The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Went there for a late breakfast, but when i read the specials on the notice boards, I was blown away from the very good and tasty breakfasts, to the Specials he is adding to the Menu. This week was toad in the hole (See photo) It look good and very appealing , when it was served, it was a large portion which was very hot and tasted like good old mum used to make. People were looking at it when i was being served, and their choices for their lunch changed to the toad in the hole. It was soon sold out. Shane assures us that it will be back on the menu tomorrow. Another amazing lunch at this family ran pub. Lovely warm welcome Food superb,steaming hot,cauliflower cheese delicious and the homemade dessert not to be missed,Malteses and Dime ice cream 😋😋😋 Nothing no trouble Look forward to next visit

Wonderful little find. Absolutely delicious cakes and then returned next day for breakfast (also amazing) and more cakes. All the staff are welcoming and friendly and personally loved the music play list. A special little place that is definitely worth a visit (maybe more than one!)

It was lovely to be greeted and seated as we arrived. Sourdough toast and jam, and Eggs Benedict were delicious, and the coffee was good. Cakes were bought to take away for later. Dogs were welcomed and we were given space for them. We were staying in the village so we returned for a second visit.

Great evening watching Elite Elton in the marquee.Beautiful salmon and veg followed by orange tart(generous portions).Strongly disliked the smoke machine but otherwise a fantastic evening.

Absolutely terrible tables were dirty and floor ! Had to wait ages for my order then the young Indian girl overcharged me she called me a liar ! When I sled to speak to manager she said no she’s busy absolutely disgusting.

Amazing ice cream! A big bonus for us was that it was suitable for our nut-allergic son, who almost never gets this sort of ice cream treat. The lady was very knowledgeable about her ingredients as it’s homemade, and made sure she got a fresh scoop for him too. He declared it the best ice cream ever! The coffee was also delicious, piping hot & served in beautiful eco-friendly cups with different designs. Highly recommend and not just for the summer, the hot chocolate looked amazing too and there was a lovely selection of gifts in the shop.

The is a locals pub with a friendly atmosphere that extended to visitors like me. A lovely pub setting good food. The house beer "Black Horse" was served to perfection

Great food and great people, very friendly. Service was great and quick. Couldn't have asked for better. Really enjoyed our Sunday Carvery and will definitely be returning. Thanks again.

This is a great place for a large, well cooked breakfast, By 9.30am most of the tables were full and I can see why. Friendly staff, good tea, excellent food and a lovely local relaxed atmosphere. I had the Bubble and Squeak with extra mushrooms and bacon, and it was lovely; good portion, well cooked.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said but I would like to add something anyway! Meadowsweet isn’t a cheap option when it comes to dining out. However, they say you get what you pay for, and this certainly applies here! Food is excellent and the team, both the kitchen and front of house, work seamlessly together to provide an exemplary experience.

What a wonderful find. We stumbled across Toast on our visit to Stortford and, together with our little dog, were warmly welcomed. We ordered coffees, a meaty breakfast and a vegan breakfast with an actual vegan sausage, a first for us! It is so refreshing to see a vegan breakfast on a menu instead of the usual vegetarian breakfast where you have to tell the staff no eggs etc (but normally end up paying for all the items you’ve not had anyway). This was the opposite, starts out vegan and you can build it up to make it into a vegetarian. Everything was lovely and we were even given a ‘doggie’ sausage for our fur baby. It is the little touches that make a big difference and very reasonably priced too. Highly recommend.

Last minute lunch decision and first-time visitors, we were met with a very enthusiastic front of house lady who turned out to be the owner’s daughter. Simple but extensive menu ranging from Oysters and Wagyu steaks and burgers and a good very good wine list. Its reputation for Sunday lunches is huge – intend to try that next. Starters were different in a very good sense and all our plates were cleaned – already booked for a birthday party in late Dec.

Fabulous location in beautiful village. Great service, drinks and food, especially the sandwiches. Highly recommended.
