We stayed here as it was nicely located for our trip to Scotland and was listed as dog friendly. The staff were so welcoming from start to finish and dog friendly is the biggest understatement ever! The room was well furnished and very comfortable and was a great start to our holiday. The food however was the real highlight and was backed up by great staff. They were very knowledgeable and were able to answer all questions about the dishes and their contents. All 3 courses were very well presented and the portion size perfect. The gravy is the most unbelievable gravy I have tasted. The staff will know who wrote this review as I wouldn't shut up about how nice it was! The fellow diners were very friendly and they all looked like they were enjoying the food as well. A massive thank you to all at The Dog for a great stay and for making us, along with our Border Collie, feel so welcome. A massive thank you to the chef for the gravy though!

We attended a wedding at Merrydale Manor so I booked The Dog as it said it was close by to the venue. What an absolutely pleasant surprise! As a dog lover, I was just in my element when we were shown to our room. The decor was simply exceptionally original and so much thought had gone into every little quirky detail. From the dog cushions to the themed wallpaper and the lovely pictures of the beauties in frames. Unique. At the wedding, we were able to get a free shuttle bus in the early hours back to The Dog as they are apparently owned by the same people. We also were easily able to catch a shuttle bus the next day to pick up our car (it had been raining so we had driven to the venue and left our car). The best cooked breakfast I’ve ever had was served in the morning, with lots of personal attention; nothing was too much trouble. We were both nursing hangovers and this was exactly what the morning required. I’ve already recommended this place to all my fellow dog loving friends. Thank you, a really special pub and guest rooms.

First visit, wow what a lovely place!. Deep in the heart of beautiful Cheshire, located on a small lane The Dog has an instant appeal as you drive around the corner!. Huge car park at the side which was already busy at 1300hrs. There is a rear garden with a covered area tables etc and a brilliant vintage restored lorry on show!. There is a brilliant garden bar which sadly we could not enjoy as the weather was not great but another day!. As you enter the pub you are greeted with warmth and smiles, we had booked a table but a little early so sat at the bar and then we were shown to our table. Ordered our drinks and food and wow amazing how quickly the food was delivered. You will not leave this place feeling hungry!!!, lovely cooked meat, my wife's lamb was tender and she is difficult to please trust me!!!. The selection of well cooked veg not fork bending "Al Dente" and fantastic gravy completed a very tasty Sunday roast!, I could be picky and say the roast potatoes were not the best but my plate was empty so not so bad!. This is a very busy pub for a good reason and the tables are up close and personal, in fact it was packed and noisy which will not please everyone but it was a very happy atmosphere with couples, families & friends all enjoying themselves, it was a lovely Sunday afternoon, try the mid week evening for a quieter time!. Great selection of beer and wine, however, I would mention the price of wine which was OTT, I can afford it but it will upset some!, excellent quality & selection though!!. One word of caution when exiting the car park, use the road mirror, small lane and blind corner equals problem!!. The drive to and from The Dog is brilliant, I love this part of Cheshire!!. 100% will revisit worth 5 star!!!.

These days you go into pubs with low to middling expectations as to the welcome and service you’ll receive, and the quality of food. Not The Dog - it surpasses everything you want for a lunchtime visit. Spotlessly clean, excellent surroundings, great choice of beers and exceptional food. And the service (thanks to Dawn and colleagues) is 10/10!

Both myself & my wife decided to call in for breakfast, as my friends have just moved in nearby. We were greeted pleasantly on arrival and politely escorted to a table with our dog. We ordered drinks which arrived timely.. we then ordered breakfast which once again arrived timely ( promptly) although very impolitely placed on the table. The waitress walked away with no response or offer of condiments to complement our breakfast. We had to leave the table to request these and whilst requesting we requested an additional glass for the bottled water we had received. Upon the waitress returning with breakfast condiments ( brown sauce) and leaving we once again had to leave the table and request the drinking glass to which we were told yes yes yes I’m busy with a condescending look ( the restaurant was at most 3 customers) the glass arrived promptly. Our breakfast poached eggs were near to hard boiled and slightly warm.. I would suggest as a minimum the mature of age waitress is rescheduled for customer service training and etiquette conduct, and the chef to sharpen his standards in the kitchen.. very poor experience for the 1st visit.. our friends of nearby will be disappointed if this is the standard of service for what appears a idilic country pub/ restaurant… Disappointing all round!!!….

