Stayed for one night and had a very enjoyable time. The bedroom was comfortable, the bathroom looked very new with an excellent shower. Had a couple of pints and dinner in the bar area which was great. Food was really very good. Had breakfast in the restaurant area overlooking the loch. The porridge was great. Overall very friendly staff. Would be happy to stay there again.

Stayed at this wonderful hotel as part of a group motorcycle tour of Scotland. Location is stunning with ample tarmac parking in-front of hotel. We were lucky to stay in one of the newly refurbished rooms and it was very tastefully decorated. Extremely friendly welcome, excellent bar, excellent staff and excellent dinner and breakfast. Everyone here works very hard to make this a gem of hotel. We were blessed with great weather and stunning views and sunset. Well done everyone!

Good location, friendly but very busy and the service was rather hit and miss. So was the food: grilled salmon a definite hit, but the sweet potato curry was very insipid. Looking over shoulders, I wished too late that I had chosen the fish and chips!

Chosen by our tour company, the hotel is beautifully positioned in a quiet spot overlooking the sea. Parking is in a car park in front of the hotel restricted to guests. First impressions were excellent and we were quickly checked in and directed to our large room with a sea view. While the decor was not to our taste, the room was large, well equipped and comfortable with a great sea view. The bathroom was large with a big shower and looked as though it had been recently refitted. The only slight downside was that the washbasin would soak you if you turned the single action tap on too fully, an error made by my wife; the high water pressure hits the bottom of the basin and directs it outwards into your lap. The staff were all extremely pleasant and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast were excellent and we ate here both nights. They have a specials board in addition to the standard menu and the food was great. The wine list was also good and they stock a range of reasonably priced, largely South African, house wines, in addition to a good range of others from around the World. The conservatory at the front of the hotel provides a warm place to sit and view the ocean after a day sightseeing.

Beautiful location on the coast, Clean, Quiet, Spacious and comfy apartment. The apartment was great with everything we needed. Our kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom and shower was the best I’ve ever seen. Beds were comfy and clean. Staff were very polite and accommodating, it made this stay feel personal and welcoming. Breakfast was beautiful, I enjoyed an Egg, Bacon and Sausage roll. The selection was huge I couldn’t ask for better. Lunch and Dinner was delicious, there was a good specials menu, which had a fine selection. Staff were quick and attentive! Overall would be back in a heartbeat, beautiful location. Beach was clean and scenic.

We just completed the NC500 and out of all of the hotels we stayed at this was by far the best. This is a modern and beautiful hotel. Our room had a small sitting area with desk and coffee/tea service that looked out over the bay. Absolutely exquisite. The wood interior and bed frame made this a very special room. The bathroom was modern and luxe and the bed was very comfortable. We cannot say enough good things about this place. Our only regret is that we stayed here only 1 night. We both could easily see coming back for a week long stay to relax and unwind. The whole hotel seemed to relaxed and peaceful. The hotel had beautiful sitting areas in the front. The restaurant was superb. The chef is excellent. Do NOT pass up eating here. There are other hotels in Gairloch, but you would be foolish to pass up the Myrtle Bank hotel.

From the moment we stepped into the Hotel after a long drive, staff were friendly and organised. Room was beautiful, clean with tasteful decoration and large bathroom, all newly refurbished. We booked dinner and this was well presented and promptly served, with generous tasty portions. Quality of sleep 5/5 comfortable bed. Nice little beach at hand for wild swimmers and some Otters to see that live locally. Breakfast menu offered lots of choice and all served in a dinning room over looking the sea. Only sorry we stayed for only one night. Thank you hospitality well done 👍

Gairloch is a lovely place. The Myrtle Hotel is well placed and with sea views. Our room was a decent size and with a seductive sea view. We found the restaurant friendly and truly excellent in its fare, perhaps especially - the breakfasts which were classy. It’s easy to take a walk, travel a little further to see Highland cattle, or venture by car to nearby treats such as what has to be about the world’s smallest distillery. This was a very good experience and it adds so much if staff are friendly and helpful. That was certainly so here. Well done.

