Great value, well-cooked food and friendly service: everything a cafe should be. We arrived when the cafe was busy - always a good sign - and were told that because it was so busy there may be a slight delay. We didn't have too long to wait, however, and the quality of the food was worth it. Great choice of soups and toasties / panini. Highly recommend.

This traditional pub has a rural location in the village of Chatton. We travelled around 11 miles each way from our accommodation at Branton and took in a few single track roads, a ford and some of the local wildlife to get there and back. At one point a hare was running down the road in front of us but refused to get off the tarmac onto the grass verge or under a hedge, resulting in us following it for what seemed like a mile or so! Not to be outdone a flock of partridge gave us the same treatment not long afterwards! Nothing would tempt them to leave the road until I almost ran over them and they eventually took flight. Our encounters had us guessing what might be on the menu however as it transpires neither made the list. There was parking at the front of the pub and I discovered later that there were spaces at the rear too. Fortunately we had reserved a table as it was a busy place on arrival, lots of people out for a Sunday bar meal and drinks creating a good ambiance. Slightly away from the hub of the bar we were shown down a passageway towards the rear of the building where there were a couple more areas for dining, full of old English country style furnishings and décor. Fortunately there were plenty of customers in this area too so no shortage of atmosphere. The menu was weighted towards meats of various descriptions although there were a couple of veggie options too, with starters from £5 - £14 and mains £16 - £22. We both ordered Lemon & Confit Garlic Roasted Chicken Supreme (£17) which came with a large selection of vegetables. Having failed to notice this on the menu, and prompted by our waitress, we ordered up a side of Truffled Cauliflower Cheese (£4.50) just for good measure. When the meal arrived we realised no sides were actually required - the dish was accompanied by mash, duck fat roasted potatoes, buttered suede, braised red cabbage, honey glazed carrots & parsnips, seasonal greens, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy. The only thing missing was cauliflower... and a partridge in a pear tree and given our journey we could possibly have brought the latter with us. The chicken was tender and all the vegetables, including the cauliflower, were fresh and full of flavour. Although my wife only managed a single scoop of ice cream for dessert (£3) I was tempted by the Raspberry & Elderflower Gin Eton Mess which came with Chantilly cream & crushed meringue (£8). It was nice but probably unnecessary. A G&T (£6.60) and a ½ pint of local beer accompanied the meal which in total cost just under £59 which we considered good value for money. Our return to the accommodation was again interesting. For those less keen on travel the pub has five rooms available for a stay over.

Ordered three pizzas and a wrap, wrap and chips ice cold and pizzas burned like in the picture. Shocking standard for fresh made food, who is actually looking at this and saying that’s fine to send out. If there was any other take away open In Wooler these guys would be closed from lack of business. My advice go to co op and get a chilled pizza and cook it yourself. I’m all for supporting local businesses but only if they actually care about their customers and standards. Otherwise they deserve big business to swallow them up. Wake up and start to care.

Manage to get a last minute booking here for Sundays dinner, the Sunday dinners were fantastic and suited my small children too. The portions were huge, they were very helpful the staff and so friendly to me and my family. They gave my small dog a water bowl too some treats. I would come here again if I came back to wooler.
