It’s a truck stop expect nothing more ! Parking facilities looked ok But they need to learn how to cook Had to send the beef roast back before I choked on the beef The manager came offered a new dish so chose the chicken wings which was choosing a dish the same price ! That’s another bad choice came with no meat on and wing tips intact ! They were fresh from the micro wave , drenched in the sauce and Luke warm chips Salad tasteless No sauces where available only salt and pepper as they think the drivers paying £31 night take them ! I’ll use the overnight parking if I have to ! but as for the food give it a wide berth

The staff are excellent, friendly and welcoming. The facilities are fantastic, nice showers and clean toilets. The food, however based on the mixed grill was absolutely shocking! There was plenty on the plate, but it all had just one taste.. burnt char! The pork was dry the gammon was black, and smelled like it was off. The chicken was moist but tasted awful (burnt char) the steak wasn't steak, it was just beef, and that was burnt too. The sausages were cheap and tasted nasty. The chips were dark brown and overcooked, they just tasted like dirty oil, it was supposed to come with peas or beans, I got neither. I would never order that again here, they obviously don't clean the grill down properly, it was the worst mixed grill I've ever had. I did get an apology, and an offer of a drink, or something else, but after tasting that I lost my appetite. No offer of a refund. I paid for overnight parking (£31)and it came with meal voucher (£6). I forgot to redeem it when I paid for the rubbish mixed grill, and even after complaining about the state of the meal, they refused to honour it against that meal, and told me that I'd have to buy something else if I wanted to use it I'll be thinking twice about eating here again, despite the other good reviews. YUK in my experience.

I hadn't been there for years, but heard that it had won the Best Truck Stop Award , so being fairly local I went to have a lookvaround. Wow, is it the sqme site? Majorly different, parking well laid out and markings easy to see. The interior is immaculately finished with ample space between and around thectables. The bar has a wide range of drinks, but I am not a fan of this type of establishment selling alcohol given the client base. The prices of facilities and refreshments is higher than I expected, but this site must have cost a great deal to get to and now to maintain. The owners should be proud receive the Award, let's hope other sites learn from this one. I will try to find out who the other sites were in this competition.

One of the best truck stops in the UK.. great food great shower and a decent pint. The staff are very friendly and it’s a go to place for me when in the area..

One of the better truck stops in the UK.. joy to get to stop here from time to time.. getting away from the motorway services who don't seem to care about anything but money.. Friendly staff inside and out.. good food morning and night. Great showers, frequently cleaned which is unheard off in this country..

I haven’t stopped at the red lion for a long time so I popped in for breakfast . I found the breakfast tasteless the beans had no taste the hash browns were over done and the sausages didn’t taste good . It’s a shame because it use to be good

Top truck stop cracking curry showers are clean. This place is very very busy you need to book if your going be parking. Pub is ok for beer and has a shop

When you serve your breakfast on a plate why do they not use proper cups for your tea what a let down and not great for the environment

What a feast. This is a great establishment for anyone to eat as there’s something for everyone. What a choice of dishes. There were plenty of healthy options, hot and cold food and nice desserts. The food was fresh and tasty and the portions generous. Staff were very welcoming and checked everything was to our liking. We’ll be back.

I had just flown in from Canada after a two day trip to the US. I wanted a proper English cook breakfast and had given up on the service stations. My lovely wife found me this truck stop and although it is well out of the way I went for it. Amazing food, really friendly people, clean showers and toilets so well worth a monster Detour.

As a truck driver finding a good place to stop is a nightmare, some times you get lucky other times you wish you’d stopped in a lay-by . Tonight I wish I’d kept going, parking is with out doubt dangerous, you are blocked in and unable to move, the greed to get a few extra trucks in is with out doubt a incident waiting to happen. Parked in the middle surrounded by trapped trucks is a highly flammable fuel tanker, and if , God forbid , something was to happen it would be the end of 50/60 trucks and maybe their drivers. As for the food, well I wasn’t impressed. I settled for the gammon which was salty as hell, and according to the chef it’s always salty so maybe someone should tell him you have to either rinse or soak gammon to remove the salt, thought all chefs would know that . But to be fair I don’t know what the rest of the menu is like. The lady behind the bar was really nice and helpful so the only real issue needing to be addressed is the over night parking as once in you have no chance of getting out when YOU want

What a hidden gem! Following a mistake where we ended up trying to check in to the wrong red lion pub for the night we decided to do a spur of the moment tour of all the nearby ‘red lions’ in the area (there were 11 of them!). This turned out to be our third stop on the tour & we loved it! Totally unexpected to find this is actually like a pub inside with the beer & massive food portions. We got chatting to a few truckers who all seemed very happy to stop overnight there. Especially with the shower facilities & even a laundry room. There is even a little shop inside with merchandise. The ladies toilets were also impeccable, the sign of a great pub! Such a novelty factor to find this place but we will definitely call in again when passing by.

