Popped in after a walk to Matlock and back. Had a pint of XB and a game of Pool

This is a lovely traditional country pub in Bonsall. The food is all home cooked, and the staff are friendly. The pizzas are thick crust which are not everyone’s choice, but my partner really enjoyed hers as we all did, especially eating homemade chips instead of oven chips you get in so many establishments. When back in the Peak District I would not hesitate to visit again. Thank you for a lovely meal.

The pizza was awful. I tried to leave a review on Facebook but it was instantly deleted. Honesty is the best policy. Check all reviews before visiting.

On holiday for a week in Bonsall made exceptionally welcome. Our Brown Lab Max was also made welcome too with a couple of biscuits on every visit. This is by a country mile the best pub on Bonsall. We tried the other one! Doesn’t come close! If you are Bonsall the Kings Head is the place to be.

We were given a warm welcome upon arrival and although a table had been allocated we were allowed to choose a table if we wanted which was lovely. We were spoilt for choice with a menu full of wonderful homecooked pub classics and enjoyed every bite, the chips are out of this world and service by the lovely young waiter was efficient and polite. Thank you for a wonderful dinner and dining experience and we will most definitely be returning soon.

Just spent 2 nights in Bonsall, and we ate in The Kings Head both nights. What a welcoming pub it is from both staff and regulars. Food was really good, very generous portions and great choice and a specials board. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be going back

How can a pub look so great from the outside yet so grim on the inside?

We happened upon the King's Head after a recent drive. And so we decided to visit with the family this weekend as part of a memorial walk in memory of my sister in law. Because of the Bonsall annual Carnival the owners would have struggled to accept a booking for 12 people on what is one of their busiest days, but nevertheless agreed to serve up chip cobs for us on Saturday, this - without taking a deposit and purely based on trust. Anyway we didn't let them down, and likewise they'd got chip cobs ready as we arrived. I'd like to think that courtesy of the amount of beer that we consumed was recompense for their trust in us. Naturally we'll be back soon, but the pub, the village and the carnival were all a delight and with this being the best pub in this charming village then I'd recommend it for having the nicest hosts. Thank you.

The ladies behind the bar were fab! So warm and friendly, with great senses of humour. Homemade chips were really tasty, as was the cannelloni.

We have just spent a week in Bonsall,walking around the Peak District with our black lab. We visited The King's Head every evening, and had a great welcome, excellent drinks and fantastic food. The locals made us feel at home, fussed the dog, and the barmaid was just great. Really friendly people and pub, we will be back.

Lovely pub, great food and great staff. Everyone was friendly and it was a nice, easy going atmosphere. The prices were great compared to what we normally pay here in the states and the food was well worth it. We would def go back again.

We had a week away in Bonsall and the Kings Head was a few steps away from our cottage and we visited a couple of times for drinks and food one night. The selection of beers was ok and the service from Charlotte was really good and friendly. We had the pizza and a pie off the menu which were both really good. We would definitely return here if we are in the area as it’s a great little pub.

Fantastic pub in a lovely village. Andy, Sam and all the staff made us and our dog very welcome. Fire was so cosy and welcome during a pretty chilly and wet stay. The locals love a chat and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome in this lovely village. Plus, the food here is fantastic!

What can I say about this little gem of a pub,the food is all delicious very good portions and tasty.everything bought is local products,we was staying in the village for a month on work business and we went though the menu and can honestly recommend this pub not just for the delicious food but all the different ales/ciders/beers plus the added bonus of the very warm welcome sam and Andy show you, plus every local has a warm welcome for you and will always happy to chat.well worth the visit if your passing though or staying in bonsall or surrounding area,

Great pub. Very friendly and welcoming. We had a takeaway and it was piping hot, ready on time, delicious and great value for money. The land lady was very welcoming and helpful too. Myself, fiancé and little dog visited on a Friday evening. The landlady and all staff were very friendly. Food was okay, good portions and lots of choice!

Lovely friendly pub with great atmosphere. We booked in for Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We asked for a small portion (good to have the option!) and were not disappointed! Plenty of veg and potatoes, and puddings were lovely. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Visited for a family dinner. Small local pub, but felt welcomed from the start. For a small pub, large menu choice. Portions were large, good quality and value. Landlady was very accommodating, even let our boys pick a TV channel I the restaurant. It’s was quieter at that point, so don’t panic! Nice find and would certainly recommend. Thank you!

What a gem of a pub, good beer, fabulous value for money food and friendly atmosphere . The staff were very kind and were happy to upsize a kids meal for our fussy 13 year old!

