We stayed nearby and walked in mainly due to its proximity and it ended up being such a lovely experience. They had pheasant casserole on as a special and it was so delicious! One of the best meals I had out in a while. The service by the young guy at the bar was great too. Highly recommend for some delicious homely food.

Charming pub and the food was lovely and good value for money. The chicken pie was one of the nicest I’ve ever had. Unfortunately our experience with the service was rather poor. We expected to wait for our food as clearly stated on the menu that food is cooked to order. However in the 2 hours that we were sat at the table not a single person asked if we’d like any drinks, and half an hour after we’d finished our mains we gave up waiting to be offered desert and decided to leave. We generally felt quite unwelcome. I’m not sure if we just caught them at a bad time but unfortunately this was our experience.

Very disappointing. £10.95 for a beef and horseradish sauce sandwich that contained a miserably small slice of thin beef. The overwhelming impression was that one was eating bread with just a hint of beef. To be fair my wife was more impressed with her fish finger sandwich (same price) and the beers were good.

A warm welcome, friendly service and delicious food! What more could you ask for? Visited with my mum and our two spaniels for a quick supper and both decided it was one of the nicest pubs (definitely the best in Youlgreave!) we’d been in for ages. Superb pies and the friendliest service. We chose to tuck ourselves away behind the log burner in the back room so as not to disturb other diners with our two boisterous springers, but could see what a happy, bustling restaurant & bar there was. Thoroughly good evening, young chap who looked after us was welcoming and genuinely friendly and the food spot-on after a day walking! Every time we’ve stayed in youlgreave the BH has been closed (our fault for coming Mon & Tues) but we’ve decided to only come on Fridays & Saturdays from now on just so we can come here again! Fantastic atmosphere ❤️

Really great family meal (seven of us) at The Bull. So welcoming, a ‘proper’ pub with fab, fresh home cooked food. A grade above pub-grub, the steak and ale pies were pronounced ‘the best’ and my fish pie was delicious. Lamb shank curry (I pinched some of my husband’s!) was amazing - and spicyyyy 👍 Thank you to the staff for their hospitality.

Excellent pub!! Jealous it isnt our local. We were here for a long weekend and were immediately made to feel welcome by the staff from the first visit, to each time we popped in. They chatted and took an interest where were from etc. Excellent customer service. The pub atmosphere is relaxed and cosy, the food delicious. Prices reasonable. We had a burger one night, Sunday had the roast pork dinner. Was generous portions and cooked to perfection. Plenty gravy on the roast. Sadly we were too stuffed for pudding, but they looked great too. It was my birthday the Saturday so were delighted they had live music. We really enjoyed it was a great lively atmosphere. We would highly reccomend The Bulls Head, and will be back in next time we visit the area.

Our group ordered a variety of dishes and everything was cooked well and tasted great. Really good quality pub food and generous portions. The homemade tartare sauce served with the scampi and fish and chips was the best I have ever tasted, I’m going to have to try and recreate it at home! I had a meal here on Friday tea time with a girlfriend. I ordered scampi and chips and my friend ordered the meat pie. When the meal was delivered I couldn’t believe my eyes, the chips were black and burnt and the peas were like bullets. I complained to the young lad who was waiting the tables, he was very pleasant and said he would get us some fresh chips. Our plates were not taken away and when the fresh chips arrived I had eaten my scampi. I was so shocked that the chef sent these meals out with black burnt chips. When I went to pay, I told the landlord that I was very disappointed with the whole meal, he didn’t even offer any reduction in the bill. I will not be going there again.

Having read the reviews I was looking forward to the Pie of the Day. For me its not just the content, the pastry is just as important. Unfortunately it was a big dissappointment. Whilst the veg was good the Rabbit pie could best be described as a soggy mess. It was dumped on top of the mash. The pastry was soft and broken up with no constituency. It may have come out of an oven with crispy pastry once in its life, but what I received looked like it had come straight out of a microwave. It was also swimming in over seasoned gravy. I appreciate it was 4.00pm on a Sunday, but this was not a cheap meal. So you expect it to be right.