Great lunch at the Dog today. Really nice food and good value in this nicely appointed free house. Taylors Boltmaker and Weetwood bitters were very nice too. The visit was made perfect for us by the young ladies who served the food especially Dawn who made us very much at home with her knowledge of the area. Many thanks from the four old men!

Love this place. It's a little off the track but worth finding as the trip takes you through a lovely part of Cheshire. Wife and I shared Fish n chips and loved it as the chef separated it in the kitchen instead of presenting us with plate for us to divide. Cant remember what our daughter had but she loved it. She paid as a gift for us paying for her wedding at the nearby Colshaw Hall, years ago. Dogs are welcome and everyone gets a great welcome whether a billionaire or a pauper like us. Those days have gone but still have great memories.

I recently visited The Dog with my mum, who's nearly 90, and we had a cracking Sunday lunch! Despite the place being packed, the service was spot-on—meticulous and caring. The staff made sure we never felt ignored, always responding courteously and promptly, which was lovely to see. The food was absolutely top-notch. It's clear why it's so busy here; the quality of the food is fantastic. They manage to create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone, from little ones to friends catching up, seems to be having a great time. The staff are obviously very well trained knowing exactly how to make you feel relaxed. We’re definitely planning to come back soon. I think it’s a great place the to bring your family for a meal where the service will make you feel very welcome. There were an abundance of families eating etc whilst we were there, I think this is extremely popular for Sunday lunch given the amount of people, but we did not wait more than a couple of mins for service. Well done management team!

After a family Boxing Day walk we finished off at The Dog. The pub was very busy with a great atmosphere and the staff attentive. We were seated and served quickly and the food was beautiful, unfortunately there was a slight issue with one of the dishes but this was not a problem as the staff soon resolved it. An excellent country pub and definitely worth a visit.

What an absolute hidden gem. As country pubs go this could be the best! We arrived on a Sunday at about 5pm 30 minutes before our booking, this was no issue to the lovely young lady on the desk at entrance. A few tables were switched around and we were seated in a lovely cosy area of the pub. Drinks order was taken by our lovely waiter and the menu was run through eg starters soup of the day and Sunday roast options. We all had a starter main and dessert. The starters were all outstanding great presentation and really tasty and enjoyable. But without a doubt the show stopper at this pub is their Sunday roast, i would honestly say this is the BEST Sunday pub lunch in Manchester/Cheshire. Please please visit this place!!

I had the vegetarian nut roast. Waited ages which was understandable as it was busy but when my food arrived it was so disappointing. The meat eaters had plates piled high but I had next to nothing, a slice of nut roast, two potatoes, a spoonful of carrot mash and a spoonful of mixed green veg. There was mash which I didn't touch as it looked so unappetising. My granddaughter had far more on her Child's portion. I'd eaten all mine before the rest had really got going. I left hungry and went home to get some more food. I won't be going back.

Had many lovely meals at The Dog, but hadn’t visited for a few years until today. Well, my roast was just the best ever, even more delicious than I remember. Absolutely cooked to perfection & beautifully presented. Their roasts are by far the best around here imo. Very nice waitresses looking after us too. My only negative was a young man, dressed in a checked suit, leaned right over me, whilst I was eating, to retrieve an empty glass. He should have gone around the back of me, if he felt it necessary to take my glass whilst I was eating.

Was so looking forward to celebrating two family birthdays. But was such a disappointment. We all ordered a roast, three of us a large one. We waited an age for them to arrive and when they came we could not tell the different between a large or a small one. Then we realised that three of the plates were white whilst the others grey, however those that ordered large ended with a small. Those that ordered pork, only one got crackling. Some had no roast potato's and at least one person no carrots. One of the group that ordered pork got turkey. Good job they were not allergic. Yes they were very busy and yes we received an apology and a free round of drinks but seriously it will be a very long time before I go back.