This was our first time staying though have visited for drinks before. So fortunate to hit an unexpected good date weather-wise and see the famous sunset. Our room was in the annexe, it was well kitted out, traditional decor, not overly spacious but a great newly renovated bathroom that was spacious. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed our food. We did feel the room was slightly overpriced given other Scottish village hotels we've stayed at.

Highly recommend a visit if in Gairloch and you manage to get a table then eat, or if in bar then snacks are available. If doing the NC 500 then get out of your vans and spend some money on local places. We did and very happy to do so when you come across places like this. Support the locals. We tried this a couple of times. One as a small group of 3 (two adults and a child) and one as a larger group. First night was a busy Sunday dinner service so the service was a bit slow but it was busy so you can account for that. The food was fantastic - the Sea Bass and the special of Oatmeal crusted herring were faultless and we fed this back to the group and arranged a follow up meal later in the week. The second visit was memorable for different reasons. We were shown to our table and looked over the options on the menu. Two of the party ordered the duck, one serving wasn't edible as the fat was still raw and chewy with the orange sauce being warmed up marmalade and not appetising to look at. This was returned to the kitchen but no offer of a replacement and this was still charged onto the bill. The fish curry was tasty and good portion size but the poppadoms and rice were stale. Overall I don't want to be too harsh here as we did have a very enjoyable meal on one occasion. Staff were friendly enough but understandably busy. It's worth a try but maybe stick to the fish and other specials.

This hotel is one where I can imagine people returning year after year and accepts coach parties which ensured that the restaurant was doing good business on a Tuesday evening. The staff were friendly and efficient, the service was good and the food, whilst not outstanding, was tasty and generous. My husband’s main course of langoustines almost out-faced him with the 8 plump shellfish, whilst my sea bass, though not as daunting in quantity, was well cooked and nicely presented.

The hotel is pricey at £200 for a loch view double room. You are really paying for the location - on the NC500 and the lochside. The hotel itself clearly has had some investment e.g. lovely deck furniture outside, but there is a way to go in updating the overall feel of the place and the furniture/carpet in the rooms. That said, it was spotlessly clean, pleasant staff and good home cooked food in the restaurant at dinner.

I had pre booked our visit for my birthday dinner having previously been there on a past holiday. On arrival there were a couple being rudely spoken to by the female who I imagine was front of house. The couple left quite unhappy looking. We told the female our name and that we had a reservation for dinner. She assured us we didn’t, we had booked for the following night. I said no, I had booked this myself for my birthday to which she sarcastically said , it’s your birthday is it. To be honest I only admitted that it was to explain that I was hardly likely to get the date wrong. She asssured us that we there the wrong day, flicked the pages in her book, continued to be rude to us then said she would see what she could do. At that my 80 yr old Dad said don’t bother, we are not being treated like this. She stormed away and we left. I was so shocked I followed her to the bar, where she was almost shouting at me. I have never been spoken to the way she spoke to me in a restaurant before. The other member of staff at the bar just looked on, stared at me, and he never said a word. I would have imagined he would have tried to sort it all out, but not one word from him. I wanted an apology or a reason for her behaviour, but she still continued to be utterly rude. If that is the best staff that they come up with they are going to lose a lot of customers. I would never recommend this place. I don’t know their problem, I don’t want to know, but the customer service is beyond disgusting.

We are also very pleased with the good vegetarian choice that is on the menu. The crofter's pie is huge (!) and very tasty All the dishes we had were very much enjoyed except the vegetarian chilli which was a big disappointment - very bland indeed with little flavour - if it is described as chilli it needs to taste of chilli! Other than this blip we very much enjoyed our food and service.

