Very disappointing. Overpriced, poor food. Very small portions and extremely bland. Asked for some compensation as my fish (pollock) was so small and probably one mouthful of fish to the rest greasy batter. My lunch partner also complained of the very small portions. We were told it was because they catered for older people who complained portions were too big!!! Oh dear... service charge too. Don't bother. I'm all for supporting the hospitality sector in these difficult times but really, this is taking the mickey!!

The Narrow Boat was an ideal halfway meeting place for two family members coming from Nottingham, meeting up with us from Oxford. The food was good, better than anticipated and the staff pleasant. However, my 26 year old daughter was refused a medium glass of wine with her meal as the waitress thought she was under 18. Unfortunately my daughter hadn't bought any ID with her and was therefore unable to verify her age. Although, within the licencing laws a 16 or 17 year old is allowed a glass of wine with a meal in the company of an adult. I was informed that The Narrow Boats policy is no alcohol at all for under18 year old, with or without a meal. In our case, a 26 year old without ID. This was not mentioned on their website but we had to accept it. However, for my daughter it was insulting, as she has never, ever had this issue in the past, even when she was 18

The staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. I arrived in a wheelchair and the manager held the doors open for me and made me feel very welcome. Ignore all the negative comments . Will definitely go back when in the area again. Would have been nice to sit outside by the canal, but it was late in the day and getting dark. Never mind. All in all a pleasant experience.

We stayed for 1 night in a chalet at the rear of the carpark, there was 1 issue on arrival of which was delt with instantly. The beds were comfy ( we had a twin ) there was no noise from the pub. We ate at the pub that evening starting with lemon and garlic chicken wings, yum followed by lamb chops on a bed of mediterranean veg and cous-cous, so much flavour in the cous-cous and the chops, fabulous, would have again in a heart beat. The staff at the pub had a smile and time for us, an exceptional stay at a very fair price.

Waited forever to get our meals. Once they arrived we were very disappointed!!! The steaks were over cooked and not very big portions for two grown men. The chicken and chorizo skewers were incredibly dry. Couldn’t even wash the food down with any drinks because of the queue at the bar. We certainly won’t be returning anytime soon or recommencing it to any of our clients from our marina which is very local to the pub! A real shame as the garden is a lovely feature over looking the canal.

Stopped for lunch, on the way back up north. A lovely unassuming pub. The staff were excellent. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. If you are passing on A5 is worth a stop. I recommend the salmon. It was delicious.

Lovely sunny day for a mid week lunch so we sat outside on the attractive patio under a large umbrella. Unfortunately that overlooks the A5 rather than the canal, but if you would be happy with a bench rather than a chair there are plenty of those overlooking the canal. We ordered lunch which came quite quickly. The food was okay, nothing special just basic pub grub which we enjoyed. Price wise it’s a bit over the top for what you get and with a little thought they could easily make improvements that would justify the prices. Overall we had a nice lunch and would be happy to go there again.

We were staying at the Narrow boat whilst visiting Silverstone. The staff were very welcoming and friendly on arrival. The room was just what we needed. We had dinner in the pub. Again staff very friendly and food was fantastic. We had certain needs and it felt like nothing was to much trouble. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the area or somewhere to eat. Only slight criticism, they don’t do breakfast, but otherwise fantastic. Will look to stay here again

Under new management, the welcome at this pub could not be more friendly. One of the best canal side pubs we’ve found, we’re always impressed by a pub managed by the chef. They live and die by the quality of the food and this food is good quality. I mean really good pub food. The ale is good too. They not only need your support but they deserve it too. We have just visited for the second time in a week whilst passing on the boat (it’s a Narrowboat Julian) and were equally impressed the second time round.

