I visited this pub about a week ago. No vegetarian options AT ALL on the menu; we managed to find a solution by having a veg starter stretched into a main course. I was disappointed by the attitude of the pub owner: she looked like she really did not care, and would rather be somewhere else. She was efficient enough at organising things but kept a stern face during the evening. The rest of the satff were sweet enough and friendly. Overall, not a great experience.

We had 2 meals here and they were both superb. The staff were very apologetic on our first visit as they had run out of some ingredients following a very busy weekend, however, they still had a wide range of choice even for a vegetarian like me. Food was homemade, staff attentive and friendly, Very welcoming in a relaxed atmosphere. Great value for money.

We enjoyed 2 well cooked meals in this pub. Staff were friendly and service was good. Food took a little while but was to be expected with the excellent quality of meals produced. Slight disappointment was that full menu wasn’t available each time but perhaps that is understandable in the cure uncertainty that pubs face. Certainly would return again.

We arrived 2 hours early thought we'd pop in for a drink after arriving in the village for our holiday cottage. The member of staff who greated us was very friendly and made us feel welcome we explained that we'd booked a table later for food and asked if it would be possible to change this to an outside table as it was a lovely day. The staff member was really helpful said it wouldn't be a problem asked us where we would like to sit and reserved it for later. When we came back for food our table was all ready for us, the food was amazing we shared the chicken starter with Chipotle mayo dip then my partner had fish and chips and I had steak. We couldn't fault it at all! It was amazing, we then shared a Bakewell pudding, a must have! All the staff where really helpful and friendly made us feel really welcome so much so we've booked in again for later in the week can't wait. Thanks to all the team!

What a refreshing change from our dire experience at The Peacock in Bakewell yesterday! Friendly and efficient service and tasty food. The steak and ale pie went down very well! When I questioned if my chicken burger was properly cooked the chef took the trouble to come out to explain and politely reassure us of the reason for the colour on the meat. Highly recommend for those who like a 'real pub' experience.

We had the pie of the day and the Gammon and Wow, the Steak and Ale pies were full of meat and tasty pastry, the gammon was proper gammon, thick and tasty, and the Chios and additional items were all great. Nice surroundings nice and cosy and the staff were all friendly and welcoming, wearing face coverings but you could still tell they were smiling underneath. Well done, will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Popped in here whilst on a weekend away in the local area and had a great time. We sat out back after a walk in the local area and was blown away by the place. All the staff were extremely friendly and the whole place was very clean.I'm vegan and my wife and daughter aren't. The menu is very clear on what contains what so I could see what was suitable for me. There was only one dedicated vegan dish (a good looking curry) but as it was I settled on some chips and onion rings as I in more of a picky mood, that said I could finish them as they were huge. My wife had a brisket cob which in her words was immense. Even the kids chicken and chips was homemade. Looking at what everyone else was eating you could see it was all homemade and the portion sizes are bang on (don't eat a big brunch like I stupidly did before visiting).Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and in fact already have done!

With a world in turmoil and the need to wear face coverings (which, when you’re as ugly as I am is a bonus) I decided to return yet again to the Bulls Head for Sunday lunch. In these challenging times it’s always refreshing to be greeted with a masked member of staff who for all I know is as ugly as me, and never know whether they are pleased to see you or not. However, the speed of being seated at a pre-booked table suggested I was welcome. Dom I ascertained as his name (bar tender/waiter and all round jolly good at his job) took our order for both food and drink. Within a moment drinks were served at the table without us having to lift a finger. Steering toward both beef and lamb (or as they say in these parts ‘a bit of both’) we waited patiently but within a short period the meals arrived stunningly presented and with a stylish pizazz. I do love the way the chef always sends food out that is appealing to the eye and after a brief period was definitely appealing to the palette. The key I think, is the way the vegetables are cooked and even the fussiest of eaters would swoon at the clever flavours. Please don’t take that meaning children would enjoy them as they most certainly wouldn’t. Far too complicated flavours to sustain an immature tastebud in between screaming their heads off and making the ears bleed of anyone seeking a lovely quiet meal in a country pub. In fact, I’d also suggest the flavours and depth of effort in presentation wouldn’t be suitable for dog owners either, seeking a need to take their family mutt into the beautiful countryside to disperse their pets dog hairs around clean bars and restaurants deep in the lack of understanding, intelligence and comprehension that there are people who don’t want to dine in the presence of a four legged thing due being allergic to both the dog and their owners. All that said, a beautiful meal, possibly one of the finest Sunday lunches in Derbyshire bar none served by some of the best hospitality staff in the business. I’ll definitely be back...