We had a week touring the west coast, staying two nights in the Gairloch area. The first night we went to the local chippy. We would probably have done better to go again. This was the drabbest meal of our week. What follows comes from notes made on the night. The numbers are marks out of 10 - our own system.Fried squid with salad. Choice of sweet chilli or creamy tartar sauce. Squid ok.. Salad incredibly dull - no imagination or dressing. 6 overall.Haggis balls in whisky and mustard sauce. Dull salad 6Grilled haddock and new potatoes and boring salad. Haddock overdone. Very bland. 3 The menu says it is "simple", but simple can be fantastic. This wasn't.Seafood lasagne from specials. If this was yesterday’s leftovers (let’s be honest, it probably was) it could still have been interesting. Nothing interesting here. 3 Salad chosen instead of garlic bread or chips. What did we do??? The same salad. Just to be clear, we were served the same salad four times, between us. Handfuls of pre-cut lettuce and shredded bits chucked in a bowl without any dressing. Even a sachet of Heinz salad cream would have lifted the experience. Possibly our fault for choosing four items with salad, but we hadn't imagined such sheer lack of imagination.Wine with main courses: South African Sauv blanc pretty good £5.50 for 175ml Profiteroles - sharp crack from the outside of the choux, then softer. Good choc sauce, nice cream. Good. 8Ice creams - specials board cherry and clotted cream + salted caramel. Really, really good 9Service - a little drab to start with, with one waitress suitable to dull the spirits ina. funeral parlour. But other staff made up for that - things got better. Slow to take payment at the end.Atmosphere - a little bit Crossroads Motel. We had no view - those tables were reserved for residents - fair enough - except they were mainly empty for our entire meal. Verdict: dreadful meal, saved by some staff and excellent desserts. Do whatever you can to avoid.

We were staying in the hotel so chose to have dinner here too given the reviews. We started with the Cullen skink which was ok. It lacked in flavour but did the job. We then had the seafood lasagne and burger. The burger was dry with little seasoning, the chips also weren't great. The seafood lasagne wasn't good either. The fish tasted like they had been frozen, the bechamel sauce it should be rich with was dry and Blobby, and at parts it was very oily. we also had a side of the vegetable medley which was overcooked vegetables. I actually sent it back because the cauliflower came out with black mould on the florets and said I had been put off from eating the rest of the vegetables. To my amazement, the waitress asked me to show her exactly what was wrong and claimed that was normal. I disagreed and said I didn't want it she took the plate away and came back with the same plate but with the vegetables cut in half. She then asked me to look and see that the vegetables were fine in the middle. I was so shocked by how rude this was. I still said I wasn't eating them. After being put off from eating any more, we asked for the bill and were shocked to find that we were being charged for the vegetables. I said I didn't want to pay for them as I sent them back and the same waitress said that was my choice because I didn't want them when they were fine so I had to pay. It took 10 whole minutes of negotiating to get the stupid vegetables off the bill. I would like to add that the other staff were very friendly and nice.