What a lovely pub! Went for lunch today with my husband, son in law and two dogs. This fabulous pub is very dog friendly and very coeliac friendly. The food was freshly cooked and was delicious. The staff was very knowledgable about my dietary needs and guided me through the menu on what was gluten free with ease . Rosie our waitress was so helpful. The food was reasonably priced and was served hot and presented beautifully. We had starters mains puddings and coffees. They even had doggy ice cream for our dogs and the staff Julian and Rosie gave them lots of treats.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. The room is tired and needs a good refurb but I understand that is happening soon. The room is a chalet style room away from the main building which I hadn’t realised - I would have preferred a main building room but hey ho! The room was comfortable and basic but had everything in it that was needed. The shower was hot with excellent water pressure and the bed was comfortable. There was a kettle and plenty of coffee/tea and biscuits. For the price it was never going to be the Ritz but suited our needs for the time we were there. The breakfast was good. We opted for the Narrow Boat breakfast which was enormous. The staff were really friendly and welcoming so overall we had a good experience

This pub/restaurant was picked using a 'halfway between' website as we were meeting friends from Lichfield. Their website looked good and so we booked. The tables were sticky, presumably as a result of too much sanitiser. The menu was not extensive but adequate for all tastes but the food was not presented well and one order of lamb burger looked pathetic. My fish was overdone but as we had had a fair wait for service we persevered. Desserts were ok, but I question the brain of the chef/server in serving my ice cream dessert on a red hot plate. We are not food snobs - we ask only good food at reasonable price - The prices here are expensive for what we were served.

I visited with my partners family on Sunday 3rd September. I ordered the Prawn and Salmon salad and requested avocado instead of asparagus. Initially the kitchen sent out the wrong dish, the avocado and mango salad. At that point after seeing the salad maybe I should have cancelled my order for salad as all I could see was a plateful of chopped leaves. When the requested salad arrived it was hard to find any salmon and certainly no prawns. The salmon when found, probably amounted to 1 slice and what there was was stringy and poor quality. The 'prawns' were what I would describe as shrimp and amounted to roughly 8 in total which would have equated to almost a normal sized prawn. The chopped leaf contained some browning pieces and some rotting pieces. The wait staff were not at all concerned at the 'meal' I was presented with. Unfortunately because I didn't want to make a fuss I meekly accepted this, my fault I know, but basically I was robbed of £14 and left hungry. Please, please, please avoid this overpriced experience and dine elsewhere. I'm only sorry that I didn't take photos to back up my review.

Family group of 4 for lunch. Overall 3/4 were OK with our experience. The menu was somewhat limited to begin with and sadly there were a number of items unavailable which reduced the choice even more so we did struggle to find anything interesting. I decided to try the Vegan Steak (I'm not a vegan or veggie but always willing to try something different), when I asked what it was like I was told it was made from mushrooms and very similar to a normal steak in texture and flavour. I was SO disappointed when I was served up with a single chunk of Lions Mane Mushroom that looked like a soggy lump of cauliflower that had been charred on a grill, it had absolutely no flavour and was watery and mushy. In fact I would have been happier WITH a lump of cauliflower, at least it would have had some flavour and texture, how they managed to decide to call it a Vegan Steak is a joke and beyond me. Definitely not worth £15. Hopefully they change up the menu soon as I personally wouldn't bother again until they do.

After being embarrassed by all of the above when we met friends for drinks and then (stupidly) decided to stay for food, and being let down on all fronts, we now will not be back. Two part review Hotel - chalet style room with stable door. The good - had tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits, nice touch. Had complimentary shower, conditioner and body wash. Towels were adequate, shower was hot. Nice location near Grand Union Canal, easy to get to just across the bridge. The bad - no mattress protectors, which I was not happy about. No breakfast was on offer, despite confirmation email saying it was. The ugly - the floor was carpeted but was not pleasant to walk on, I went to the car to get my slippers which luckily I had with me. Has promise but is in need of refurb. Restaurant for dinner Waiting staff were brilliant, professional, efficient, chatty but not in your face. The food was tasty and good sized portions, our only comment was the burgers took a little too long to be served. Updated this would be a great place to stay.

