Just had a lovely lunch here with my friend today. We were welcomed by Hassan, he was super friendly and engaging throughout. The food arrived quickly and was good. I recommend the battered cod and chips.

TBH, a little gem of a place - good hot food, a good selection of drinks, clean toilets etc, Nothing fancy but the prices are good as is the food - for example, you can get similar in Towcester for a lot more money !!

We were few diners on a Sunday when we stopped for a light snack. There were a few locals at the bar, but otherwise the pub was rather soulless and the bar staff not very well informed regarding the menu. Our snack lunch was freshly prepared, we did`nt see any cooked meals so can`t comment.

With a menu like that it will either be something rather special or a pretentious novice. It was the latter - the food was poor quality, interesting flavours that just didn't work. The cauliflower that came with the duck was grey mush. The steak was OK but the sauce and uncooked haloumi spoilt it. The chicken in the pie was grisley. The veg was either frozen or over cooked and smothered in a butter-like substance to mask the lack of freshness. The eating area was empty when we arrived yet it took over an hour to bring us any food. The staff getting drinks orders was equally slow and inattentive.

We decided to drop in for a meal at lunchtime yesterday. I was slightly apprehensive after a previous visit late last year didn't go too well. But as I am of a forgiving and tolerant nature I decided to give it another try. On entering the bar it had all the welcoming qualities of the Marie Celeste. There were only 2 tables occupied by diners in a very large restaurant area and what appeared to be a creche run for the benefit of the staff. We were approached by member of staff who had obviously no training in customer service. No smile, no welcome. She then proceeded to get our drinks order wrong, with no apology. When asked if we could see a menu, she pointed to the end of the bar. After taking a seat we were somewhat apprehensive about staying and ordering food, foolishly we ploughed on. I ordered at the bar and we waited and waited. We kept looking at our watches and I decided to interrupt the meeting in the creche to ask if there was any chance of our food arriving in the near future. I was informed after a few minutes that our meals would be ready in 5 minutes, the problem being the fish hadn't defrosted. We waited at least another 15 minutes and still no food. We paid for our drinks and left. I have never experienced such appalling customer service in a pub or restaurant. If there is a better example of how not to treat paying customers I have yet to find it.
