Been in here a couple of times after a walk on the canal and Middlewood way. And service was fine. But this last visit has put me off. Advertises that they welcome walkers and signs in the window say they serve hot drinks. As it was freezing outside we went in for teas and coffees after our walk. When I placed my order of lattes, tea and hot chocolate the server complained that she wasn't going to do any more hot drinks as it meant she spent all her time at the coffee maker. She reluctantly accepted the order after saying "do you want any more hot drinks as I might as well do them as I'm making these". My sister who was with me said no its okay she'd just have a lemonade as she felt awkward ordering the hot drink she wanted. As we were waiting to be served another customer ordered a tea and got the same rude response.

Only given a star at all as doesn't give a no star option. Ruined Christmas Day for our party of 8. £85/head for abysmal service and tatty pub and just ok food....edible. I have waited to review until now so I had calmed down as we were so let down. As soon as we walked in the place my worst fears came true having had hassle booking in the first place (that should've been a warning) the pub is so tatty, obviously not been touched for years....any other time I would've walked straight back out.. but having had to pay in full the week before we had no choice but to see it through. I love old buildings and traditional pubs but not dirty and tatty, threadbare carpets, peeling & dirty paintwork etc... We arrived at 2.30pm and we were the first party it seemed...waitress still laying the tables with cheap paper cloths that didn't cover the table leaving burn marks showing. Odd bits of cutlery...8 of us squeezed onto a table for 6, with crumbs on the seats from I presume the day before. Starters came in dribs and drabs...no being greeted with the glass of included fizz...which we had to ask for. The food was edible but that's as much as I can say....think school dinners. The mains came over the next 20/30 minutes...so the first served had to eat before the rest came....then there wasnt enough cutlery so food was going cold while that came in bits and pieces, my meal didn't even come, I had to ask for it...this had all been preordered! One sent back because hardly any turkey, another no pigs in blankets or turnips....if we weren't so angry it would've actually been laughable...it was like a comedy sketch off the Royal Family! Desserts were then being served before the mains plates were cleared so we had to collect them up all ourselves to make room. The tv was put on loudly for the Kings Speech then left on with a quiz show blasting out! We felt sorry for the waitress as she was totally untrained, hadn't got a clue and doing it all on her own, but from other reviews apparently the landlady gave her a hard time blaming her and putting her down infront of customers when she was doing her best and obviously been thrown in at the deep end!! We didn't see this but other diners witnessed it. We didn't even stay for coffee we didn't want to have to spend another penny in there and were relieved to leave the place! We only booked here out of convenience having never been before, but thought being in Poynton it would be decent...ha! I was just so relieved the next day that noone had food poisoning as can't imagine what the kitchen must be like. Other diners didn't get any food and asked for refunds.....I really wish we had....I only didn't as didn't want to ruin the day any more that it already was! It was my idea to have Christmas Day dinner out and I felt so embarrassed. Shame on you landlady for ripping us all off, extremely poor service, being rude to your staff...and ruining so many peoples Christmas Day!! So many decent restaurants I know were only charging the same as you and have really good reputations, we only chose you out of convenience travelling wise for us all. Although the waitress was aware of our issues and kept apologising I didn't complain to the landlady on the day as didn't want to make an already awful situation worse for my family by making a scene...but in hind sight I wish I had. We will never enter that place again!!

Absolute disaster of a Xmas Day dinner. Party of 8 arrived to be seated a table that was meant for 6 max, table half-covered in a cheap thin plastic tablecloth, the exposed half of the table was burnt. Sat for ages with no service, eventually the landlady came and we have to ask for the Prosecco which was supposed to have been offered on arrival as part of the £80 a head. We arrived to background Xmas music, until that was turned off to play the kings speech on the TV, followed by a gameshow at full volume while we ate... Starters eventually begin to arrive, there's no cutlery or condiments or napkins - we ask - 3 sets of cutlery arrive, about 10 minutes later I see someone rushing in to the bar with a dishwasher rack full of cutlery. It's 2:30pm, we are probably one of the first groups to be eating that day. Mains take about 20 minutes from first to last to arrive, my wife has had to finish hers before mine even arrives to stop it going cold. The first meal to arrive has half a slice of turkey on it...we have to send it back and ask for a proper portion. Another meal arrives with no pigs in blankets or parsnips. Another with parsnips completely cremated. Food is otherwise mostly edible (sprouts barely cooked at all) but we could have made better at home and this was £80 each. Desserts arrive before our table has been cleared from mains so we have to start clearing it up ourselves. There was one person staffing the bar and one waitress who was doing her best and seemed to feel sorry for us when she handed us our food, didn't see any other staff or management for the rest of the meal. Looking at OpenTable reviews of this place it looks like we had one of the better experiences.

Good place to drink and friendly staff beer a few times but the quality of the food has worsened. Half the items of the menu were not available, I ordered the £7.50 chicken skewer and ended up with 1 skewer on top of a lettuce leaf with cabbage. The mushroom and stilton started were just creamy tinned mushrooms on a slice of bread for a similar price. The pie I ordered was undercooked with raw pastry despite waiting for 45 mins for it to be served. "Skin on chips" were just oven baked frozen chips. You can see where corners have been cut on the food. It's a shame as I've had a better experience before, this time I've felt like I could have had better food for cheaper anywhere else.

