Excellent breakfast with black pudding. Beautiful old building in an old smithy. A real hidden gem in the Peak District. Highly recommended. Very popular with walkers. Lovely friendly staff. Local butchers supply the bacon and sausages.

Great Food, Great Landlord, will visit again

6 of us were staying in a cottage directly opposite The George. We ate and drank here after soon arriving on the Sunday prior to New Year. All 6 of us ordered a different meal and none of us were disappointed. The service was very good and all meals arrived at the same time. We visited for drinks a few times during our break and it always felt warm and welcoming.

We were a family of 8 staying locally for a few days - we booked for 2.30pm on a Sunday, for lunch. We arrived on time, the pub/restaurant was busy. Once seated we were told there was only one roast dinner left! We were disappointed about this at this time on a Sunday, as we booked for Sunday lunch. However, we chose from the menu as no other options & the food was good!

Lovely friendly staff. Ate here twice while staying in the village. Food excellent. Cosy atmosphere with warming open fire . Staff made us feel very special on our wedding anniversary. Would highly recommend.