Yesterday me and my family went for dinner to the dog but it was just mediocre. We asked for the stir-fry to be without oyster as we figured it would not be a big deal but they could only serve it with and oyster , as a person who cannot eat them alike others found this disappointing. The food we ordered was not great, we are locals and have been coming to the dog for many years and have seen this slow downfall in the food.It is also quite overpriced to say the least. It was a bit of a let down as it is not the same anymore ,other customers in there were a bit rude after an inconvenience of ours.A bit disappointing.

Just dropped in for lunch…,truth was we almost drove past the pub, its fairly understated from the front aspect and we were searching for the perfect shortcut to somewhere. So glad we decided to stop and go inside. It has that great ‘real pub’ atmosphere inside and a beer garden with an outdoor bar. Lunch was simple but gratifying….place was packed on a Thursday lunchtime which speaks for itself.

Errrrm ... Don’t know how to start this review !! ( please do read my previous 5* reviews ) .... Okay so it was New Year’s Day . Were they busy ?? Of course they were and I’m delighted that they were so !! I hadn’t booked a table , my friend and I only wanted a few drinks catch-up post Christmas .My friend and I had to wait for an absolute age to order our drinks .Our second round , the same again , payment was taken for said drinks , yet the young man behind behind the bar , having taken my payment , proceeded to look after other drinks checks before looking after and delivering my order ... Absolutely not on !! I’ve worked in hospitality for 25* years and this is a definite no-no . Pay for something ?? You receive it !! Not wait whilst other drinks are being prepared !!Such a shame ... I loved this place for the food and the (previous) good service . I’m always happy to recommend , yet after today I cannot do that . I’m so sorry . Kieran , please sort out your staff !!

We visited for lunch without a booking on a Wednesday, and found the place already quite busy - by the time we left, it was full. We might have been forgiven for thinking that service may have suffered as a result, but not at all. Food was received pretty quickly following our order, as did drinks plus an extra pint of excellent Timothy Taylor Boltmaker to boot!We had the salmon and smoked haddock fishcake and the home-made pie with chips. At first glance, the portions looked smaller than we usually get, but in truth the plates are larger than usual too. What we got was actually just right and left room for 2 very enjoyable puddings. The cooking is of a high standard, favouring taste rather than simply volume, and to our view, just right. Finally, a shout out to Dawn. All the people serving were friendly and professional, but she in particular stood out. Even though the place was heaving, she still had time for a quick chat with all her customers, but not to the detriment of her quality of service. A pleasure to see someone doing their job really well.

Our visit was almost entirely at random. Just in the area, needing lunch, and spotted a 'brown sign' for the Dog Inn.So glad we did.The pub was quite busy, but we were found am lovely table quickly and the food and drink service throughout was very friendly and very efficient. The food was magic.I had the fish and chips: incredibly white firm fish, light golden crispy batter, proper chips, proper mushy peas and a lovely tartare sauce. My partner chose the beef burger: that was wonderful. A sizable beef patty made with minced steak, char-seared on the outside and perfect and moist inside.I tried a piece and have to say it was the very best burger I'd tasted in a long while. So it's a lovely pub - large car park, dog-friendly and also has letting rooms. What's not to love?

There's a touch of class about this pub and it's a shame that service levels have apparently dipped as they have in many places post Brexit/ Covid. We were here for afternoon drinks and didn't experience any issues. As for those still banging on about Covid protocols; I was with my 100 year old neighbour who like me is just getting on with life. If you're still worried after being double jabbed, just stay at home ('becomeacouchpotato') instead of attacking a business in recovery....sorry, rant over(!)Anyway, we sat in the 'garden', in the sunshine, at a nice table, drinking good ale around friendly locals. Happy days indeed.

What a dreadful experience. We went with friends who were also disappointed as they often lunch here but say it has deteriorated. Disliked the 'jokey' dogs dressed up as human pictures. But worst of all was the total retreat from any kind of Covid protocols. Not a single customer wearing masks and no staff, either. (And yes, I do know it is a personal decision but other restaurants manage it) The food was traditional pub grub but not very appealing. Service was certainly not with a smile and the main course was slapped down as soon as we finished the starters. We didn't wait for dessert

I was shocked at the lack of Covid 19 precautions.None of the food serving staff were wearing protective face masks, either when taking orders or serving food.(In Latin American countries such as Mexico and Cuba this is obligatory) The virus does not discriminate between 1st world & 3rd world countries. It's no good being served meal by a pretty, efficient waitress who could be breathing Covid 19 all over the meal. There are limited plastic screens at the bar & I was shocked when the barman expected to give me my change on a none screened area of the bar.He seemed to be completely oblivious to my concerns. and was not wearing a face mask. There were also no track and trace arrangements in place.I feel much safer in The Chelford Arms where they have bar staff wearing face masks and track and trace measures.I was extremely dissapointed with The Dog,I have been going in there semi regularly for many years but I just didn't feel safe.I'm 65 not 25!

