I wanted to treat my parents to a meal out and decided to pick the Castle after seeing their menu online. We were not disappointed. My dad loved the selection of cask ales available. We decided to eat off of their lighter bites menu which is really good value for money and the food tasted delicious. The staff made our visit very enjoyable and we will defiantly be returning and recommending this lovely pub to friends and family.

Only called for some food, as its dog friendly and has a car park. Not really disabled friendly as has plenty of steps, one of which my husband didn't see as he came in through from outside( bright light) and into a dimly lit place and didn't see the steps, and went a cropper cutting his hand ,but thanks to 2 people helping him back to his feet. This was one of the best Sunday roast meals that my partner and I had eaten in a restaurant for many years. The food was perfect ….. a turkey & a pork roast with all the trimmings ….. best yorkshires ever too ! The pub/restaurant was really busy on the bank holiday Sunday. But the staff were so switched on, courteous & efficient, that everything ran like clockwork. The fly in the ointment was a dreadful customer shouting & complaint at the landlady about contrived issue with meals. She was rude, disgusting & awful …… but the landlady dealt with her politely and professionally. I’ve heard that a complaint has been lodged by the so called customer. I heard EVERYTHING ! She is lying to cause trouble …… please ignore her ……. Was a fantastic meal & great experience …… well done castle Inn and staff ! 👍 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Management lack basic customer service skills. Very rude, obnoxious and would be better suited as a recipient of Universal credit. The other staff members reminded me of the walking dead film. They float around not really having a clue what day it is. Smells and is dirty so I'm guessing the cleaner is on par with the other staff members. Beautiful location but when you walk in you could easily be mistaken for being in a rough council estate boozer. Can't comment on food as from what I could see on other tables I decided having the runs on a bank holiday wasn't ideal. In response to your comment back; I have only wrote a review here and one on TripAdvisor. Hardly numerous. I felt it was important I made sure people whom do not always use Google and prefer TripAdvisor saw a true reflection of your establishment. You can clearly see from your responses on several customer reviews that you are very argumentative and obnoxious. Your embarrassing yourself.Sometimes you just got to accept you are not that great at your job.I honestly think a new management team need to take over and turn this place around.

Average at best Pub was heaving and told for a lengthy wait for food which is fine. However, we turned up for Sunday lunch and nothing available plus loads of other items off the menu. It’s Sunday and a bank holiday weekend so surely have enough food in. Food was mediocre. Lasagne a microwaved mess, gammon overdone and kids meals lacking any flavour. My pie was very good. Portions good. Staff clearly overwhelmed and kept forgetting things. Not somewhere we would return to

Would have given 0 stars if I could.. Absolutely appalling, The manager stood arms folded with other staff talking very loudly about people eating in the restaurant. And she wasn’t talking very nicely.. one point she got into an argument with a member of public because the manager was asked to stop!! She then got very aggressive.. so much so we packed up and left as she was so unprofessional.. some of the people I was with had autism and she made sure to make them feel Uncomfortable, I would even go as far as upset a lot of people.. not the right Attitude to have if working in food and with the public.. a smile wouldn’t go a miss!! Me and my family came from all over and they have lost out on a lot of money being spent in there.. I will not be going into a greene King again and I will not be visiting Bakewell again.. Stayed here for two nights with a friend. Check in (at the bar) was easy and the staff are friendly. Room and bed were large; bed was comfortable but, for me, the pillows were a little hard. We were in a front room, facing the road and it was quiet enough. There was also a fan in the room, which was a welcome addition, as it was a little warm. Shower wasn't very powerful but there was plenty of hot water and the towels were nice and big. Breakfast was included and this was nice and tasty and filling. Nice bacon. Plenty of room to park too I would stay again

Came to Bakewell for a day out and accidentally parked in this car park thinking the payment machine there was the correct one. Rang the bar today to try and clear up the error and the manager only wanted to try and blackmail me into revisiting and buying food and drink and leaving a positive review before she would cancel the fine off. Manager has a terrible attitude and staff are not helpful at all when it doesn’t benefit them. She wanted me to write a fraudulent review and spend money before cancelling fine. Would prefer to pay the £60 PCN before spending that in this horrible place.

