Just another really good lunch off the lunchtime deal menu £10 for a good choice of mains and a pint, crackin deal, really tasty food and good banter as usual with our favourite barmaid Krysy

Always had great real ales. However, the food from the new tenant is nowhere near as good as before ( real home made pies, great home roasted ham, REAL chips etc.). Main problem is frozen chips, ruins every decent meal, just laziness. Good outdoor area at the back.

Very warm welcome. Food was great quality and very hot 🔥. Good selection of beers as well.

Really nice Sunday lunch during a very busy service. Mix up over order but recovered well. Staff friendly and overall good value - Would go again.

Highly recommend visiting here. We came for lunch on Mother’s Day and had a great three course meal. The food was delicious. Really efficient and friendly staff for such a busy day. Great family friendly vibe. Will definitely be returning.

Food was tasty, staff friendly & helpful that there is a big car park to the rear. I met some friends here for lunch which was my first venture in since the change of ownership. Still a very good pub serving simple but delicious food. I was saddened by the fact the pie selection for which the pub had become quite famous had not remained on the lunch menu. The gammon & chips was rather good tho by way of compensation.

Another excellent visit to this fine, traditional pub. We had the £10 lunch offer, a meal and a pint. The portions in this offer are not huge but for the price what would you expect. For us it was perfect for a light lunch. There is always the full menu for those with bigger appetites. The food was excellent and the beer (Wainright) lovely. They are short staffed, there is notice saying they require more staff but the single girl on duty kept everyone happy. Well done! We will be back.

Great pub dog friendly not found on local search for pub/food while walking middle wood way, so we could have easily missed it.

Fab place ideal for nipping in after a dog walk very dog friendly great deals on food . The lady behind the bar was lovely, very pleasant .

Really good all round. I had the mushrooms, steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding. Pie and pudding were homemade and very nice. Nice little pub with good food.

Lunch menu states ‘Lunch and a drink for £10’ then ‘drinks include…,…,John Smiths, selected cask ale,..etc.’ We asked which cask ale, young server replied ‘only John Smiths’ (keg not cask), I showed her the menu so she rang the landlord who said it was an error in the menu. I tried again but no joy so we asked if Guinness was included, told it was so ordered it, then told it wasn’t. Landlord eventually appeared but we were ignored. He should know you have to honour what you advertise. Food arrived. It was mediocre. Toilets were dirty. They had definitely not been cleaned recently. We were there just after opening so no excuse there. Last visit.

Dog friendly and nice atmosphere - but food took 1.5 hours to arrive with no apology - food itself was pretty terrible - watery and unseasoned and microwaved. Would not return

We spent New Year's eve having a wonderful time in the Boar's Head. Thanks to Simon and Lauren and all the staff for making it a great night. The pub was full but not overly crowded due to tickets (free) being required. The complimentary beef sandwiches and fizz were a lovely touch and the whole night was a fantastic experience. Went here for Christmas Lunch - had initial issues with booking through the Open Table App but after speaking to the Landlord Simon, this was swiftly corrected. Very nice pub and setting. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Very friendly and welcoming. The 3 courses were delicious, especially the Turkey dinner. Highly recommend and would definitely visit again. Keep up the good work guys 5⭐️’s

Service terrible 1hr between courses

We had a lovely lunch today. My brother and I had the wraps and my Mum had a Chicken Schnitzel. We all said how tasty they were and will certainly be coming back. Becky is absolutely delightful and really looked after us. Would highly recommend.

Great little pub off the Middlewood way. Had a really nice weekday lunch deal, good food and drinks on offer. Will definitely be back.

Great atmosphere, lots of families meeting to celebrate the festive season. Christmas menu was very poor quality. 95% of the plate was frozen - frozen parsnips and roast potatoes (both of which hard in the centre and inedible) and all either frozen or tinned veg, again hard and with that freezer burn taste. For £24.95 for two courses this is extremely poor value. Mentioned to our overly awkward waitress who dismissed it with “will pass it on to the chef”. No one checked on us during the main meal other than when clearing half eaten plates. Great for a drink and a pitstop, avoid for food.