A lovely smile always helps Our party of four went for a drink outside the front of the pub due to being early for our reservation, and the table service was perfect along side beautiful surroundings! We then went inside and enjoyed a two course Sunday lunch which was well presented and tasted delicious (2x scallops, 1x smoked salmon followed by 4x pork roasts) this was accompanied by a bottle of house Merlot which was of excellent quality! My partner and I (who are in the industry) had lunch with my parents and we have to take our hats off to the quality of produce, overall price and service of the wonderful staff!! The Roast Beef looks like it’s been boiled and it’s rubbery, horrible. The carrot swede mash is almost vinegary! How any self respecting chef can let it out of the kitchen beggars belief. Four of us ate for lunch a couple of weeks ago. Scampi to start then pies. The scampi was nicely cooked, batter crisp, though the addition of a boiled egg was a strange thing to put with it, didn't work well. Steak pie was good if a little dry but a further order of gravy dealt with that - very good chips indeed. Service was a little slow and waiting staff are very young, had to repeatedly keep looking around for someone. Overall though, it's reliable and friendly, and the food decent. I wouldn't call it excellent, hence the "very good". It's good value though especially compared to other local places.

Around 5pm a member of staff came over and told everyone they had to vacate the room. Two things; firstly, there was no notice that this would be happening and secondly, there was no advice on where we could move to, all tables appeared to be taken. We asked at the bar and took a table in the restaurant before leaving shortly thereafter. Not a big issue but it was poor customer service.

After going in to order our starter arrived quickly, my pate was nice but toasted bread was stone cold. 45 minutes later and our main meal still hadnt been served. It was getting cold and dark and we were worried they had forgotten about us outside. Went in and found a free table and went to tell the waitress we had moved tables to say she thought we were gone and she'd go back into the kitchen and get our meal. 20 minutes later it finally arrived, the waiter put the plates down and walked off not speaking and didnt offer any sauces or more drinks etc. The food must have just been stuck under a heater because it wasnt the hottest and the food and sauce on the ribs was all dried out. I had the fish and chips, I literally had 6 chips and 1 spoon of mushy peas. Couldnt be bothered sending it back to wait another half an hour. Waitress dropped half of our onion rings and said she'd replace them with new ones... we never got them. It was a pretty poor show and expensive for what it was. We both left disappointed.

Had lunch there yesterday. Chose from the light bites sandwich based menu. Food came very quickly and looked like it had been thrown together. Chips under cooked. Beef on sandwich almost raw and too tough to eat. Outside eating area swarmed with wasps and no attempt use the usual deterrents. Bar person offered a tab to be set up and then kept my carder duration of the meal felt like a criminal. The food has definitely gone down hill from a couple of years ago

The Dog is situated in the quiet countryside of Peover with great beers, a good choice of snacks and meals served by a cheerful and helpful staff. The atmosphere is friendly, and cyclists, dogs and horses welcomed summer and winter. Well worth a visit, the specials are good value and you will not be hungry when you leave!

How lucky are we to have this as our local pub!! Great food in a lovely rural location. Staff are great, in particular Jo who makes you feel extremely welcome and really goes the extra mile to look after you. Eat and drink here regularly so would highly recommend.

We saw the signs and found this quaint pub in its lovely rural location with an attractive building, outside seating and a big car park. We stayed the night and enjoyed a great Sunday roast which was well cooked and came in good portions accompanied by great local beers. Our room was ideal although beware as the walls were paper thin and we woke our neighbours with our mobile phone clock alarms. Price for B&B; was fine and may take into account the breakfast that is just a main course and toast - no cereal, etc.