This is the first time we’ve had Xmas lunch “out” and might be the last based on this experience. Some of the food (but not all) was delicious, but the service was awful. We booked in for 1pm, 10 mins later they told us that they didn’t have our preorder and didn’t have everything on the menu (including part of our original order). Starters were ok, nothing special, but then we waited 2 hours for our main course. No exaggeration. It took a complaint from our table to get them to bring the food out (after serving another 2 tables who’d arrived after us). The food was ok but the carrots were raw - they must have been cooked in cold water. Fair enough we got a round of drinks for free for the wait and the desserts only took another 30 mins, but they weren’t anything special - microwave jobs at best. They deducted a couple of further drinks off the bill when they realised they hadn’t provided us with the “complimentary fizz on arrival”. Very very disappointing and I won’t be visiting any time again.

Went in at lunch time with visiting friends and all had the fish and chips. All three portions were well cooked and a decent size. The mushy peas were a good consistency and the batter on the fish was crisp. Chips were also well cooked. There was about a ten minute wait for the food which was good. There is a good range of beers in the bar and an excellent pint of Guinness. My guest commented the john Smith's was a little too cold. The Tartare sauce was tasty but I prefer it to be a little bit creamier personally. The premises were clean and tidy and are dog friendly and the bar staff were polite and cheerful. All in all a very good experience and I would eat here again. Revisit 10/12/24 Fish and chips and Guinness as good as my original visit. Keeps the five stars.

Booked a table for the Festive Menu and pre-ordered food in advance. When we arrived we were told they didn't have our food order and they had no Christmas food in. Ordered from the ordinary menu which took over an hour to arrive and were extremely disappointing. Potatos were microwaved to death and chips were frozen. Other dishes were bland and we will not be back. Go elsewhere.

I visit here at least twice a month as it is convenient after walking through Lyme. I always have a beef Sunday dinner and most of the time, the beef is great - as is everything else. However, on occasions like today, the beef is really tough and inedible. We also asked for extra gravy and veg (as the portion was very small and was to be shared between three people) but it never arrived at our table. I told the waitress that the beef was too tough and different to the cut I usually have and she said she would tell the chef. I didn’t hear anything back after that.

I tried again but no joy so we asked if Guinness was included, told it was so ordered it, then told it wasn’t. Landlord eventually appeared but we were ignored. Great atmosphere, lots of families meeting to celebrate the festive season. Christmas menu was very poor quality. 95% of the plate was frozen - frozen parsnips and roast potatoes (both of which hard in the centre and inedible) and all either frozen or tinned veg, again hard and with that freezer burn taste. For £24.95 for two courses this is extremely poor value. Mentioned to our overly awkward waitress who dismissed it with “will pass it on to the chef”. No one checked on us during the main meal other than when clearing half eaten plates. Great for a drink and a pitstop, avoid for food.

We were recommended The Boars Head in a visitor book where we were staying. Lovely food and not far for us to go either

It's a nice stop about half way along the Middlewood Way, the staff were friendly and the pub is very nice with a load of good beers. However, the Sunday roast was awful. The beef was dried and chewy, the roast potatoes were hardened pucks of dried potato, the mash was heavily seasoned with pepper and the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing were shop bought. It was all topped off with way too much gravy. While it was a healthy portion, the poor quality made it poor value for money at £14.95. I'd go back to the pub for a drink, but I wouldn't order food there again unless it improves.

A nice pub but sadly they don’t serve food on a Sunday evening, despite the website giving the impression that they do.

Lovely food at decent prices warm and welcoming atmosphere all combine to make this a little gem, means however it can get busy at certain times causing slight delays in service ..but the small weight is well worth it

Stunning little pub that’s perfect to eat and drink at after a long hike or walk or even great to eat at before a long hike/walk Definitely would recommend it

Called for a quiet drink in the bar and maybe have our tea but was overwhelmed by a large group of loud workmen swearing loudly with no regard for the other clientele. Spoilt our night

Drove past with my girlfriend and we thought it looked like a nice place so turned around and popped in. Its very warm and welcoming with very friendly staff. Was intrigued by the specials board and so we both decided we would have some food as well as a drink. I have to say the food was definitely up there with the best we have had while dinning together. We will 100 percent be back soon such a hidden gem. Unfortunately we didnt take any photos of the food as was to busy enjoying every mouthful.

Friendly bar staff and good beer and cider. Saw a superb gin and other spirits collection behind the bar too.

Just want to say a big 'thank you' to all the staff at The Wilbraham Arms. We came for Christmas day dinner this year and the staff were exceptional, very attentive and welcoming and the food was excellent. We always enjoy a meal at this pub and highly recommend it.

We had a great lunch. Steph was a fantastic serving, very chatting and friendly but respectful of our business meeting.

Had a big birthday party at the Drum and Monkey. Everything was excellent. Catered for 40, all good food. The room is warm and cosy providing a great atmosphere. Lauren and the team were very helpful, friendly and organised. Would definitely recommend for a party or just a trip to a traditional pub.