Landlady find it amusing to speak vile language while children still sat at the bar at ten pm speaking about popping candy blow jobs is disgusting to the customers thinks all the women fancy her fiancé now husband the prices get changed each time for drinks each time she serves the floors filfthy at the bar have very little entertainment on yet is only interested in the locals who fill her till up and then slates them and repeats about everyone’s problems maybe needs to re-evaluate her own bad language an distasteful information she tells when speaking about her private life at the bar food is atrocious over charged an they use smash in a tin to justify cost of living crisis What a nasty place this is ! Dogs are allowed in yet if one soils on the carpet they get kicked out an theses are regular customers well was !

Excellent home made food and extremely well kept cask beer. The pies are superb! Quite small, so it's worth booking, but well worth visiting. Also close to the Macclesfield canal and Middlewood way foot path and easy access to Lyme Park (on foot), so a good centre for walks. Changed hands now (Gordon of the pies no longer the landlord). I believe it has gone more up market, but haven't been since.

Lovely food, cosy vibe and friendly staff. Pie and mash was Devine. Cheese and bacon burger gorgeous however it was a shame there was no GF bun option!

Just had a meal off the Classics Lunchtime Menu and have to say it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time plus the local ales are always superb at the BH. The barmaid Krysy is such a lovely person and pulls a crackin 'pint too!

Excellent pint of Timothy Taylor’s and nice peri peri wraps. Great staff and dog friendly.

Had light lunch fish and chips and an % alcohol erdinger. Food great landlord great. Highly recommended

Superb service and delicious food, as always. Although we didn’t bring our dog today, can completely recommend The Boar’s Head for 4-legged friends. Water bowls are plentiful and they are welcomed inside and out. This is our local, but it serves those passing through just as warmly.

Decent lunch on a Friday with some friends (4 adults and 5 young children in total). Place was fairly busy, food fine, no problems.

We love having the Boars just a short walk away from ours. It’s a friendly pub and Krysy, and all the team are super welcoming. We’ve lived near the pub for two years and visit frequently and have never had a bad meal and the food is fresh and full of flavour. The pub had great indoor and outdoor space so if you’re looking for a post walk pint or an evening meal you’re well catered for. So, if you're after great food, a chilled atmosphere, with friendly regulars and a place that's as dog-friendly as it gets this is your type of pub.

We called in for a late lunch after walking the Middlewood Way and canal path. Had a delicious home made chicken, ham & leek pie. Friendly & speedy service. Highly recommended. Will be back for sure.

Superb visit today for the Sunday Roast. The roast itself was excellent, very tasty, well cooked and a good size Good service from the pleasant staff both behind the bar and the girls serving the meals. The Boar’s Head is a traditional style pub with seating in a “U” shape around a two sided well stocked bar. Large pleasant beer garden to the rear with some seating undercover and ample parking spaces available with more parking available outside on the road. The pub attracts a large number of hikers due to its position close to the canal and middlewood way and is dog friendly. Very enjoyable.

Food was fine. Sunday roast beef. Beer selection was great! Bitter: John Smith's Ale: Wainwright Larger: Amstel 3 of my personal favourites in said categories! Great stop after a ride back from the peaks and along the old railway.

Had a lunch Sept 23. Food has gone down hill since visited previously. Burger was very mediocre. Will come back here for drinks but not food.

Superb Sunday roast , we had chicken and beef, huge portion with extra vegetables on the side. Nice staff. Parking close by. Would go back here again.

Quiet, good beer, pleasant staff. We also visited on Friday and one of the girls was clueless.

It's a nice stop about half way along the Middlewood Way, the staff were friendly and the pub is very nice with a load of good beers. However, the Sunday roast was awful. The beef was dried and chewy, the roast potatoes were hardened pucks of dried potato, the mash was heavily seasoned with pepper and the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing were shop bought. It was all topped off with way too much gravy. While it was a healthy portion, the poor quality made it poor value for money at £14.95. I'd go back to the pub for a drink, but I wouldn't order food there again unless it improves.

A nice pub but sadly they don’t serve food on a Sunday evening, despite the website giving the impression that they do.