When I visit a pub nowadays the most important thing for me is seeing that covid rules are being implementented and adhered to. Therefore I wasn’t comfortable seeing a member of staff walking around the pub without a mask. I was then shocked when a customer without any face covering came in, walked to the bar, ordered a drink and got served at the bar. After finishing his drink he went back to the bar and got served again. I thought it was table service only.We left at 9.58 pm, the bar still had quite a few people in with full pints. The pub also has a room with a pool table, eight people were standing in this room playing pool, not one of them had a face covering.

Martin, Nicola and team are doing an absolutely amazing job in the current climate and the added pressure that has been put upon them all - anyone who criticises here seriously need to take a step back. If you are in the area pay them a visit you won’t be disappointed and if you are then you really must be hard to please. Food, drinks, service, cleanliness, organisation 5* plus. Went a couple of times with the family and its always a bit hit and miss whether the kids will actually eat the food. The kids menu is sometimes poor quality in pubs, so I wasn't expecting anything special. The kids both had sausage and mash. For the first time in a lonf time my lad ate it all up. He's not a big lover of mash, but loved this. Good quality sausages and lovely creamy mash and gravy.I had the chicken burger, which isn't something I usually order. It was superb! The Mrs would usually order this, but was put off as it contained brie. It works really well and the chicken was clearly freshly cooked. It was served in a brioche bun and I can honestly say it was the best chicken burger I've ever had. The Mrs had the duck salad starter and said it was beautiful. I was so impressed I said we'd be going again that week. The kids had the same (and ate it all). The Mrs took my recommendation and had the chicken burger, and I had the pie of the day. It was beef and Stilton and was absolutely lovely. I'd have loved to have tried their desserts, but was simply too full. We booked a table for both visits, which I would definitely recommend as some people were unable to find a table to order food. If you can't get through on the phone to book, look them up on Facebook and send thereti on draught. Good selection of gin too. Staff were friendly and polite. I would definitely recommend paying this pub a visit.

My husband’s pasta dish was microscopic - despite being the price of a main meal. He wss given an extra serving after we complained but the staff were ungracious about it. The landlady even made a disingenuous comment about it being a rich and buttery dish - when my plate contained a humongous portion of fish and chips. All the meat and fish dishes were generous. This is pathetic given how many people in the UK are vegetarian. They are not aliens. They have the same size stomachs and need for sustenance as the rest of the human race. A shame to have to leave a negative review as the food quality was extremely good.

A group of us were staying at the Youth hostel next door, so the Bulls Head was an ideal meeting place. I did ring in advance to warn that there may be 16 of us, arriving at different times, but I wasn't able to book a table. However, when we went in there was an area available at the back that was ideal. Food choices were good, at reasonable prices. The food arrived quickly (too quickly for those that ordered a starter as they arrived at the same time or after the main course!). I had a pudding, but was disappointed as it was obviously microwaved and quite dry. However, we all had a pleasant evening (beer was good, and a good selection of gins available) and staff were friendly.

Stumbled across this hidden gem located in the village of Youlgreave, a short drive from the market town of Bakewell & within close proximity of Chatsworth House. We rang ahead the 1st night & spoke to Martin, who was extremely helpful reserving a table for us in the restaurant at short notice. Nicola and Martin are the owners and really do an outstanding job to make your stay so pleasant. The hotel is very cosy and traditional with an abundance of charm & character. It's a home from home. It reminded me of my childhood when I would stay at one of my favourite Aunts in the summer who lived in a lovely old country cottage surrounded by hills. That warm feeling of being somewhere you hold close to your heart. Our room was a reasonable size with a nice comfortable bed & plump pillows with bedding which smelt fresh & clean. It was cosy but large enough for a sofa and table which had the TV on, and a well stocked tray of tea and coffee. The en-suite wet room had a shower, toilet and sink. Rooms were decorated nicely with coordinating towels and pictures. Downstairs in the pub one section of it has been turned into a cosy restaurant which doesn't lose the country vibe and good atmosphere that the other rooms of the pub provide. If you want somewhere to stay that is full of character & British tradition, somewhere you can relax, unwind, meet the local people in a cosy environment, and explore the surrounding area, this is the place for you.

The sticky toffee pudding was also very good indeed and nicely presented. My wife had a small fish for her second meal which was only just cooked inside and had soggy batter which was a shame - maybe a single mistake due to them being so busy {another pub in the village that did good food and accomodation has shut unexpectedly several weeks ago} possibly. We've paid many visits to the Bulls Head when walking based in Youlgrave. I really like it: the building is lovely- a proper old coaching inn. Very Pickwickian.