Ordered the lightly battered cod £8.95 got 2 well done frozen whatever it was it went back and 10 minutes later 2 more frozen whatever it was came back with cold chips and peas will not be staying there again will go up the road from now on the food here has really gone down to what it use to be

Whilst the Restaurant is nice for food ..Different varieties and Motorway Prices .. THE PARKING IS A NIGHTMARE .. FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 5 WEEKS CANNOT GET OUT FOR MY 5 AM START ..Boxed in by other trucks the staff have parked in the way .. If I need to leave at 5am why park trucks that are leaving later in front of us ...Both trucks to the Roght and left of me also can't get out .. YOU HAVE LOST MY BUSINESS I AM AFRAID

Great breakfast just off the M1. It's a no thrills restaurant with a sizable menu. Staff are friendly. The all day and full breakfast are much cheaper than a service station.

Food was really good large portions and very reasonable price,also very clean will be going again 👍🏼

Whilst out on a wedding event, we had some sparex time so decided to stop here. It's a large place for truckers but they do a great cuppa and lovely bacon buttie. Will definitely go again if in area.

Stopped here for breakfast during our journey and had a full English breakfast. The service was quick and efficient and the breakfast was made up of all the classics (Toast, Beans, Tomatoes, Egg, Bacon, Sausage). The bacon was nice and thick and had been been cooked on the steak grill giving it that charlined look and taste which I loved and had never had before. My only let down was the sausage which I felt looked and tasted a little on the cheap side, the breakfast would be greatly improved if they used a proper local sausage. Overall a very tasty meal and I would stop again if I was passing at that time of day and needed breakfast.

Good cafe food clean toilets often stop here it's a lot better than the motorway services.not posh but good food and no crowds

To be honest I was totally disappointed with the meal. My Steak was only just warm when it came out but my chips and beans were piping hot. Mentioned it to the very tall young man clearing tables but I am not sure he understood me. Truck parking was very quiet and secure. Next time I will order a takeout I think.

This place is "as it is ays on the tin". Hearty sized food at happy heart prices. Portions are large and the beer is cheap. No frills good value lunch to fill tummies. The chef however does need some American diner guidnace on frying eggs! They should always be runny on a breakfast!Great parking, great welcome.

We always order breakfasts on Fridays and this place is a clear winner. I recomend the belly buster, always hot and large portions

This was my first visit in over 12 months and what a difference to the truck park, no longer do you think you are driving on the moon. I have avoided here a couple of times recently as I was not aware the truck park was now super smooth. A great big thank you to your yard Marshall he really helped me out of a tight spot last night, thank you. If I could I would give him and the parking 5/5, but I have to grade my visit overall and surprisingly my food was poor! Nothing fancy, Lasagne chips and beans, which was dry, spicy and lukewarm. Not what I expected or needed after a 15hr day. Disappointed this time.

This place is fantastic as a truck stop or call in too n from where u are brilliant staff owners are amazing say no more

The The staff are very polite helpful love the staff the food was very nice I had hunters chicken a big chick breast plenty of bq sauce plenty of chips cooked to perfection and just enough cheese and beans the bar is very nice the beer £2.50 pint kronenbourg can’t fault that the atmosphere is very nice the showers are separate showers very nicely tiled Plenty of space I would definitely recommend this place to any trucker that lives in there cabs only one little down falls is they don’t do a carvery on a Sunday if they did that this would be the best truck stop in England this is a little gem of a place I only hope they don’t get greedy and start putting the prices up if the do then it will go down on my list hopefully that doesn’t happen keep up the good work there’s not that many places in England where the staff and the food is as good as this p.s do not get greedy love the truck stop

Attending the Scarecrow Festival in Harpole, we decided to have a good breakfast, just to set us up for a busy day giving the visitors a fun day on a lovely old open top Routemaster Bus. A great place, good food, good value - I will return again.

