Four of us went here last night with our 3 dogs and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere was perfect as was the music, service, etc. Paul (owner/barman) is a top man and couldn't do enough for us. They weren't serving food at the time but I've already booked for one of their Caribbean nights, can't wait. I highly recommend you try this place if in the area. Superb.

First class food (superb carvery), great atmosphere and good value, backed up by good service. The exterior is unpromising, but due for upgrade.

Although I have lived in the area for numerous years, this was my first visit. Why oh why has it taken so long. This has to be the best Sunday Lunch I’ve had in years. All wrapped up with a great unpretentious atmosphere and fantastic staff. Well done we will most definitely be back soon.

Eventually got to go on Sunday 13th been trying for ages. As you drive down the bumpy road(which has signs of work in progress) and pull up to a “portacabin “ you do wonder what you have let yourself in for but once inside the transformation is brilliant. We were greeted at the bar and asked what we would like to drink then shown to our table and told to help ourselves to the carvery. There was a choice of 3 meats pork beef and turkey and we asked for all 3 which filled half the plates then helped ourselves to the veg all of which was fresh not frozen and loads of choice, Yorkshire pudding crackling apple source and when we got back to the table were asked if we wanted any other sauces. The food was fantastic especially the beef as it was rear just how we like it. Reading the last person on here if something isn’t right then speak up as it can’t be put right if they don’t know . This was one of the best roasts we have had and will definitely be going back to sample the other parts of the menu. Keep up the great work

Went on Sunday for carvery after looking at reviews I was looking forward to going but although the food was well cooked it was not hot and neither were the plates it was served on which spoilt our enjoyment of lunch. I also noted that no sauces were offered which for turkey ( cranberry ) beef ( horseradish) they was however apple sauce on the top of the counter.

All of the complimentary comments for this restaurant are correct. Visited last Sunday for a carvery lunch. Roast pork, turkey and beef on offer with a very good selection of Vegetables and of course yorkshire puddings, all very well cooked and portion size is large. Homemade puddings included chocolate mousse and rhubarb crumble both absolutely wonderful. Great welcome from the team, very friendly, and really good value we paid £20 per head to include mains puddings and drinks and a good tip. Inside the furniture is rustic and all comments of don't judge a book by its cover are very true. This is one to watch by the way the owners intend to improve the business but do try it we were very impressed.

Had never heard of this place before but by word of mouth a few people mentioned it. So thought we would give it a go and see what the place is like. I admit on the exterior I was put off but as a few people had mentioned it so I was ready to not be put off. Inside the restaurant had a lovely feel and we had a very warm welcome. Staff were very accommodating but not too overpowering with it, the actual food was AMAZING - they really didn’t scrimp on the meat and it was cooked to perfection! All the vegetables / potatoes were delicious and plenty of choice. We can’t wait to go back!

Visited for a family Sunday carvery, been before a year or so ago and we were impressed then. Exactly the same this time around.......great food/drink, friendly welcoming staff......this place is as good as the crackling they serve with the pork...perfect! And to top it off even the mother in law loved it, believe me she's a hard one to please!!!

Visited this Sunday for the first time and as other reviews suggest do not judge a book by its cover. A very friendly welcome and the food was excellent. Organic freshly cooked and very good portion sizes. A hidden gem. We shall be returning

Looks a bit dodgy on approach however it’s clean and pleasant inside. The food was fantastic hot lots of it and if you need more you are encouraged to come back for more. I would class this as a hidden gem.

Fantastic food! Went there for a birthday celebration, looks are very deceiving because it does look like a simple roadside cafe. Inside is clean, tidy and the cavery was simply amazing. The staff are amazing as is the cat. My understanding is planning permission has been accepted for a near 2 storey restaurant which sits 3ft 6 off the ground and will go out over the river Ouse, perfect setting, perfect food, perfect owners! Will definitely be going back.

6 of us went for lunch today and I have to say it’s the best Carvery I’ve had The choice of meats were good and you weren’t limited to one The vegetable selection was fantastic and all were cooked to perfection and so tasty We all enjoyed our desserts and my Eton Mess was so delicious I wanted to lick the glass out!!! Definitely worth a visit but I would recommend booking first

Splendid service, staff friendly and a real warm atmosphere The price of the carvery is dependent upon the plate size you select staring from £4.99, what really made a change was the amount of meat they give even on the smaller plates Fantastic value for money

Have just had the most amazing Sunday Carvery in years. Not one of these meals from a large chain eatery but proper home cooked food. The Beef, Turkey and Pork were cooked to perfection, together with a large variety of properly cooked vegetables (not half raw). To complete the experience the staff were excellent and attentive, but not pushy.

First visit to this restaurant but definitely not the last. We had been there before many moons ago so knew where it was. Potholed track down to the river ended at a building that did nothing to whet the appetite. Surprise on entering welcoming staff fairly priced drinks and an appetizing carvery. 3 choices of meat and an excellent choice of well cooked vegetables plus great service deserves a return visit which by the way we have already booked twice believe me try it.

Have been here since they opened. Superb food, plenty of it and home cooked. The approach to it is not attractive and you will think you're on the wrong road. Keep going and enjoy.

Great time was had by all, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the food, " Carvery " was great and the desserts, did not disappoint. Clean plates all round and 15 very satisfied family members. Good idea to book in advance as it is getting popular and to miss out would be a disappointment .

Having driven down a dirt track I wondered if we'd arrived at the right place, seeing only a grey portacabin called 'River Canteen', however once you walk inside you are pleasantly surprised. They offer a good selection of drinks and the Sunday carvery offered a choice of beef, turkey or gammon, all looking delicious. They had nicely cooked veg, yorkies and crackling, which you were able to have regardless of your meat choice. The food was fresh, hot, and was like having a home cooked meal (without the hassle) all of only £11.95pp. Highly recommended!

Went with great friends down a gravel road to a boatyard to find a portacabin. Wondered what we were letting ourselves in for! After a great pint of San Migel we had what's best described as equally the most homelike/best Sunday roast I've purchased. I liked it to the rustic feel of the Florida keys. Absolutely brilliant!

Formally Daylock Marina, this has now been re branded as Wyton Moorings, and yes there is a great transformation happening, the "River Canteen" is now a welcoming place to sit and eat/drink, friendly staff, we only stopped off for a nosy and a drink, but will return as the menu looks great and the feedback from fellow drinkers in the bar was good also.

We have been eating from Platters since the doors opened many years ago, always fresh and tasty Sandwiches, Baguettes, Soups and Jacket Potatoes made to order not pre-packed. Never had a bad one and always good value for the quality you get. The Chicken Bushfire Baguette is my favourite and is out of this world! Just the best. Even if you just nip in for a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake you will not be disappointed!

Christmas lunch with our work group which was a group of 20+ yesterday, the service was excellent with receiving our three course meal within 2 hours of arriving, the food couldn’t be faulted and the Christmas decorations that were handmade were very impressive, will be definitely be returning and recommending 😊

Good service ,polite friendly excellent choice of food well cooked and presented. Not the cheapest place around but you certainly get what rou pay for. Like the fact that many of the dishes come with three types of fresh vegetables and there's is plenty of i. The mash is excellent especially with the added spring onion ( you get a choice with the mash. Had the home made shepherds pie today excellent . Will return again soon.
