lit inside but a great nights sleep, a bit pricy for what you get.

First time here for us.... The team are so professional, polite and attentive - just amazing! The food was unbelievable... we had the bacon chop and the pork belly....just delicious! We would give higher than 5 and would totally recommend. We are staying at the hotel too....the rooms are clean,welcoming and perfect. We will definitely use again!

We came on a Thursday for quiz night, had some nibbles and drinks and we absolutely loved it. Thoroughly enjoyed the quiz, good mix of questions for a wide age range. Service was quick despite being busy and the food was lovely - thank you! We'll definitely be back ☺️

Lovely place to meet friends almost equidistant from each of us. All had a drink, main and a dessert. Served by Todd and Ellen who were most forgiving of the fact we were rubbish at making decisions because we were to busy catching up on all we had missed since we last saw each other. Food was excellent, good portion sizes and well prepared. Thanks to Jamie and Alex for that.

Thank you so much to the whole team this morning. Krysten, Miguel, the chef and lovely girl who made my drinks. I visited today for a last minute brunch. The whole menu and allergen lists were available for me to choose from. Since I'm gluten and lactose free easting out can be difficult but this honestly was a pleasure. Nothing was too much trouble and the whole team really looked after me. Honestly thanks so much. I'll be sure to visit again. The food was really well cooked and tasty and it felt great knowing it was completely safe for me.

We popped in for a morning coffee. When we first arrived, it was unclear as to whether they were open as staff were busy clearing after breakfast, but once we asked them, they were great. Nice coffee & a cosy atmosphere.

Had lunch here with a friend yesterday. The pub is absolutely beautiful inside and the outdoor areas. Service from all the staff was excellent. We had the '2 courses for £27.50' The lentil cottage pie and the fish pie. There was 1 piece of salmon that had a lot of bones in, however, the rest of the pie and the veg were really good. Mini bakewell tart and lemon pie with blueberry and Prosecco coulis and cream were amazing!. Would recommend and will return soon

The food at this pub is absolutely excellent. The best fish and chips I’ve ever had anywhere the chips were crisp. The fish was crisp. The batter was crisp and fresh and never soggy. I could recommend this to anybody who likes good food. Good service is guaranteed

Staff are friendly but the food is terrible. Honestly, it bordered on inedible. Dishes came missing key items that were listed on the menu for each dish. We asked were the items were and the waiter trained, "oh so you want it?" And then took the dish away, added the missing items, and brought the same reheated dish back, now including the missing items. A few years ago we visited this pub several times, and another pub in Chester run by the same company, and the food was good. This time it was so poor we won't return and we do not recommend.

Booked Brunch for 3 people and from the outset we were made to feel welcome by friendly, helpful staff. Traditional warm, cosy atmosphere. Food for each of us was delicious, plenty of it and we didn't wait long. The staff were really helpful and attentive throughout our stay. We did infact stay on for extra drinks that we hadn't planned for, partly due to the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Really lovely place. Would most definitely recommend. I look forward to visiting again.

We went for lunch for my mums birthday. The food was delicious. The ladies serving us were great, and gave a swift service, we weren't hanging about waiting. One of the lovely ladies found a candle to put in my mums desert,such a kind thing to do and it made my mums birthday that extra bit special, so thank you for doing that

Really nice country pub well worth a visit.

Abysmal overall. Stayed overnight and had dinner in the pub on the evening. Food was quite nice but pretty expensive for what it was. The problem was the overnight stay and the way the staff handled it the next day. Hardly slept as we had a downstairs room and the noise reverberating from upstairs was terrible. The people were not being overly noisy but the floorboards were so creaky with every movement and we could hear their conversation loudly through the floor. The next day I also had a cold shower. The manager came out to the car park as we were leaving but rather than attempting to listen and make amends he was dismissive and spoke about internal policies such as having a word with the staff member who checked us in as they didn’t mention the night porter phone. He implied he would have evicted the upstairs people! Didn’t listen when I tried to explain it wasn’t them being too loud but the hotel being poorly insulated. He also told me he wasn’t aware of a plumbing problem in response to the cold shower. The conversation ended very badly as I told him he was being aggressive and he told me that I was being disingenuous to have said so and I was left shaky and upset as he was unprofessional and aggressive. Very poor customer treatment to a genuine complaint which was delivered calmly and without anger….I’m too tired to be angry.

Had a superb experience, the food was amazing, the ambience was very quaint and comfortable. Our waiter, Todd, was extremely attentive, friendly and a pleasure to meet. Can't recommend enough and definitely can't wait to return.

Great visit and a lovely breakfast with excellent service from Michael. My children loved the pancakes and bacon and the nice big garden at the back was lovely to relax with the sunshine !! Will definitely be back.