Chose from the menu ' oh my cod ' the only thing oh my cod about it was did I actually just spend nearly £8 on that watery crap that probably came from asda or Iceland !!! Very poor effort,

I keep using this truck stop because it's great value for money and I probably always will but come on owners its time to sort out the parking. In the summer months its really dusty and in the winter months its a mudbath both of which are a pain to the professional driver so come on get it sorted as my loyalty is being tested..

Great Food here for the price that you pay - £6:90 approx for the mega breakfast - 4 bacon/3 sausages etc - see photo

been meaning to stop here for ages. and was worth the wait. i ordered the 10Oz rump rare-med and it xame out perfect and arrived quick to. only complaint will be the Dark fruits didnt taste great. a line clean is needed. but overall if im passing here ill be staying here the night

Came here with my husband while on our way out loading his lorry. We both had a breakfast each and was very nice. The lady at the till was very polite. Definitely recommend

The owners have spent a lot of time and money on this iconic old truck stop which has been there well over my 30 years plus career. I remember it back in the day when it was still a cracking little truck stop but it's 10 times better now with proper showers and amenities..the lorry parks never changed, just bigger but still bumpy hopefully that will change in the near future.britain's wagon drivers have historically been treated poorly when it comes to parking facilities but the red lion is batting for us so well done to them.i will continue to frequent this old classic ontil its time for me to hand back the keys and walk away.. there's money to be made in secure cheap lorry parking I just wish there was more red lions around the country...

Grate value but was aware of flys turned out to be mosquitos got bitten six times in as many minutes it Will be along time before I go backward

If you are driving anything bigger than a VW Kombi the Red Lion should be on your food and accommodation list/app. Good value food/drink/company. Car park dusty or muddy depending on weather. Cam park up to 100 HGVs.

Great food, good bar area showing most football matches. £2 a pint when game is on. Parking area leaves a lot to be desired tho.

Been coming here over 30 years had many happy days years ago popular place to stay for truck driver just had a refurbished and I still stay there in my truck and enjoy the company and food my only complaint is the rocky park could do with some flatning but by that it's good

Great value for money truck stop.Travelling down the M1 and needed food late on. Checked my satnav and this place popped up as the nearest place. I'm really glad it did because I call anytime I'm anywhere near.Great atmosphere, good value food, showers, rooms.

Running out of time, I was told that this was my nearest option & what an option! I will leave the lorry parking out it as it is potholed, but plenty of space for someone who hasn't quite got reversing an artic up to scratch yet! The facilities however are the best I have encountered so far, there is even a cleaner who "refreshes" the showers after the previous occupant, so a nice, clean, warm, private shower room with sink & plenty of space to "sort yourself out", hot water & plenty of pressure! The layout of the main area is a pub with extremely friendly & helpful staff. I didn't eat, but the food looked & smelt fantastic, next time I will eat! This place sets a standard that others should follow & I for one will certainly use this place again.

We found this by accident a few months ago taking a diversion off the motorway and have now eaten here a dozen times. The food is good, cheap, plentiful and arrives quickly. There is masses of choice. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Bear in mind that this is a truckers cafe, so not luxurious. You help yourself to tea, cutlery and condiments. But so much better than a service station.

I've used the red lion for years. It's been transformed from a run down cafe to the gem that it is today. The food is phenomenal, if you've had a bad day or week just call in for a meal you'll feel rejuvenated when you leave. The staff are so helpful and the facilities are spotless. The car park is crap but that's next on the agenda I believe. Good security, a bar and toy shop what else could you need

My friend an I just had two brilliant meals.Chicken Tika Masala with Poppadoms Naan bread and Mango Chutney washed down with a pint. Quite the best meal I've had in a long timeThe staff were very good ThanksMartin

Good food, good staff ,clean showers, friendly atmosphere and fairly prices only down side is the parking area is a bit uneven but you soon forget about that when u taste the best truck stop food in the uk !

I like to use truck cafes as generally the food is good and well priced and this is a typical lorry drivers cafe.Good food - good prices - good value. You cant ask for more.

Stopped for breakfast at this truck stop.Service was quick as we were in a rush anyway ,cheap and hot food .Could do with a veggie option .

For those with a good appetite. My partner and I regularly visit for a big , good value fry up. The menu is diverse and the renovations have turned out really nice, with a modern, yet slightly eccentric feel and a pub atmosphere. This place must be a stop for lorry drivers to look forward to. My only suggestion would be to get some proper ground coffee as an option.

It is what it says it is, a truck stop, but certainly with a bit of a difference. The standard breakfast is very good value for money. Service was quick and mug of tea very nice. I will certainly be dropping back in for a breakfast