I’ve dined here a few times in the past week, including taking advantage of the teatime deals for £7. Good food, cosy lounge, a real fire, nice staff, good beer ... what’s not to love! A good choice if you’re in Youlgreave (or Youlgrave!)

We stayed at The Bull’s head in Youlgrave for the weekend. We booked a few months in advance as we’d been given a weekend away by our parents. We were going to have our young daughter with us and the staff were very accommodating of her. We chose this hotel as we’d stayed in the area before and loved it. We were informed that we would pay a little extra for a weekend stay with them but we didn’t mind as this was the only way we could make a stay possible.

We just stayed at the bulls head whilst visiting the Peak District. Great location for easy to get to attractions from walks to town centres . The hotel itself is exactly what you expect from the area, traditional, big open fire rustling away ,good pub grub and friendly staff. We felt very at home straight away and all staff was helpful , Saturday night all tables were fully reserved , but we had breakfast in the morning which was brilliantly cooked and served with a smile. Also catered for a vegan breakfast for my partner .

We booked a table here for Sunday Lunch whilst staying locally. It’s so popular locally that there were only 3 Sunday Roasts left for 5 of us. It didn’t matter as the remaining two chose differently.

We visited on a Monday night and received a warm welcome from the barman. The beers are excellent. We asked for a table for dinner and they were already quite booked up, but we found a nice table in the small bar. We ordered the home made steak pies and they were delicious! Lovely atmosphere, with dogs very welcome.

We found this pub while looking for places to stay, and booked a night in an upstairs room. We were greeted upon arrival by a friendly young man who also worked the bar later that evening. There is very little parking and we parked on the narrow street, but did not at all find this a problem and in fact a charming part of the village life. The dinner we had in the pub was very good and the room was clean and welcoming, with tremendous views. This is not a luxury hotel, but if you are looking for a friendly welcome in a homey environment, with good food and drink in the pub below, this is the place for you. If you are there on a weekend, book your table for dinner in advance, as they were full up and said that weekend evenings, this is usually the case. For good reason--it's a great place to have dinner and a pint!

We’ve been a few times now for drinks in the afternoon when we are staying close by, but today we had lunch. My wife had the special which was chicken cacciatore with parmentier potatoes and I had the home made steak and ale pie. The food was gorgeous and the service very friendly. We’ll definitely be back.

Accommodation and great breakfast next morning. Excellent evening meal on the the evening of our stay. The village is lovely and holds a lot of rural charm of the peak district. Our dog enjoyed her stay too. Parking was the only thing the hotel could not guarantee as not a large area. However, it was easy to find parking just out the front of the building. Would highly recommend.

The young man who served us was very pleasant. We had whitebait to start which was average - all batter and no whitebait really. We then had the special of a large steak with chips and salad and this was quite good. the steaks were cooked to our liking and very tasty. There was a good atmosphere and we enjoyed our the evening. honest value

Of the three pubs in Youlgrave we selected this one based on the best reviews and beer choice. The barmaid was so disinterested it was difficult to assess if we had upset her by just turning up at the midday opening hour. The beer was OK but turned sour from the barmaids expression, and quite expensive for this area. The food choice quite limited, but to charge £4.50 for a bowl of chips with a sprinkle of cheese on top was outrageous.

Easy booking on their own website which was better value than booking through any other website. Dinner was absolutely delicious, meat from a local butcher and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately couldn’t manage a pudding which is a shame because they looked and smelled amazing especially the fruit crumble. Accommodation was simple with everything needed. Beds very comfortable and we had a good night’s sleep. Breakfast again was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and all the food. The staff were welcoming and it had a real family atmosphere. My parents didn’t stay at the Bulls Head but they were still welcomed to join us for breakfast.

We went for a meal whilst on holiday. Not a large menu especially for vegetarians. I had the haloumi board. Didn’t feel you got much for your money but it was very nice. I saw someone’s pudding and they looked delicious. Friend had fish and chips which was a huge portion and he really enjoyed it. Traditional looking pub with a friendly owner.

This place feels like a proper old English pub with little nooks and crannies to hide away in. Pool, darts, peanuts, crisps and coke - really took me back to my childhood. A good selection of pub grub cooked fresh and delivered to the table in a timely fashion. Bar staff very friendly as were the clientele. Food was well cooked and very tasty. Would not hesitate to recommend.