First thing was the really friendly staff, giving a great welcome. Family meal with a decent choice of beers, the Bateman XB was very nice. Food wise, I had an excellent Lamb and Mint Pie with really tasty mash. Rest of the family very pleased with their choices too. We will be back!

Reluctantly can only give 3 stars. The service was friendly, efficient and we didn't wait long for food. Portions were good and £5 for children's meals and £4 desserts were great value. But the quality of the two mains (steak and battered cod) was well below standard unfortunately.

This gorgeous little village pub is absolutely perfect. I wandered in, on my own, on the off chance of a vegetarian meal, and was treated to a full blown Sunday lunch. The staff are really friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is top notch (the portion sizes are insane!) I loved it and will definitely be popping in again soon. We need to cherish places like this and I intend to show my support.

Popped in here for the first time on Sunday after a walk. It was lovely and quiet, and they were advertising Sunday lunches, so I asked if they did a veggie option. Sure enough they did, so I ordered the 'small' option for £6.95 which wasn't small at all! It was a normal size Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious. BEST VALUE EVER!! The nut cutlet was actually like a rice/nut patty that had been fried off until it had gone crunchy round the edges - it was REALLY nice and very filling. I've struggled to find good vegetarian comfort food since I moved here - so this will definitely be getting a return visit. Welcoming and friendly, in a gorgeous little village. Instant fave!

Booked a table here for a evening meal on a bank holiday weekend. Lovely welcome from the landlady, proper traditional pub food and nice and quick service. Well worth a visit.

Five of us had dinner in here on Friday 5th May and the food was gorgeous. We had pies, steaks and they were all superb. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the portions were very generous. Visited whilst on holiday. Brilliant pub, Charlotte (barmaid) made us feel so welcome, great customer service can’t fault anything. Large selection of drinks, reasonable price with real fire. Our dog Kevin loved all the attention from locals and Charlotte. Highly recommend.

We turned up on steak night ( tonight) & had T bone steak & a fillet steak . Cooked to exactly how we asked & also the staff were wonderful & booked us a taxi home . This is a good pub in a lovely village. Nice selection of ales, good atmosphere and the staff are a joy, very friendly. The Sunday roast isn't the best we've had, the roast potatoes were aunt Bessie's type things and the Yorkshire puddings weren't homemade. Plenty of peas, carrots and cabbage though. Bit more effort on the roast and it'd be five stars from me.

We were staying about 8 minutes walk from here and thought we would pop in for a meal on a Tuesday night but unfortunately they didn't serve food on a Tuesday. The specials board looked so good that we returned the next evening and I had the Steak & kidney pudding chips and peas.....monster portion that I couldn't finish but absolutely gorgeous. My wife had the Chicken, ham hock and leek pie...same story...lovely. Very dog friendly and the lady behind the bar was very smiley and helpful. Loved the feel to the pub...they had a TV in the bar area, I'm not a fan but at least it had music on. Great proper English feel to the place and well frequented by the locals who seemed to love the food as well..Great price too. Nice decor...loved the domino clock.

We got a very warm welcome from the staff – and from the cheerful locals who were packing this proper country pub. There was a good selection of drinks – including some very unusual gins. The food was fantastic – particularly the root vegetable pie and the veggie tagine. The pizza we went for on our second visit was also pretty spectacular. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favour and head for The King’s Head.

The food was good and the staff very friendly. A lovely little pub. I wasn't very well and got worse as the evening went on. I knew I wouldn't have been able to walk back. My daughter had parked her car at the B and B and there were no taxis to be had. The lovely lady behind the bar very kindly offered us a lift. I am so grateful and would like to thank her again. I really don't know how I'd have gone on without her help.

Great carvery and friendly staff

Good food at reasonable price, friendly staff. Prompt service. Good selection indoor tables and Beer garden . Book on Saturday as gets busy. Small car park opposite. However we walked as staying locally. There is a car park near the children's playground which is only a short 5 min walk up the hill to the pub at the very most . As the road is quite narrow in places. Worth it in my opinion. Husband loved the ribs , the beer battered cod fresh and good range of toppings for the pizzas . All good. Would recommend if you in the area.

If you want a pub where you can come back to again and again this is it, a bit out of the way but only 10 minutes from Cromford by car the owners are fantastic and so is the food,we will be going again very soon and many more times after that.This place is a MUST.

Generally good lunch (for 6, all ages) but, having used Tripadvisor to choose, it didn't meet expectations. Three of us had the fish and chips and two of us thought it was OK (just) as it was a bit "wet". The third one stopped eating...
