We visited on a Friday lunchtime and there were plenty of bikers outside enjoying a drink and bite to eat but there was plenty of room to sit inside. There was a great menu choice with paninis, filled oatcakes, burgers, breakfast foods and a fantastic selection of local ice-cream and homemade cakes which looked AMAZING. Even though it was very busy outside we were served quickly and our food arrived in hardly no time at all. We had a full breakfast each, one of them being vegetarian, where, instead of the bacon and sausage there was a delicious cheese-filled oatcake (along with fried egg on toast, beans. mushroom and cooked tomatoes). The tea was hot and the vanilla milkshake was lovely. We got the apple pie and lemon curd cake to take away as they looked delicious! The lady who served us couldn't do enough for us and was extremely helpful and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit today (13/09/2024) and will certainly be back, thank you!

We were staying in Monyash for 5 days and visited this place every day. We either had breakfast, lunch or tea and cake. They also sell delicious ice cream. The filled Staffordshire oat cakes are delicious and the salads are lovely and varied. The food always tastes fresh and the portions are very generous. It’s sometimes very busy as it’s popular with cyclists and bikers, but the staff are always friendly. I can definitely recommend this place.

We came twice to this cafe, firstly for a cream tea (they only had one left, so we fought it out with a slice of warm apple cake with icecream!), and then another day for breakfast. It's a justifiably busy place, because the food is great, and the service friendly and welcoming. We'd go again!

Well, what a super surprise - jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad - huge potato, loads of tuna and a salad my vegetarian Mother would love! Staff all so calm, polite and friendly. Even though it was so busy, we didn't have to wait long for food, my friend's chips were also properly cooked - no soggy pale sticks here.

Fantastic little find - the young lady who served us was lovely, poliet and very well presented to serve food. (no hair dangling, clean hands & nails etc). Monyash doesn't have any shops just this gem of a tearoom a pub and church. The high light for us was the generous serving of Rum ice cream. Highly recommend to everyone young & not so young. Plenty of seating inside and out and toilets.

After a long walk, we popped into the cafe. The beautiful smell of bacon made my tastebuds tingle. The cafe was busy, yet my bacon butty and my coffee arrived quickly. The only grumble perhaps was the high prices - a cheese toasty costs £4.50 with no salad, just bread and microwaved melted cheese. Some meals could have had more effort put into the meal. I am a regular walker and visitor to the Old Smithy Cafe. Every meal that I have ordered (except the one-off cheese toasty) have been worth the money and are fabulous.

We stopped off for a late lunch and a cuppa after a 3 hour circular walk from Monyash. We sat outside on the picnic benches. The staff were really friendly and helpful even though it was very busy. It seems popular with locals as well as tourists. Lots of food on the menu to choose from and not expensive. They also serve alcohol. The village of monyash has lots of history to it and the Tea rooms are situated right on the small green in the centre of the tiny village. I've recommended the cafe to everyone I know who will be visiting the area. I would definitely go back.

I called in whilst out on a brekky run instead of the station at Grindleford. I wish I hadn't bothered, it was £4 dearer than Grindleford and whilst the food was good quality and tasty, I was given a mug of tea with old stains on the side and a fork that had dried food stuck to it. Not my idea of food hygiene.

A quirky and charming little cafe with lots of character. I had a vegetarian breakfast and my partner had a full English, both very nice and set us up for the day. A word of warning though, you need to wrap up warm in this old building. The cafe is short of a few home comforts and is drafty and cold with exposed stone walls and a front door which remains open. It looks like there’s a working fire in the building so perhaps that should be lit now we’re entering Autumn.

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