My friend and I met here regularly for lunch. Today we took advantage of the 40% off mains promotion offer which was very welcome. Our waiter today was called Will. He was charming and most helpful.

Wonderful food and great friendly service

We arrived at this astblishment and where wowed by the booming atmosphere, however we where told that we would be seated in a couple of minuets by a server and was stood waiting whilst staff where weaving in and out of us. Eventually got sat down in a corner which we where pleased about,we then waited 20minuets for a drinks order then about 15 minuets later took our meal order. we waited 40 minuets for our starter to arrive and I was in total shock at what was put down at our table, stale thinly slice bread and tiny square of pate and my friend recieved what was ment to be garlic mushrooms they where absolutely disgusting no garlic split sauce and tasted very strange it got left, we then waited another 40 minuets for the main meal which we when we got it I can't even described what I received politely ! it looked like it had been sat under the light for 40 minuets the beef was full of fat and grisle the veggies where dry and hard, the roasties where boiled spuds covered in oil and the yorkshire pud was deflated, the gravey what we had of it was stuck to the plate whilst this is going on we notice that locals where seated and served there starters and mains within 40 minuets and was well looked after. we ordered our pudding whick was part of the mothers day package to go because we needed to make our travels back home which was a long drive, we asked for 2 brownies to take away I waited a further 25 minuets untill I had to go and chase it up and was told she has just gone and asked about it I mean how long does it take to slice two brownies and pop them in a box ? I understand today is a busy day with it being mother's day but surely you would have been prepared for it especially if it's promoted as a mothers day special, there was no communication and the experience was dire, very disappointing.

We stayed here overnight on the way to a funeral in Cumbria, so we were not in the best spirits. We had a lovely meal, the food was beautiful cooked. It is a pub, but the food was better than some restaurants I have been to. All nicely presented and everything nice and clean. The public toilets were also really clean which gives me reassurance about the other areas. I have seen some negative reviews of the staff, but we found them to be very attentive and when there was no customer interaction they set to work cleaning, which was lovely to see. They run a quiz on Thursdays which we would happily go to. We stayed over for one night, everything was perfect, but I will look to review this separately.

A bit of an odd one... we went for Sunday lunch and I genuinely feel the front of house staff let the side down completely. Food was nice, roast potatoes weren't fresh - slightly stale but the rest of the food was pretty nice. When we arrived we were stood hanging around near the bar as we weren't sure whether to wait or just grab a table, staff just walked past and ignored us and the queue of people forming behind us. We asked a passing waiter whether we should just pick a table and he replied with "uh dunno just ask at the bar" - not great. So we waited and waited, I'd say nearly 10 minutes and when we finally got someone's attention we were greeted with an aggressive "have you booked?" and an eye roll and sigh when we said we hadn't. When it came to ordering, again I was kept waiting a good 5 minutes at the bar whilst staff were just milling around, they were more than adequately staffed but there just seemed to be a lack of managerial direction/urgency, the pub wasn't particularly busy. Our sticky platter (absolutely delicious!) starter arrived and we had no cutlery so I had to go and request from the bar, the bread was missing so again took a lot of effort to get someone's attention, my son's chips were missing from his plate which again took a while to get from the kitchen. We finished our starters and the plates were just left on our table for ages, staff walked past, saw them and ignored them. Just generally a very disappointing experience that can't be blamed on being short staffed or the pub being being too busy for staff to cope. Had the customer service been adequate (not even amazing) I would have easily given at least a 4 star review - I can forgive a few stale roast potatoes if everything else was fine. All of the above was in full view of the manager and he seemed equally not bothered. Probably won't come again which is a shame as the chef obviously knows what he's doing but the rest of the team has let them down. Not particularly cheap either over £80 for 2 adults and a child (no alcohol), I've had cheaper and better Sunday lunches with nicer staff elsewhere.

Disappointing Sunday lunch. The roast beef was overcooked, dry and akin to cardboard. The greens were grey and not freshly cooked. The cauliflower cheese was tasteless - why place melted mozzarella on top of over-cooked and mushy cauliflower as you are mixing two mild/weak flavours? Just use strong cheddar which is the norm and flavoursome. In summary, at best a school dinner. However, the serving staff were friendly and efficient.

Steph was an amazing waitress and made my evening better and more enoyable. I was so happy with my food. Thank you.so much, reckon Steph deserves a raise

We were attending a funeral, so we turned up the afternoon beforehand. Even though Booking. Com messed up our room reservation, the gentleman at the reception was very professional and competent, and we were allocated a room in minutes. The service is pleasant, with the local pub vibe and atmosphere, not a franchise, the food is nice also. The wake was held at Bear's Head also, great service all around .