Lovely food at decent prices warm and welcoming atmosphere all combine to make this a little gem, means however it can get busy at certain times causing slight delays in service ..but the small weight is well worth it

Called for a quiet drink in the bar and maybe have our tea but was overwhelmed by a large group of loud workmen swearing loudly with no regard for the other clientele. Spoilt our night

Mid walk stop for a drink and Sunday roast. Drinks selection was a little disappointing, food was.... The vegetables were plentiful, the roasties great, but the beef itself was disappointing.

visited on a Saturday afternoon and the pub was busy but we managed to get a table. unfortunately the food took over an hour to arrive, and no warning when we ordered. when it did come, it was reasonably average and not the hottest. sadly...

Visited yesterday and have been here a few times recently. Service is excellent and the beer and cider very good. The food is always of a high standard and served with a smile.

A nice pub just off the Middlewood Way. Decent beer garden (beer carpark) at the back. Not the cheapest prices, but nothing else nearby, so that's understandable. The food was ok. The chicken schnitzel was really juicy, but a little on the bland side. The chicken caesar salad could do with a bit more love, presentation wise.

No roast dinners, pub was in dire needs a refurb, it's dire. Shabby inside and out. The saving grace was the Wainrights beer.

I tried to give them money but they made it too hard with a long queue and slow service. They have a beer garden outdoor space which Im sure would be lovely to have a drink if you can get one :)

After walking along Middlewood Way we decided to try the Boars Head. Glad we did , the food was excellent although was very busy so had to wait an hour but worth the wait. Recommend the Lasagne or Steak and Ale Pie !! Enjoyed a couple of drinks and watched in admiration at the 2 young bar maids as they both worked tirelessly and professionally during a very very busy lunch time service. Well worth a visit.. Thank you !!

Only called in for coffee after a cold, wet walk. Very welcoming, lovely staff, it just felt like a warm, comfortable friendly pub and, the coffee was delicious.

Really nice local pub, good amount of seating and decent outside seating. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. We stopped in for some food after walking with the dog so we sat outside. The pub is dog friendly which is nice. It lost a star for me because the food took 30 minutes to arrive. The food is average, nothing amazing but nothing terrible, we got two burgers and I'm pretty sure the burgers were frozen. I was craving a juicy burger and it was a bit of a let down, kinda bland, a bit dry and just alright. Overall it was fine and we ate it but I don't think it's anything to write home about. It wasn't bad enough that I would have complained but also not rushing to go back £10.50 for two ciders, bit expensive but not horrific.

Boar off... We ordered lobster mac n cheese and then they gave us mac n cheese with a load of small prawns, was the amount of prawns to make up for the none existent lobster written on the menu? They're marketing the dish with use of the L word when all you get is prawns. Also there was no homemade tartare sauce with my food as written on the menu and they gave us no salt.

We stopped here for an evening meal whilst on a canal boat holiday. Very friendly pub with excellent reasonably priced food. (The Tim Taylor's Landlord was superb too!). Would definitely come here again if I was in the area.

Bring back Gordon (previous landlord) To start with Simon and Lauren made an effort but for the past year you pair have become a disgrace. In the same night we bought 2 drinks £10, same 2 drinks £12 and Lauren chief rip off artist same 2 drinks £14 WOW! You have done this a few times now and when we asked the barman on the night why this is happening there was no response. Simon you were sat at the bar and knew exactly what was happening as you heard everything, whispering with the barman didn't help! Guilty of what.... Stealing, bad business, ripping off. Not good you pair, sort it out!

Be careful they will rip you off. Stop over charging for drinks landlady! Your bar staff are more honest than you! Simon you are aware of this being the landlord. No excuses for this behaviour. If anyone is visiting check the prices and check your...

A good pint and BLT sandwich. Pity the sandwich menu isn't very extensive on choice.

Stopped in at the end of a walk along the canal with a dog, a pushchair and a wheelchair. There was enough space and, although we only had a drink and some snacks, there was no trouble with ordering and paying for things at the bar. We didn't stay for hours but it was a pleasant stop, I'm sure we'd stop again if we were passing 😁👍🙂
