Cibo ottimo e tipico. abbiamo ritirato il cibo qui grazie al ns tour organizzato tramite jetyourguide (con partenza da Inverness, con destinazione isola di Skye).
bravissimi e la signora è veramente molto cordiale e sorridente
Not really the best meal. The scallop and pork belly starter was disappointing and cold. Scallops weren’t really cooked well and pork belly was cold. Pumpkin puree and other sauce didn’t really work. I ordered the venison and it was hands down the worst I have ever had. Extremely chewy. The waiter appeared new and when I asked if there was a Pinot nois on the wine menu he simply replied ‘I don’t know’ and walked away. I wouldn’t go back.
Cannot believe this gem is hiding in plain sight in Arbroath. Great value and delicious!!! Really nice menu choices and picked up a nice bag of coffee to take away too. They leave out the used (washed out!) big tins of tomatoes they use: really cool to repurpose! Kids loved their own pizzas, which are a great size. Will be back!
We were three adults and I had pre booked online for food. We arrived 15 minutes before our booking time and were asked to get a drink from the bar until the table was ready which was perfect for us .. until I just couldn’t get served. Yes it was busy, but there seemed to be plenty of staff working. People were being served around me and I was openly ignored, I just couldn’t understand it. I was stood towards the end of the bar where there was a notice that said it was a staff only area but someone had been served from both my left and right sides so I didn’t think it was that. When I said that I was next to be served, staff just looked at me like I was being rude.
Anyway, after 15 mins we gave up at the bar and our table was ready.
We shared nacho’s and a pretzel with cheese and mustard dips which was lovely. Our mains were fish and chips/cheese burger/steak frites which were fabulous. We all massively rated the food and service once we were seated.
The only other downside was the automatically added 10% gratuity.
We’d already agreed that we’d make a decision on a tip once the meal was complete (due to the poor start) but it was assumed that we’d pay it. I’m sure if we’d have mentioned it, the gratuity could have been amended. Are we heading in the direction of our American neighbours, as in tipping is assumed rather than based on service ?
I had lunch last week for my birthday with my 4 friends. We ate from the suggested 1,2 or 3 course menu. Lunch for me was good. I had the Italian stew which was served with a portion of rice. I was however disappointed that it was not served with the personal serving of individual vegetables we have had in the past. My friend was disappointed in her starter of beef. Which was completely covered over by a sauce. This did not look very inviting , rocket was added for a touch of colour but not much imagination was used. I hope the bring back the invidual vegetables soon. 😔
Can’t get more central in Melrose than the Townhouse. Convenient to all of the independent shops and starting point for walks. Parking is good both on-street and hotel carpark. A family owned hotel run with obvious pride. Smartly dressed staff, friendly and helpful. Superb breakfast (we’ll return for dinner.) Our room was spacious and stylish with a great view over the square and to the Eildon hills. Everywhere was immaculate. Can’t recommend enough.
This is a must visit experience if you’re in the area. A little remote but definitely worth the effort. Outstanding food, all four of us had different mains and each one exceptional in their own unique way.
The service was genuinely friendly and the atmosphere eclectic and warm. Visited on a Wednesday night and place was busy so recommend booking.
Given the standard of food, excellent value for money.
Familiegerund hotel. Erg verwelkomende, persoonlijke sfeer. Een adres om weer te keren.
This pub is truly a cornerstone of any visit to St. Andrews. You can not beat its location, especially the small patio, and the atmosphere is so golfer-friendly I can't imagine a more golf-centric pub anywhere in the world. A good selection of beers and OK, but not the best, service. Sadly, the food was terrible. My first order, the mac and cheese, was so bad I had to return it. I then asked for the chicken baguette. It was terrible too. Sadly, the menu does not have much traditional Scottish pub fare, which is what one might expect when you are 100 yards from the Old Course.
Lovely meal again. This restaurant never disappoints. Great food at very reasonable prices - served promptly by lovely staff. Good sized portions, lots of choices. In particular the Bistro Stir Fry with chicken & prawns was amazing! Also enjoyed was the homemade Lasagne, Chicken & Mushroom Stroganoff & massive battered haddock! Sublime Sticky toffee with lots of lovely sauce. Well worth a visit- highly recommend.

I loved my stay here recently. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the conservatory is fabulous for relaxing and having dinner, and the garden is pretty and peaceful. Staff were a pleasure to speak with. Thanks for a great stay.

To be known as a "Howffer" is a badge of honour in these parts.
This is a great pub, staff and Howffwers alike.
When it was the Market Bar, the live stocksmen men would enter by the back steps from the cattle market, and enjoy the ales of the day.
When you are enjoying your drink, imagine the live stocksmen emerging from where the gents toilet is now, drift off and think of the history, and that The Wee Howff has survived, while many pubs have gone, and many remain on life support.