Stayed for a night, lovely and cozy and very comfortable beds. I think food portions were a little small for the price, what do a few more chips cost? However the chocolate orange bomb was out of this world! They seemed short staffed behind the bar as ran out of lager glasses, said they'd bring it over to me but never did. Small things that can be rectified!

Lovely warm welcome. The restaurant became very busy but our delicious meals arrived in good time, served by very friendly staff (shoutout to Steph). Although we were only staying for one night on our way to North Wales we would have loved to have explored the area and stayed for longer.

Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful. Lovely atmosphere in the pub. I had the signature burger with fries and my partner had the chicken wrap. Wrap was a good tasty low cal option. The burger was nice but I would try something else next time. The burger was a little dense but was tasty.

The waitress was Steph. She was very helpful. She took an interest in our young grandson and helped him to select a meal. She had a very welcoming demeanour.

A return after many years since staying here. Booked for two nights over valentines. Room clean and cosy, although a broken toilet seat and door handle needed attention. Didn't bother us but it's the little things that matter so we let them know. Food was fabulous, especially the skewers and salad. Ambience was clean and warm. Everything is reasonably priced. However, it appeared short staffed (staff sickness? ) BUT A BIG SHOUT OUT to the staff on duty, especially Friday lunchtime when we arrived, for coping really well with the situation. We will be back regardless because it's a lovely inn.

The overall look of the pub is very good - good seating area options, choice of drinks including cocktails is very good as well, good range of foods on the menu and food quality was excellent. The drinks order was a little slow - but nothing of concern. First visit here and fair to say we will be back

Valentine’s Day Meal Review The atmosphere overall was a bit lackluster. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons: Pros: The food was delicious. I enjoyed my meal, but my partner ordered steak and asked for it to be cooked medium, when served it was rare. Unfortunately, when it was brought back after being returned for correction, it had been reheated and turned rubbery. By the time it was served, I had already finished my meal. The restaurant's interior is stunning and definitely adds to the ambiance. Cons: The service was excruciatingly slow and disorganised. We waited a long time for everything. At one point, the fire went out, making the room feel cold and was no relit during our stay. My partner’s steak was undercooked eg bright pink, which was disappointing given the specific request for medium. There were long wait times, and several other customers mentioned cold food and delays as well. It seemed like our waitress spent a lot of time preparing cocktails, which led to further delays. The bartender (a tall guy with a black beard) didn’t seem to have a good system in place for serving customers. He randomly picked people to serve, making it feel chaotic, and was very slow. Final Thoughts: I would consider coming back, but the service needs improvement. The waiters should focus on serving, and the bar staff should stick to managing the bar efficiently. If those areas were addressed, it would make a huge difference

I've been here for lunch several times and was really pleased, however, Valentines night was a shambles. We were put on a table next to the bar and drinking area which was very noisy.The kind waitress, when asked, found us a quieter table. The paté starter was fine. The fish pie could have been better and my mushroom risotto with peas was mainly garden peas and hardly any rice. I complained and had the fish pie as i didnt like the rest of the mains. My partner had finished his main course before I got my replacement. I asked for a tonic water with ice and lemon and was given flat whatever it was, as it wasn't tonic water. So much for romance and a nice meal. We gave up and didn't even bother with the desserts. The waitress adjusted the bill for us. Unfortunately, it spoilt the whole evening which we'd both been looking forward to.

A great dining pub with excellent accomodation. Good choices on a menu for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Very nicely cooked dishes with good sized portions. Accomodation in annex across the beer garden (would be lovely in summer... A bit cold in February !) was comfy, warm and quiet. Staff very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended ..we will certainly stay again.

Great place for new years celebrations

Had a marvelous lunch here today. Very well looked after by Steph and Kirstyn. Very friendly and efficient service.

The food was nice. The staff were pleasant. But we had a problem. Whilst we were eating the starter, which we had received only 10 minutes maximum, earlier, the server brought the main courses. We were still eating the soup. I felt we had no choice but to allow them to take it away. Also, the soup was very watery and had almost no flavour. Only half of the soup had been eaten at this point. We told the server we were still eating the soup and she apologised but proceeded to serve us the main courses regardless. We felt it was impolite to refuse them and also thought they would just sit and go cold if we did. Then the staff were setting the breakfast items on the table next to us, which was very offputring and quite rude. We could have been seated elsewhere if this was to happen but they sat us right next to the table. There was room elsewhere. The food was nice, though.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a solo work trip. from check in to dinner both nights Bethany was super! I’m 100+ miles away from home and she made me feel very welcomed. Great customer service, good food and a comfy bed all at a fair price.