My fiancé and I were in the area and popped in for some dinner around 8:30pm. The hotel entrance is a little dated but it’s nice enough. We were seated by a young waitress who promptly took our order. I ordered Cullen Skink which was nice after a little help with the seasoning. Our two burgers arrived and my fiancé commented on the smell of the chips the second the plate touched the table, they were dark in colour and smelt strongly of oil. The burgers themselves were rock solid and goodness knows what herbs they are adding to the patty along with i think a ton of onion (?). Whatever it was the result is a sour flavour which feels like it’s trying to be masked with herbs, not good. I ate the burger bun with cheese as I was STARVING after a 5 hour drive from Edinburgh and my fiancé had a nibble and gave up. We politely mentioned to the waitress that we didn’t enjoy our meal and asked for the bill which is when a gentleman who transpired to be the owner bowled over asking if everything was ok. We again politely reiterated that we didn’t enjoy the burger and felt the chips and onion rings were over cooked and possibly even in old oil, he then proceeded to argue with me that his burger patty’s were made fresh and he personally changed the oil himself this morning, not sure if arguing with a disappointed guest on the restaurant floor is what constitutes hospitality in this part of the world but I can tell you from almost 20 years working in the trade (including owning an American burger restaurant in Edinburgh for the last 5 years…) that it’s not. Said owner then proceeds to ask me what I want done about the burgers and I mention that whilst I’m more than happy to pay for the soup and the drinks as they were lovely, I’d rather not pay for the burgers to which he incredulously responds that we ‘hardly left any on the plate’, we later laughed as my fiancé describes my face at being essentially called a liar and being accused of trying to scam this man of a few quid for a couple of burgers (♂️ Why would we bother, when we were hungry?), I protest that I ate less than half a patty and my bun dipped in some ketchup as to stave off literal starvation and my fiancé ate a nibble of hers, neither of us went near the grease trap chips or onion rings.Said owner then stormed off and left one of his young waitresses to come back rather sheepishly with an amended bill. I note from other reviews that the owner has previous in bullying guests into paying for a meal they don’t enjoy and the ‘well you ate most of it’ angle seems to be his weapon of choice. Well not today as the burgers were removed and the apologetic waitress took payment (we made sure to tip, the girls are doing a nice job)A couple of bits of advice for the owner - ditch the nonsense in the burger pattys, get a local butcher to mince you a nice piece of Scottish Chuck steak, press your burgers in house and season with salt and pepper on the grill, let the meat do the talking, it’s not the 90’s, cheap burger meat masked with onion and herbs has been dead for a long time! Also, the place was busy and you’ve obviously got a successful business so have a little class when a guest doesn’t enjoy their experience, you can’t get it right every single time and if someone doesn’t enjoy their meal and is being genuine then apologise and comp it, be thankful that they visited and ask them to visit again to allow the opportunity to make amends, you’ll avoid reviews like this and the others that specifically mention your poor attitude towards customers. Lead by example, you have young staff working for you who need your support and guidance not be let to pick up the peices when you don’t have the courage to return to the table after a complaint. The local chippy does a smashing fish and chips which saved the day.

My partner and I both ordered the steak burgers and agreed it was dry, over seasoned, over cooked and the chips smelt very strongly of old oil which was immediately apparent. I’m not one to complain and was very apologetic about it but this was really bad I felt I had to say something as we couldn’t eat it. Owner handled this very shockingly. We kindly explained and said we were happy to pay for drinks and not the burgers as he asked how we wanted to handle it. He said we managed to eat half of it! He was so rude. He clearly isn’t used to criticism and certainly doesn’t know the right way to handle it in a polite manor. Didn’t even apologise. Horrible man, we left feeling embarrassed. Tipped the waitresses for their fab service. And my partner owns a burger restaurant in Edinburgh so Mr Owner count yourself lucky for living in such a small community- you wouldn’t thrive elsewhere.

Just back from a week in Gairloch. Due to the lockdown restrictions, Myrtle Bank opened again on 17th May.We had booked a table before we went on holiday. For starter I had cullen skink (delicious) and for the main - the special of langoustines in Garlic Butter; they were fantastic. It was quite busy for being early in the season so if going I would recommend you book a table. We enjoyed it so much we went back there for lunch the following day!The best meal we had in Gairloch and highly recommended

We really enjoyed our meal here. The cullen skink was full of fish and very tasty. We also enjoyed the macaroni cheese, very filling, but delicious. We watched the sun go down as we ate our meal. Would recommend, but book ahead.

We visited the Myrtle Bank for Dinner twice again this year, and again were not disappointed. We pre-booked over a week in advance for dinner on the evening we arrived in Gairloch, expecting a good meal. We were not disappointed.Very good range of food on offer for all tastes. No scrimping on portions, which is sometimes a disadvantage, as it is not easy to manage three courses in one sitting.Restaurant is spacious, so Social distancing of tables was well set out to accomodate guests. One way system through building and Covid signs up for guidance. All staffs in masks for your protection.I had Fillet Steak from the specials board, and I have to say, as I also experienced last year, they do know hoiw to cook a good steak. We returned for our last eveninmg meal here before we went home, and had an excellent experience again.Good food, reasonably priced, excellent service from hard working staff.