I prebooked a table for four for Sunday lunch on the 9th June 2019. We were so looking forward to meeting up with old friends and chatting over lunch. All went well as we ordered a bottle of wine and gave our order. After waiting 30mins we politely asked how long would our food be to be told it was on its way. Another 25 mins pass and we asked again. The waitress in question was very dismissive to the point of rudeness. Eventually it came, served cold, swimming in gravy. To add insult to injury as the roomed filled we were all jammed in like sardines in fact my friend was shoulder to shoulder with the next table. This is not the end of the story! dogs are allowed in this pub and we had a dog almost under our table constantly yapping so we were unable to have any conversation by now. As we left we again politely told of our concerns and extreme disappointment but quite honestly no one gave a toss.

We found this pub almost by accident and it was a very nice surprise. We had lunch outside as it was sunny although the eating area in the pub looked very attractive. Menu was original with a wide range of meals from light snacks to some delicious sounding heavier meals. Hotdog was large, smokey and filling whilst my husband was impressed with a fish finger barm - home made fish fingers. Very reasonably priced and if we go to the area again would like an evening meal there.

Good choice on menu from sandwiches to full meals. Steak pie was a proper pie not just meat with a pastry lid and was very tasty with thick gravy. Hubbie had the ribs and wings and said they were very nice. Good selection of draught beers. Staff are all very friendly. Will definately eat there again.

Came for Sunday lunch en famille, having booked a table online in the morning. Kids both ordered ‘Big Dogs’, and despite being disappointed that there were no burgers in the menu, were very happy with their choices, which arrived without onions and mustard, as requested. Husband and I went for blackened cod and spicy beef noodle salad, which were both excellent.

We went on recommendation and arrived at around 3.30pm on Sunday. We waited around 45 minutes which was fine as we had a drink at the bar and the time passed quickly. We ordered the lamb dinner for two which was delicious with lovely fresh vegetables and ordered the very large Yorkshire puddings as an extra. Very generous portions and we were full! Gravy was great. Not everyone would agree but we loved to see people bring in their dogs and enjoyed watching them socialise, very funny. Can’t wait to come back soon

We waited over an hour in a dark corner for our food while trying to keep 2 hungry children entertained. We were a party of 6. When the food arrived it was completely drowned in not very nice gravy but I was too hungry to send it back. Everything tasted of gravy. It was certainly not the best roast dinner I’ve had although my two daughters did enjoy theirs. Yorkshire puddings are an extra unless you have beef. This was my first visit and most probably my last.

We visit The Dog once a year with colleagues for Christmas lunch. Was disappointed with service from waiting on staff and therefore do not plan to return. We specifically requested one of the meals arrive without gravy. When it arrived with gravy and we questioned this, there was no offer to replace. We got told that the chef had put gravy on it and it couldn’t be changed. As a result the meal was half eaten. Another of the waitresses I can only describe as sullen. Her customer service skills were zero although she was very chatty with another table. Food was ok, nothing special. I suspect locals receive much better service.

It’s been a couple of months since we went to the Dog but this time we did not enjoy our experience. The waitress was awful and argumentative we ordered drinks that didn’t arrive. she said it’s the fault of the bar it’s so full it was not then we ordered a bottle of water it didn’t come she confronted us with Who did you order it from when we said it was from her she became nasty and said we had not ordered it from her. She did not know how to take an order we repeated what we wanted several times and she started to write it down then had to start again

The Yellow Broom is best described as a blend of pure elegance with a splash of sophistication. The setting is undeniably beautiful, complemented by a warm welcome from the staff, who are clearly well-trained in delivering exceptional silver service. The menu offers a well-balanced selection of cuisine, ensuring there's something to delight every palate. The presentation of the dishes was nothing short of exquisite, and the flavors were simply delightful. The staff were remarkably attentive without being intrusive, striking the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant were both appealing and comfortable, enhancing the overall dining experience. The Yellow Broom is a truly first-class establishment that consistently maintains high standards. I highly recommend a visit—you will not be disappointed.

Really good, freshly-cooked pub food. Decent beers, friendly service and reasonable prices. Lovely old-school, generous puddings too. The menu choice is limited but if that ensures everything is fresh and of a high quality then that's fine by us. Had a great evening meal here with the family and would certainly visit again.
