We had an excellent dinner on a Saturday night. Both the steak and fish were perfect and could not be faulted. The chips were to die for!! The deserts let them down a bit since the panna cotta was perhaps overcooked and tge Etom mess unusual. In terms of venue, it is an inn with history going back to 17th century. Very interesting; on room has what looks like Jacobean panelling. Definitely to be recommended.

Visited this weekend. Very historic and beautiful pub. Young man at the bar was fantastic. He did forget our wine order to accompany the food but it didn't matter. A really pleasant guy. The young lady waiting staff, however we're, erm, distracted and not really interested in their roles. Great food though. Well worth a visit.

We went for a late lunch at the end of a hike and were so impressed, the staff were lovely and welcoming and the food was delicious. Nearly all the menu is gluten free or has gluten free alternatives which was amazing. They also catered for dairy free. We will definitely be going back. The new owners are doing a good job with this lovely old pub.

Decided to walk here from neighbouring Carsington during a recent long weekend away. Well worth the walk- stunning views en route, and a very warm welcome on arrival. High quality pub grub and an acceptable selection of wines. If you're in the vicinity and want some high quality, good value pub grub in a proper hostelry, this is the place.

Especially notable were pumpkin soup, hearty and full of flavour, and chunky chips to go with well timed steaks. Our nephew also commended highly the steak and ale pie. A cosy setting. In many ways a traditional pub - you won't find a wine list but the wine they offered was fine

The weather was kind so we sat outside with the dog (who was welcome inside too). A short blackboard menu of home cooked meals was good to see. We had booked a table in advanced and walked over to Brassington across the fields on the public footpaths. We were therefore ready to do justice to a Sunday roast lunch on arrival. Ye Olde Gate Inne did not disappoint in fact it surpassed our expectations. The quality and quantity of food was exceptional with service prompt and attentive. In fact the main course was so filling none of us could manage a dessert which for us is unheard of! Top marks to Ye Olde Gate Inne. If we are in the area again we will certainly return. Thank you.

Just had the best Sunday Roast !!! Charming Olde Worlde pub and after a warm welcome were seated next to a glorious fire with finely polished brasses. We all ordered a Sunday Roast with lamb, beef and turkey on offer. Heaps of freshly cooked veg including creamed leeks and carrots/ swede etc. The hugest yorkshires and the portions had us all beat. We were visiting a few churches in the area with a group of 10 friends and we had booked into The Gate for lunch. What a warm welcome we received. The fire was burning brightly in the grate, the brasses were gleaming and the tables were all invitingly laid out ready for our meal. The menu had lots of choice but most of us were enticed by the pie menu, steak & Stilton being the most popular with game pie and chicken & leek also chosen. The servings were so generous that only a few of us had room for afters but these also looked delicious . A good selection of real ales too. Excellent service and ambiance. Would thoroughly recommend. Thank you for memorable visit.

Disappointed Sunday dinner today and it’s usually so good. It looked amazing. The roast pork was tough, the beef good. My roast potatoes were hard to cut up, they were too overdone. The vegetables were odd too, no red cabbage but over cooked ordinary cabbage, two sugar snap peas, one carrot and one bit of swede . There was one floret of cauliflower cheese and mine was stone cold. Everything else was lukewarm and topped with dressed rocket. I would have commented but wasn’t asked how the meal was. Hopefully it was just a one off as it’s a lovely pub and the staff have been great in the past.