The worst service I have ever had at a pub. When the food came out the woman plonked the plates on the table without a word. We were sat outside and I asked if we could have some cutlery. I did not realise that this was such a ridiculous request, the waitress then pointed me to what I can only describe as a barn door and said 'it's in there'. I thought she was joking but then realised upon opening the barn door that there was a trolley of cutlery in their storage cupboard. The lady then went in to get it for us and then immediately pulled the trolley of condiments out (all unwashed) and then left it about 5 benches away from our table. The single rudest member of staff I have ever dealt with. Food was excellent and the location too. It is just a shame about the dire service.

My wife and I paid a first time visit to Bakewell and I spotted this bar after crossing the bridge, but we enjoyed a circuit of the town first for some retail therapy. We returned to the Castle and were rewarded with first class service, very friendly and helpful staff and a glorious lunch. My wife had the sea bass and scallop with pea, courgette and mint risotto followed by sticky toffee and date pudding, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I opted for the Asian curry with chicken breast, and a slice of Bakewell tart with double cream, and a lovely pint of Greene King IPA to quench our thirsts. We were very impressed, and can recommend this pub and the team who run it, for their exemplary service.

Used to come here all the time and can not believe how down hill it has gone. We had a table of 4 for Sunday lunch and not one of finished our meal. Roast potatoes very dry and plain. Yorkshire pudding was soggy. Vegetables was poor. Has to pay extra for mash and it wasn’t creamy but dry. Stuffing inedible and dry. Paid extra for pigs in blankets and we fed them to our dogs as no flavour and again dry. And gravy was very stingy. The whole dinner had clearly been precooked and sat out for a long time and gone dry before it had gone in the microwave for a warm. Was very disappointing. Even the gin and lemonade was disappointing and flat! Service and staff was friendly enough but sadly we won’t go back. It cost £100 for the 4 of us. Very disappointing.

After a very enjoyable day followed by a lovely Sunday roast our afternoon was ruined by member of the staff constantly using the F word at the main door complaining about the F tourists! I was waiting at the front while my partner paid our bill when one of the staff came out smoking a cigarette with what I can only assume was a local client. The staff member said I’m sick of F tourists, we never get an F weekend off, I’m sick of them, look at them everywhere, it’s been F crazy today. The prices have gone up in every pub and we can’t hear ourselves speak. His friend was equally abusive about tourists and also sweating heavily saying every pub he goes in is too busy. This was all done on the front steps of the pub, a crowd of walkers were looking up wondering whether they’d be welcome I expect! Not exactly what I wanted to hear as I left especially as my partner and I had already said how lovely our meal was and what a great place it was. What these people need to think about is it’s the tourism that keep a lot of the overpriced places in business and maybe keep their opinions to areas less likely to be overheard by their very own customers?

Right near the river and in the centre of town, it’s a great location in Bakewell. It is very tired though and the room was a bit shabby. It also has parking which is a great bonus

Only stayed one night wish we'd stayed longer , staff were lovely helpful and friendly, our room number 8 was perfect spotless and clean everything you needed. Fish pond outside our room in the courtyard which added to the charm. Booked evening meal which was excellent, pub was very homely with log fire atmosphere very friendly. Will definitely be back for longer next time . Dawn , Steve and Penny ( the staffie ) Rollins .

Disappointed Sunday dinner today and it’s usually so good. It looked amazing. The roast pork was tough, the beef good. My roast potatoes were hard to cut up, they were too overdone. The vegetables were odd too, no red cabbage but over cooked ordinary cabbage, two sugar snap peas, one carrot and one bit of swede . There was one floret of cauliflower cheese and mine was stone cold. Everything else was lukewarm and topped with dressed rocket. I would have commented but wasn’t asked how the meal was. Hopefully it was just a one off as it’s a lovely pub and the staff have been great in the past.