My plate of Langustines was very well presented and tasty into the bargain while my wife's Lasagne was top class. Great place to eat and watch the sun set.

We made a reservation as non residents and were very glad we did. The restaurant has wonderful views out to sea and the food was truly outstanding. It’s the measure of the place that not only were our meals delicious but we wanted also to eat the dishes being served to other customers! Excellent value for money and the waiting staff were friendly and efficient.

This hotel looks lovely from the outside, and the lady that served us drinks was welcoming. They weren't serving food yet because of the circumstances. The inside of the hotel is very dingy and the sink in the ladies toilet still had cigarette burns on it from when smoking was allowed I presume. I would have thought when it was closed it would have at least gotten a lick of paint. We had to give our details because of track and trace when we came in. When we left we were supposed to give a time when we were leaving but the lovely lady was gone and the man behind the bar said he didn't know what we were talking about.

Just visited here whilst staying in Gairloch. We rang up and booked a table for 19:30 but didn’t arrive while 8pm and the waitress was unsure if the chef had gone but luckily he hadn’t! We were grateful he didn’t decide to go home as this was the only place in Gairloch open! We ordered chicken and leek puff pastry pie with veg and scampi and chips. Portion sizes were huge! So tasty and fresh! Lovely service too, could not complain. They were even willing to swap veg/salad/potatoes. Definitely recommend if you like proper food!

We were delighted with our most recent visit to this restaurant and left with a smile on our faces. This place is definitely the place to go for lunch on a Sunday. The menu has something to suit everyone and the staff don’t mind changing a thing or two if you ask. This afternoon we had the roast beef with Yorkshire puddings and it was not a disappointment. The beef was very tender and the gravy was lovely. One of us had a sirloin steak which was cooked beautifully to order and we were pleased to have potatoes to accompany the dish even although chip were advertised on the menu. The steak and onion burger was equally as good served with chips, salad and relish.I highly recommend this restaurant if anyone is in Gairloch on a Sunday. Ideal for family, friends, couples or even if your on your own. Top marks to the Management of this restaurant for creating a lovely atmosphere and the kitchen staff for producing lovely food.

We stayed a night at the Myrtle Bank Hotel and it was a very pleasant experience. A warm, comfortable room, spotlessly clean and with a super shower. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was great to be right on the shoreline with a view across to Skye.Dinner was very good and the separate vegetarian menu was an additional source of pleasure for the veggie in our party. She was quite beside herself with joy at the excellent choice! Breakfast was similarly tasty, cooked to order and served on hot plates. We have booked to return to the Myrtle Bank Hotel in 2020. I’m really looking forward to it.

Dropped in when passing on a walk and were our first impression was very good so asked the friendly staff about booking a table with a sea view for the evening. The table was spot on and the staff, once again, could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The meal itself was fabulous; beautifully presented, tasty and cooked to perfection. We had the scallops then my wife had the venison and I had the cod loin - superb! Enjoying it with the sun setting over Skye made for an amazing evening.

A traditional, almost old fashioned, style of dining which was delightful. We were able to enjoy pre-dinner drinks looking out to the sea which was very pleasant. All of the dining tables had plenty of room around them, sea views and the wait staff were very attentive and helpful regarding menu choices. The food was excellent and also the wine choices. Would recommend but you need to book.

A warm welcome from friendly efficient staff. Food was excellent with the menu providing an excellent choice, also served local seafood on their daily specials. The homemade orange and ginger ice cream was very flavoursome, nice way to end a well prepared dinner.

I really enjoyed the Cullen skink but after monkfish curry main, which was also good, I unfortunately didn’t have room for dessert. Glad we booked because they were full by the time we arrived and were turning people away. The squid starter was nicely cooked and the haddock also generous portion and nicely cooked fresh vegetables.

