From walking into the pub with a lovely warm feeling, Beautifully decorated for the festive season and cosy without being crushed. The decorations are stunning and very welcoming indeed. Myself and 2 guests were shown to our reserverved table and allowed to read the menu without feeling rushed. Having decided on what we wanted to eat, myself and 1 guest went to the bar to order, she for the drinks, and myself for the meal. There were a few others at the bar but we didn't have to wait to be served and again felt welcomed. The bar staff were helpful and able to exchange a little conversation, which is nice compared to places where bar staff can be a little aloof and reluctant to smile in some, not here though. I had asked that the fish of one of the meals be well cooked and we were asked which vegetable we wanted. We were back at the table and having a good old chin wag, and the meal came for the 3 of us piping hot and on hot plates. Sadly, this is something a lot of pubs and restaurants forget about, and hot food chills down very quickly. Not so at the Broughton Arms, the plates are always hot! The fish which was well cooked was lovely, it was mine, and I really dislike wet fish, this was beautiful and the batter light and crispy, my guests were very pleased with their meals and have said they will certainly come back again. After finishing our meal, the assistant came and cleared our plates away and again was able to exchange pleasantries about the snow which had fallen the night previously. We sat there for about a further 10 minutes and then went to pay. The staff again were very helpful and wished us well, and hoped to see us again. I can say that The Broughton Arms will certainly see us again! Thank you for a lovely meal and the welcome. 10/10 and a gold star!

I had a tasty gammon steak with two fried eggs. The coffee is filter style. I thought the atmosphere could have benefitted if there had been fewer dogs, but the ample parking areas are adjacent to a canal and a wooded area with paths, so dog owners will only be encouraged. Food was served lovely and hot, very fresh, extra tasty, great fries- couldn’t fault it whatsoever. Drinks were great too and prices are very reasonable. The pub itself feels like a real, proper pub with friendly, hardworking staff and very nice locals. Everything very clean and well looked after. Great ambience- very relaxing visit. Was looking forward to coming back as we had a great time here when visited 2 years ago. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had the lighter lunch of fish and chips which was very nice. However my husband ordered the rump steak, medium rare, and swopped his peas for mushrooms due to an intolerance. His steak was well done, his mushrooms were awful and his chips were cold. The front of house staff did offer to replace with new meal but we wanted to eat our meals together not separately. Frankly his meal was inedible. A full refund was provided for his meal and also a complimentary pint of beer.

The beer is always good and never had a poor drink of beer at the Broughton , this time my mate and me had sausage and mash because I had had this once before and it was then really good , this time I am afraid it was not very good the sausages seemed over cooked (not burnt though) and the gravy had a greasy taste to it which we both picked up on . The sweet desert was very good , the waitress was very polite and professional . We have no problem going back for a meal here but it won’t be sausage and mash .

Firstly, the staff were excellent. This is not an indication of their performance. Very friendly and welcoming. But, for a 4pm Sunday booking, to have no roast dinner option was very disappointing. I ordered a vegetarian option, cauliflower cheese tart, which when it eventually arrived looked dry and like it been bought from Lidl or even somewhere cheaper! It was neither very cauliflowery or cheesy! However the meal came with gravy! Was it vegetarian gravy? Don’t know. The food took so long to arrive we considered leaving and going somewhere else. We all agreed that next time, we will. Addendum… To reply to the response below from the Brought Arms, we arrived at 4pm, the pub and restaurant are were both virtually empty. I saw that was the case because we were initially seated in the restaurant area with a clear view of outside, before being moved into the bar as I had my dog with me. There was NO ONE in the restaurant area at that time and a couple tables occupied outside. At 5pm? Only a few people had come in. While you may been busy earlier in the day, to claim it was busy at the time we were there is simply not true. And if the pub were as busy as you claim, while the wait could have been excused, it is still NO excuse for sub standard food and serving gravy with a vegetarian meal. The star rating is still deserved. Oh, and while I’m at it, a proper apology would have been better welcomed than a defensive response full of excuses and falsehoods.