I had vegan mushroom and chestnut pie with vegetables, mash and gravy and my husband had battered fish with chips and peas. The pie was lovely and the vegetables were very fresh (sometimes when you eat out you can tell the vegetables are nearing their expiry date) with tasty mash as a choice instead of chips or new potatoes. I was here for a family Sunday lunch. Service was ok if slightly disinterested and we weren't made to feel particularly welcome. There were unacceptably small portions of roast meat on all our plates, presentation was messy and our meals were swimming in huge amounts of lukewarm gravy. We were all unanimous that the main course, although tasty for what we had, was not value for money. Mint sauce came in a sachet which for the price we were charged is not on. Overall the place looks as if it would benefit from a good clean and sort out. I'm generally accepting of shabby chic but there is a limit. The wooden table we sat at was sticky and could have done with a good wipe down. Sorry, but I won't return.

We had a very good Easter Sunday lunch at the Bull’s Head. There were 21 of us, so we were given an entire room. We had our own section of the bar to order at and were looked after as soon as we arrived. The selection of drinks were good. A few local beers and then most of the global products you’d expect. The only thing they couldn’t provide was a Bloody Mary. The food did the job. The roasts were tasty and filling. We’ll forgive the overdone Yorkshire puddings given we’re not in God’s country. Others had pies, fish and chips and burgers and were all happy. The fish and chips and vegan pie kept the gluten intolerant and vegetarian in our party happy. The children had 5 choices which is above average. Fish and chips, scampi, sausage and mash, cheeseburger and chicken nuggets were all successes. The staff were all very friendly and looked after us well from start to finish. Not least the landlord, Martin. He has either read a few of the negative reviews and is making more of an effort or he’s a nicer guy than suggested. He was an excellent host. The pub itself is cosy. The toilets need a face lift, but the pool table and 2 dart boards offer traditional entertainment. Overall we had a great lunch. I feel the food prices are a little more than the quality, but that might be the Yorkshireman in me.

We had the pie of the day and the Gammon and Wow, the Steak and Ale pies were full of meat and tasty pastry, the gammon was proper gammon, thick and tasty, and the Chios and additional items were all great. Nice surroundings nice and cosy and the staff were all friendly and welcoming, wearing face coverings but you could still tell they were smiling underneath. Well done, will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

We visited in May 2021. We ordered the fried chicken to start which was delicious. My wife had the vegetarian Thai curry and I had the beer battered fish and chips. Decent sized portions and fresh cooked meals. Highly recommended

Popped in here whilst on a weekend away in the local area and had a great time. We sat out back after a walk in the local area and was blown away by the place. All the staff were extremely friendly and the whole place was very clean.I'm vegan and my wife and daughter aren't. The menu is very clear on what contains what so I could see what was suitable for me. There was only one dedicated vegan dish (a good looking curry) but as it was I settled on some chips and onion rings as I in more of a picky mood, that said I could finish them as they were huge. My wife had a brisket cob which in her words was immense. Even the kids chicken and chips was homemade. Looking at what everyone else was eating you could see it was all homemade and the portion sizes are bang on (don't eat a big brunch like I stupidly did before visiting).Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and in fact already have done!

Fantastic country, local, pub. Visiting the area for the first time I am so impressed with the friendliness of the staff on a chilly evening. We had a difficult mix of diets and ages(2-63) to cater for and nothing was too much trouble. Children’s fish and chips was substantial and tasty and the veggie pie was delicious! Thanks for a lovely evening

We called here for a meal after a lovely walk by the river. Food was good and service excellent and friendly. We sat outside in sunshine in a sun trap at rear of pub. I have to commend the cleanliness of the loos. I have never ever seen cleaner toilets in any establishment. I felt it was a very safe Covid environment.

Disappointed Sunday dinner today and it’s usually so good. It looked amazing. The roast pork was tough, the beef good. My roast potatoes were hard to cut up, they were too overdone. The vegetables were odd too, no red cabbage but over cooked ordinary cabbage, two sugar snap peas, one carrot and one bit of swede . There was one floret of cauliflower cheese and mine was stone cold. Everything else was lukewarm and topped with dressed rocket. I would have commented but wasn’t asked how the meal was. Hopefully it was just a one off as it’s a lovely pub and the staff have been great in the past.

Only stayed one night wish we'd stayed longer , staff were lovely helpful and friendly, our room number 8 was perfect spotless and clean everything you needed. Fish pond outside our room in the courtyard which added to the charm. Booked evening meal which was excellent, pub was very homely with log fire atmosphere very friendly. Will definitely be back for longer next time . Dawn , Steve and Penny ( the staffie ) Rollins .

Did book a table but didn’t really have to as we were there early there were plenty of tables free. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Lovely views and nice and clean restaurant
