Suddenly, there are signs up saying 'No Dogs'. This is a country pub, close to a park popular with dogwalkers. This seems a very backward step.

I called in at this pub on my way past and it was fantastic in all areas. Made to feel like family by the wonderful and friendly staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. The landlord explained the process of the beers on draft giving a really good insight into the beer I was drinking (delicious btw!!). Ordered food which was excellent. Cannot recommend enough to anyone local and already planning my next trip 😊

The Whipping Stocks is a large pub with parking for many vehicles. The premises were clean and well presented and perfectly set out to comply with social distancing requirements. There was one real ale on offer plus other keg beers and lagers from the Samuel Smith brewery range. The menu was varied and the food was cooked and presented to a good quality. The staff were very friendly and the service was very good. I would certainly recommend a visit to the Whipping Stocks which provides very good value for money.

Read very mixed reviews but decided to give this lovely looking place a try. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly landlord and drinks were ordered. We chose food from a menu of good pub food and after a short wait the food arrived . It was piping hot and delicious. My wife had scampi, chips and peas and I chose steak & kidney pie , chips and seasonable veg. The pie was fantastic and the veg ( cauliflower, carrots and broccoli ) were cooked to perfection. The waitress who served us was the landlords daughter and his wife cooked the food. We really enjoyed our visit and staying at Royal Vale caravan park it was very near. Don’t always believe what you read!!! We’d visit again without hesitation.

We popped in one Wednesday lunchtime for a quick drink and a snack. I do like Sam Smith's beers especially at £2-00 a pint for Old Brewery Bitter - the beer was on form. Getting on towards buy one, get one free sort of price? The service is friendly and efficient and there is a good mix of dishes on the one-page menu. We both had a hand-raised pork pie, one with mushy peas, and the pies arrived warm with a lightly dressed salad. They were very good indeed. This is obviously a busy pub, and deservedly so.

I actually really like this pub. As a bit of swearer I like that it makes me think of new words to replace my sometimes vulgar vocabulary! Also I like the digital detox of no phone.Food looks good but we just had drinks so cannot comment. However all feedback on food that I have heard is positive. Seen the pub advertised on google and thought we would give this pub a try after a long and wet dog walk. We were so pleasantly surprised as to how lovely and traditional this pub actually is!! The landlord and lady greeted us as we arrived, helped us with our two doggies who were muddy and wet after our walk (as they actually provide a small basket of dog towels to dry them off at the front door, dog bowls for water and a little jar of dog treats!) Great selection of food on their menu, both our meals were lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed them! (8oz Rump steak and chips is delicious here, chef cooks it to perfection! just as I had requested.) Landlady who I believe is actually the chef could not of done enough for us, her husband is a great laugh and both really into their history especially with the pubs link to the D-Day landing! this pub is very interesting and a fab treasure to find, we will definitely will be back!!Thank you!!

The only reason I gave this place any stars is because the beer was OK and cheap. The food on th other hand was dreadful. Our main courses took 1 hour to arrive and when it did it was cold, and when I say cold, I mean really cold. The pork my wife ordered was like sliced meat from a supermarket and the "mashed potato" looked like it was from a packet mix. And gravy with a cheese and onion pie? I asked for a refund, which I begrudgingly got.

It would be nice if on here an overall rating could be reset. The pub had stood closed for about 5 months. Now it has re-opened, and the new landlord is settling in. Very nice, made some changes, but nothing drastic. Regarding food, I thought it very considerate that without me having mentioned it, the Landlady heard I was allergic to rapeseed oil, and kindly used a different spread on my food, as the usual has rapeseed oil. Details like that matter, and nice of the bar staff to mention it - thanks.

I was previously a huge fan of this pub but they have re-decorated it and put the most miserable man in Cheshire behind the bar. And that's saying something, there are some right grumpy so and sos. The redecoration is ok but they had a chance to do something special with a great building but instead they have re-stained the panels exactly the same and changed the carpets. For some inexplicable reason they have taken the curtains out. Why? They did the same at The Swan in Holmes Chapel and it feels soulless. The worst bit is the bloke behind the bar. He actually didn't speak at all. Not a single word over 2 rounds of drinks despite me, the customer, trying to engage him. Rubbish.

We used to go to this pub quite often bit that was a number of years ago. However we were in the area and needed something to eat so thought of The Whpiping Stocks. What a mistake. First of all it didn't actually look open and therefore wasn't welcoming. The door was shut and once you actually found your way in the entrance smelt of urine. We mistakenly ordered a drink before asking for a menu if we'd done it the other way round we would have left straight away. Mr Personality behind the bar quite rudely told us that they 'stopped serving'. It was 3.10 on a sunny Sunday afternoon what pub on a very busy road does not serve food all day. We asked what crisps there was and again was rudely answered 'those there'. There was no polite conversation or indeed any conversation from Mr Personality and seemed to have a chip on his shoulder the size of a King Edward. Everything seemed a hassle. There was absolutely no atmosphere in the pub and the six old dears that were sat in there seemed half asleep. No food Not welcoming No atmosphere Toilets dirty Bar tender (owner?) should never have been in the trade he definitely wasn't suited. Weird Pubs Sam Smiths pubs. They spend no money on the decor, there are no brands in sight and the prices were last increased in 1964. Hence they are either awful or brilliant. This one is brilliant but only because of the fabulous landlord and his wonderful staff. There's some real effort on show here. All of the fires are open and roaring, there are fresh flowers on display, the food is excellent and the beers extremely well kept. We have been coming here several years although basic (no loud music etc) it has bags of character the staff are very helpful and friendly the prices amazing and the food really tasty and we never have to wait long they also sell a. Good mild beer which is rare these days if it was good enough for Patten it's good enough for us

Visited as the Park Gate inn was closed - good welcome by staff. Efficient and still a good drink of Sam Smiths Ales at cheap prices. There is a specials board to check out for eats - we didn' t eat on this occasion but the plates of food leaving the kitchen looked very good, and empty plates were going back!Friendly locals- always someone to have a chat to.Highly recommended

Staying a the local caravan site and was directed here ... It was a terrible experience the manager and I assume was his wife were distant to the point of being rude. Horrible, horrible atmosphere but we decided to stay as it was the local. The beer was not the best and I could tell the glass was not clean. We ordered food and it arrived in an unceremonial way and tasted disgusting, we left most...Give it a miss

Have visited this pub a number of times. Has a number of different sections/rooms which makes it quite cosy. In winter a few of them have real fires. As the weather was ok today made use of the beer garden which is quite spacious. Food we had was ok except for the fact that my tuna melt was placed on a paper napkin which had stuck to the bottom of the roll & so I had to pick a lot of it off before I could start to eat it.

Popped in today for a bite to eat at lunch. Well i have to say why the landlady is working in the Customer sector is beyond me . Rudely spoken to, all of i can think of is that it must be the Barclays staff that keep the place afloat. I

Lovely pub but service was very poor. We were eventually seated and after 30 minutes we had to find someone to take our order. I could only presume the staff were more invested in the wedding going on rather than the paying customers. Food was tasty but served luke warm. No one asked for if we'd like condiments or water for the table and no one checked on our table until we had finished. Attention to detail is lacking.

What a great pub , welcomed by Paula , 40 + of us descended on her and her team for a pre wedding drink , which turned into everyone ordering food , the poor guy in the kitchen was run ragged , the food was good the drinks were reasonable for Knutsford . Thanks a lot you were all brilliant !