We had booked a table earlier this week and on the day the manager took time to phone us to warn us that after a very busy weekend there were several menu items not available. She explained that a delivery was expected that day but it could arrive after the time we had booked and that would result in a reduced number of items available. Pass this place all the time and thought I’d pop in with my daughter who’s fussy and 15! It’s a lovely little place, got in no problem, the food was absolutely amazing and not too badly priced, they do do vouchers and I did have one but was unable to use it as the food I ordered wasn’t on the mains menu. There is a good selection of food and all that I saw come past me looked and smelled amazing. We only had to wait about 20 minutes for the food to arrive, my daughter had scampi and chips and I did ask for no tartare sauce but it still came with it (no big issue as it was in a little pot) and I had a Philly steak baguette with onions and both dishes came with fries. Absolutely amazing, food red hot and a good amount to say it came off the lunch menu. My daughter loved her scampi and fries and peas - which I was happy about and I loved mine also. So why the 4 stars and not 5? The staff lacked something. I’m not sure if they were understaffed or not but they didn’t have time to talk to ANYBODY, not me, not an old guy who asked for a half of his favourite. The staff were constantly on the move (probably not their fault) and even when me and my daughter left we didn’t even get a ‘goodbye’ or ‘Thankyou’ which you’d normally receive from other restaurants or bars or any shop that sells something. It wouldn’t put me off going again and I’d highly recommend it but can’t give it 5 stars and rank it with my other favourite 5 star restaurants. *also a lovely little canal out the back with narrow boats moored up, very pretty.

Myself and my husband and our Springer Spaniel were here 25th June and what a wonderful meal we had! The treatment by the staff was very good indeed, friendly and extremely helpful and also chatty, which always makes for a friendlier atmosphere. We ordered the Scampi, fries and garden peas for one and a Roast chicken and grilled bacon with tomato and salad pieces inside the beautiful crispy white toast club sandwich with fries for the other ( with a bit of the roast chicken for the dog.) What was lovely was the club didn't have cheese in it! Not everyone is a cheese lover. With a pint each to accompany the meal, it came to around £24 which we thought was excellent value for money. None of it was greasy thank goodness and the fries were crispy on the outside but soft inside which was just perfect for dipping into the tartare and also tomato sauces. Lovely gesture were the jugs of clean water and also clean bowls for the dogs to have a cool drink. Makes a change from some pubs where the dogs bowl is alive with pond life and algae from never being washed. Certainly recommend this lovely pub for a meal, especially after walking along the towpath along the Trent and Mersey canal. That cooling drink was certainly worth walking for!

We have been here many times and always enjoy the friendly atmosphere and helpful friendly staff! The beer garden is lovely with views of the canal and passing boats and is also dog friendly. There are also covered areas and dog water bowls available. There is a good selection of food to suit all tastes and ample parking. It’s also popular with passing canal boats and camper vans in the Spring and Summer months. There’s a dart board in the bar and large tv for popular sporting events. Already looking forward to our next visit!

Supporters coach stopped here on an away game to Crewe last month from Tranmere for about 2 hours, the location was great along with the service and food, price was decent and the food was piping hot, would recommend and the staff where very welcoming. Also offered a lot of options for dogs in which i assume is probably good as well.

We have been coming to the Bears Head for years and although it can be a bit hit and miss regarding the experience it has generally been OK. However, I don't if its changed ownership or they just cant get the staff but my last experience was appalling and also our family's last ever visit. We waited over 20 minutes before anyone came to the table to acknowledge our existence, the glasses were dirty, still bearing the lipstick of the previous owner. When we asked for clean glasses they were taken away and returned...still dirty. The food was inedible, with exception to the broccoli, which was the only thing that was cooked properly. The roast potatoes were so greasy that they became mush as soon as put my fork in them, the mash seemed to have been microwaved to the extreme, the cauliflower was sitting in water and completely tasteless. One member of staff, a young lad, seemed so disinterested in being there, it was almost comical. Sad to say, we will not be returning and an association that has lasted almost 20 years has come to an end.

We hired the dining room for a big birthday and had about 50 guests. Lauren and the team were excellent from the first time we visited. We had a hot buffet and organised a guitarist. The food was great, plenty of it and the room is warm and cosy. We looked at a few venues and so glad we decided on the Drum and Monkey. We’ll definitely be back.
