Manage to get a last minute booking here for Sundays dinner, the Sunday dinners were fantastic and suited my small children too. The portions were huge, they were very helpful the staff and so friendly to me and my family. They gave my small dog a water bowl too some treats. I would come here again if I came back to wooler.

When for Sunday dinner with young children. No kids menu and no veggie option. We ordered 2 small dinners 1 normal and 1 without meat, only to be told it was the same price as on with meat??? So I ended up with chicken that the dog had when we got back home, along with the beef.Selection of watery veg and boiled potatoes, no mash and topped off with aunt bessies Yorkshire puds. I can’t comment on any other food as they only did Sunday dinners, not the best and wouldn’t come back for food here again. We went and got pizzas on the way home as we were all still hungry . Staff were nice, hence the 2 stars

When we arrived we were greeted by a very cheerful barman and made to feel very welcome. The evening continued to be a lovely experience bar staff owners and locals made us feel very welcome. We had dinner my husband had the biggest fish I have seen chips and mushy peas. I am a vegetarian and chef made a lovely vegetable pie, salad and chips for me. The chips were to die for. A great experience and food was fantastic no complaints will definitely be back.

Ordered a Chinese for 7pm told to pick it up at that time, waited 40 minutes for my spring rolls to be forgotten about, chips weren’t chips they were half potato skins, the rice was sticky and tasted like nothing, onions not cooked at all in the chow mein, £44 wouldn’t recommend

We came to the Anchor on New Years Day. We were told in advance that on that day they were only doing a roast dinner. The staff were really friendly and when the dinner came, it was enormous We had several roasties each and 4 slices of pork, (there was a choice of meats). When the veg came, it was, all freshly made, new potatoes, carrots, swede, peas, broccoli and red cabbage plus proper gravy. We discussed the price while we ate because we hadn't asked how much it was. Imagine our surprise when we came to pay and the dinners were only £9.45 per person. We tried to go back the day after but they were having a well earned rest. Next time we are in Wooler, we will definitely be back.

Have to say that I was a bit reluctant to go in as I knew they didn’t serve real ale. However, a group of 5 of us ventured in on New Years Day around 4pm after a long walk up to Humbleton Hill. We entered a very warm and welcoming place, with a buzzing atmosphere. I was pleased to see they had Sam Smiths Sovereign ale on draught which was very good. Made up for the lack of real ale. The prices were good too. Dogs very welcome and a friendly landlord. Didn’t try the food but will try next time if ever in the area.

The Anchor is the best bar in Wooler by far. Very welcoming and great atmosphere. The food is great quality, big portions and value for money. The Sunday lunches are amazing! Best to book as it’s very busy. The Chinese night on a Saturday is also good. They do takeaways too. Quiz night on a Thursday and bingo on a Saturday. We went to the Halloween party which was a good laugh. The bar staff and locals are very friendly. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Eight of us ladies stayed at the house next door to this top notch pub for a weekend. The pubs owner and staff are very welcoming. The atmosphere is great, and the drinks are extremely reasonably priced. Nothing is too much bother for this owner and his team of staff. We all took advantage of the offer to book for breakfast bith mornings. We arrived at pur preferred time to a massive well cooked and tasty breakfast, served with unlimited tea coffee and toast. The price was amazing for the amount you were given. In fact we asked for smaller portions for the second morning as there was so much waste. We would also definitely recommend joining in the Saturday bingo session it was a good laugh, even if we didn't win. The pub also offers a Chinese night on a Saturday where you can order from a varied menu and state your time for either take away, or eat in. Be aware the Chinese meals are like the pub ones the portions are huge. One between two is ample. We decided to collect our food from the Anchor, and eat it next door in our accommodation. The food was presented well, still hot and delicious. We will be booking the same accommodation next year and will certainly be returning to the Anchor Inn to sample more of Chris's and his teams excellent hospitality. Thank you from Sue and the ladies.

Staying in the area on holiday. Called in to the Anchor Inn on the off chance for lunch. When I walked in there was a member of staff standing counter side and an other behind the bar. No one attempted to speak to me do I nicely asked if they had a table for 2 free for lunch. The young lad counter side just looked at me then asked the older lady behind the bar if they had a table. She just shook her head vigorously without looking in my direction. Neither of the staff members actually spoke a word to me. Now I realise they were probably busy but a bit of common courtesy would have been appreciated! What a way to treat a would be customer!

Three lads on our way to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, shored up at the nearby Shepherd's Huts YHA, and an evening of pints and frivolity downtown at the Anchor Inn. Well, walking in one could have heard a pin drop as all locals stopped, checked their breath, and turned our way, pints in hands still. OK, cliched, right? In fact, once we broke this ice, and launched into the dog's corner (he was asbent this evening) and started the banter with locals Derek and Tracey and a third gent at the bar whose name I sadly can't recall, things were just fine! Tracey regaled us with her stories of pet pythons and gravedigging (she said my brother would be an 'easy job' to bury but big Brendan she would surely struggle with).

Thanks to Chris, Jeff, Carol and Julie for such a great welcome each time we go. We really look forward to the banter and great food - Sunday lunch is a must! My wife and I have found our forever pub where we feel more relaxed and rested after we have had a few gin and tonics or a cocktail from the list. My wife has even had one named after her and she really feels privileged! A great group of friends and the locals are welcoming too. John and Janice help run a bingo session on Saturdays and they always have a smile and a welcome for new faces.

Just had a cracking roast at Anchor Inn Wooler. Very generous portions, piping hot 'proper ' gravy. Recommend for anyone, brought our two dogs today, friendly welcome- good value too.

Might have been a bad day at the office but not sure what the hype is after having read some really good reviews. Booking for 3 adults 2 children (2&7)12:00 on Sunday 27th Oct. We initially wanted to come for the seafood platter, however, this was unavailable on a Sunday which can't be helped. We opted for 2 Sunday lunches, 1 salmon, and a sausage and mash. All of the veg that was served with the mains was luke warm at best, the Yorkshire pudding with one of the mains was burnt, the mash was lumpy, the roasts were in my opinion inedible (hard and dry on the inside and the skin was tough and soggy as if cooked from frozen or reheated), no cutlery was given, the salmon was swimming in a sauce almost as if it were a soup (could be preference but not how I would serve it personally). We were asked twice if everything was OK and we said unfortunately not and specified why. The service stated that they check on this for us but nothing was mentioned or escalated and we paid full price for all meals. We would have returned to try the seafood platter (as we've heard good things) if some effort was made to potentially refund part of the meals but no effort was made to rectify this. In addition to this we had to wipe down our table, seats and high chair as they were dusty and unclean. The gents toilets were very unclean also. We went to an Italian chain restaurant the week before and the food was far superior and better value for money. Overall, quite disappointing given the reputation from positive reviews.

Got asked to leave as my 16 year old had 2 sips of a corona cero which is 0.0% alcohol. It's says it on the bottle and on the weatherspoons app. The lady from the bar that came over to our table to was rude and abrupt claiming they could lose their licence. How could they lose their licence when there is literally no alcohol in the corona cero what so ever. We were having a big family get together that was ruined by the weatherspoon staff. Will not be back again.