We had had a drink in the Bar and thought it a lovely space. So we booked a table for dinner there the following evening. Unfortunately we were seated in the 'Restaurant'. A more soulless room would be hard to find. The view from the table was amazing but whoever thought that having a small radio playing in the corner would add atmosphere should be sacked. It was obviously an overflow room, as in order to see the Daily Specials, you had to go into the Bar 15m away and look at a chalkbord! Having said that, the food was really good and waiting staff very friendly, even after we told them what we thought of the room.

We have eaten here on several occasions on our recent visit to Gairloch. The restaurant has wonderful views out over the loch and there are some tables and seats outdoors on a very pleasant patio if you wish to have a drink outside before dinner (photo attached) Food is excellent - we have loved the vegetarian lasagne, vegetarian mac and cheese, scampi and fish. All superb. Staff are really friendly and service good. Overall this is one of Gairloch's best places to eat in our opinion.

Myrtle Bank is centrally located in Gairloch, with plenty of free parking and nice views across the bay from the restaurant. The menu offers a decent range of options (including daily specials), and the portion sizes are generous. The food I sampled was nicely cooked and presented, and represented good value for money - £25 bought me three courses and a half pint of lager, although with wine it would probably have been closer to £30. However, given those large portions, just a main course would suffice for many! The waiting staff were also very pleasant.

Neither good nor bad. The service was rather "confused". The meal was OK but not memorable, the price was average...the Old Mill down the road though was much better. In a competitive market this restaurant needs to do more than depend on its location and fabulous views.

We had had the Myrtle Bank recommended by a local lass who was working in the Applecross Inn. It's location by the sandy Gailroch shore on a bright summer midsummer evening made the experience all the more memorable. Though we hadn't booked we were early enough to be given a table. We both opted for Cullen Skink to start. It's the first time we'd had blitzed cullen skink - though this didn't affect the traditionally dominant smoked haddock flavour my wife found it affected her enjoyment of it. For me the important thing is that it tasted delicious. I had a cajun chicken breast with sweet potato chips, salad and chilli sauce which was similarly appetising though it was a bit dry and I had to ask for vinaigrette dressing for the salad. The young waiting staff were smart, courteous and their customer service ethic keenly honed. The range of choice on the menu, plus the specials, should ensure diners will find a choice of appealing options. Lovely evening.

We ate here and enjoyed the food and decent menu. However the meal was spoiled by very lacklustre service. It was slow and inattentive. I can put up with slow service especially when food is cooked fresh. However when no one checks in to see if you need a fresh drink or checks to see how the meal is. When it takes ages to take your desert order or 15 minutes to see that you have finished your meal and clear your plates. It’s a shame this neglect spoilt an other wise tasty well cooked meal.

I always feel badly for establishments like this. They have the "product" that is wanted, ie: Great food at a reasonable price. All they have to do is manage the customer service part. When wine and juice/soda glasses are nearing empty, a server always asks if they can provide more. Not once. Easily.....they could have gotten a larger alcohol bill from us, but they never asked. Water glasses never filled....food never questioned as to if it was ok. Servers were "nice" but fell short of the actual "service" part of the job. Ultimately the restaurant pays for this, which is unfortunate. We never got more drinks and were so thirsty from no offers of refills. Food took ages for simple things.....which we could completely understand if it was busy- but it was totally dead. 3 tables in the whole place for the first hour. It was a bit surreal. I would have almost guessed that the servers were also cooking the food.

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

Stopped for the night while doing the NC500 with my husband and 8 + 9 year old kids, one of the only places in Thurso that you can have a sit down meal! Absolutely delicious meal, got the chicken Ceylon roll as a starter and it came out piping hot and so fresh!! The flavours were absolutely amazing! My husband had the medium spice chicken Ceylon curry and said it was amazing, the flavours and spices were absolutely spot on! I had the mild beef Ceylon curry and it was equally as good! All cooked fresh to order and you can tell as it was piping hot and so fresh to taste! There is a children’s menu for the fussier eaters, my daughter had spaghetti and my son had a burger and there was no complaints from them! Our first time trying Sri Lanka food and won’t be our last thanks to this restaurant! Staff are delightful as well☺️