Giving this a one star feels like a star too many. After a lovely sunny day we thought we’d drive out to The Narrow Boat for a drink and a pizza. When walking in we were asked for our food and drinks order at the bar - this was before we had even sat at a table. Once sat down outside (food can only be served on certain tables) and realising that all the tables you can eat at are in the shade and with a cold wind we asked to move inside. The waitress pulled a face that almost said ‘that’s not ideal’ but reluctantly let us move indoors. We had been sat down a few minutes when I assume what was another waitress (although not in a waitress apron but a scruffy looking blouse) came and told us the table was reserved and we had to move. Nobody else turned up to this table during our visit. We moved to the only other free table which is in the middle of the conservatory and feels like a roundabout with people walking around, in and out the door. Our drinks were forgotten but after reordering they did turn up, we’d been sat at the table for about 15 minutes when a waitress came over to offer us menus. We explained that we had already ordered. We were surprised that she had assumed we hadn’t ordered but still took 15 minutes to offer us a menu. Another table left during this time and we asked if we could move to the empty table, out of the way. We were told she ‘couldn’t sit us at a dirty table’ - instead of clearing the table it was left until another family came in from outside and asked to sit there, at which time it was cleared and cleaned down for them. At this point we felt so disappointed with the staff attitude and general lack of customer service that we agreed if we hadn’t already ordered food we would have preferred to have paid for our drinks and left. Our food arrived and was fine - a burger and a pizza. We didn’t wait for the bill, we went to pay at the bar. After everything we just wanted to leave. At the bar we were told to ‘wait a minute’ by a waitress who did not return. The guy behind the bar, who seemed helpful enough, asked another waitress to help us. We paid £40 for a pizza, a burger and two drinks. It will be the last £40 we spend here. The food wasn’t bad but the staff let this place down.

So very disappointed! This used to be a wonderful place to come and have a good pub dinner. Sadly no longer. Food took an age to come out. Sword fish was tiny, we ordered a portion of chips to go with it. The chips came out long after we had finished our dinners! The fish cakes were just balls of mashed potato’s with no visible fish. Crumble was puréed fruit with what looked like the bottom of a biscuit tin sprinkled on top! What has gone wrong?! When the lady cook was here the food was fantastic!! But now it’s awful Sadly we will not be returning. The last three times we have come here this year have just got worse and worse

I was looking for a pub as a halfway meeting point between our friends and us. The Narrowboat was the perfect halfway point (an hour for each of us) This was our main reason for booking plus the view of the canal and longboats was...

Visited for Mother’s Day and had afternoon tea. As soon as it came out it looked awful. It did not taste any better than it looked. The sandwiches were inedible and the cakes were not cooked properly. Service was slow and unprofessional no one had...

Abysmal. Don’t come here to eat. Don’t be deceived by the cover photos this is not what you receive. This place has deteriorated faster than living costs. Living locally we used to come here often for the rather tasty tapas. However the menu and I...

Nice pub in a great location. Good selection of dishes on the menu, although they ran out of several item, which for a Friday night is a bit disappointing. The staff were very pleasant, and rather attentive. Wide variety of beer and ale on offer.

We booked for 7.30pm for 4 including our two guests. We shared two starters which were both very good. Of our four main dishes, one was mediocre and for the other we asked for the dip to be on the side only. It wasn't and the dish was rejected. It returned quickly, which made me wonder how it could have been recooked. Neither of the two waiters checked if it was OK. There were no specials which I like to choose from and the massala fries only had a sprinkling of salt and pepper. We were given dessert menus but the waiter did not return for the order. We had to come to the bar for the bill. On leaving, we noticed the waiters were busy cleaning another room. It's unlikely we will return, particularly with guests. If you needed us to leave at a certain time, you could have advised us when we booked on the phone. Meal with 2 alcoholic and 2 soft drinks £107 plus service. NB This is the response we gave to an email requesting feedback. We had a reply saying it would be investigated and we will receive a response but nothing.

We had a really lovely B&B stay here. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub - so nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and cosy bed linen. The breakfast was fantastic - a perfect old school English Breakfast - with butchers sausages and black pudding, eggs cooked how you like them, hash browns, tomatoes..... Yummy. The staff made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after. They were particularly kind to our children - sorting them out with Hot Chocolates and unusual breakfast requirements. They even went to the trouble of posting home some much loved cuddly toys that had been left behind. Thank you Billy and Team.

I thought I would try this pub one more time seeing as it's the only one in the village yet again the nasty individual thatworks/runs this sespit was at it again. This time it was a lone man. Absolute disgusting behaviour. Why is the brewery employing someone who knows nothing about hospitality or village live. Time to boycott till the brewery steps in.
